A new monotypic genus, Bloszykiella africana gen. nov., sp. nov. (Mesostigmata: Uropodina: Uropodidae) is described on the basis of two females and one deutonymph found in soil samples from Tanzania. The new genus is unusual among Uropodina in having large strongly dentate chelicerae.

ABSTRACT Ludwig Doderlein was one of the few European ichthyol- ogists who visited Japan and collected fish specimens for taxonomic studies early in the Meiji period (1868-1912). Based on his collection during his visit to Japan (1879- 1881), Steindachner and Doderlein (1883) provided the descriptions of 37 species, including 6 new species and 2 new genera. In this publication, the authorship for all of these new taxa except Doderleinia and Doderleinia ori- entalis was clearly stated as Doderlein alone. Doderleinia orientalis, currently known as Doederleinia berycoides (Hilgendorf 1879), was described in this publication as a new species with an erection of the new genus Doderleinia, which should be spelled as Doederleinia (ICZN 1999:

Scorpaena canariensis (Sauvage, 1878), which has to date only been known from the holo- type, is redescribed on the basis of the holotype and three newly-collected specimens. In ad- dition, Pontinus leda Eschmeyer, 1969, which has to date only been known from the equator south to South Africa, is reported on the basis of three specimens collected from off Guinea- Bissau. The Guinea-Bissau specimens represent the first reliable record from the Northern Hemisphere and a range extension of approximately 3000 km from the previously northern- most record of the species. The previously recognized taxonomic characters of both species
