Germanic mythology offers one of the most ambiguous representations of the universe. Time has a special connotation as the mortality of the gods conditions their response to the challenges set by destiny before them. Much of their existence depends on the way they accomplish their quest to find the ultimate answer. In the Germanic myths time can be cosmic corresponding to the creation of the world or eschatological as the end of the universe is inevitable and certain. In between these two moments the gods need to discover the answer to the meaning of their lives and their place in the universe.

We present the case of a 32-year-old female who was admitted to the Neurology Clinic for occipital headache and severe cervical pain. Based on the first investigations (cerebral CT scan, cerebral MRI and cerebral angiography) the diagnose was intraventricular hemorrhage. One year later the patient was hospitalizad again for left cervical and left arm pain followed by motor déficit in the left arm and sensitive troubles in the left lower limb. Cervical MRI and spinal angiography revealed cervical intramedullary arteriovenous malformation (C7 – T1). The particular case points out on the importance of checking the spinal cord in cryptogenic subarachnoid hemorrhage.
There were gaps between guidelines and practice when surgery was the only treatment for aortic stenosis (AS).

The article wishes to present the evolutions registered through the Lisbon Treaty in the ESDP field and the constraints that involved in creating an European Union’s army. The first part of the article is about the development of the comunitarization of ESDP through the stipulations of the Lisbon Treaty and about what this policy exactly implies (organization, implication, missions) in comparison with NATO. In the second part of the article the reasons why an European Union’s army can not be created are identified. The reasons are external, internal, concerning the member states and the nature of the European Union as an international organization, and, also, there are historical reasons.

In the present research we aim to analyze the issue of informed consent, an ethical foundation in assessing the quality of medical services. Informed Consent (IC) "is the informed consent of the patient in connection with medical interventions that may have unpredictable consequences." (Cimpoeru, 2016). Therefore, obtaining this consent is made after informing the patient about the medical act to be performed, receiving all the information he needs to give his consent to the cause. The research is based on a questionnaire applied to a sample of 50 people from Dorohoi Municipal Hospital. This questionnaire contains questions about the application of IC, from the point of view of doctors, assistants and TESA. Within this research, we have tried to highlight the importance that these CIs attach to and how it is applied in practice.

In the first part of the paper a mathematical model regarding the evolution of corporal weight at broilers using energy-protein ratio is being determined 0,18 1,02 12,05 E G   P . Considering lysine’s contribution in broilers’ food the mathematical model determined is 0,52 1,08 2,43 1,27 E L G   P . From the model we observe that lysine influences the energyprotein ratio and corporal weight at broilers.

Depending on four controlable variables used in broilers nutrition: E (energy), P (protein), L(lysine), M (metyonine+ cystine) have been deduced mathematically multiple curvilinear regressions showing the evolution of corporal mass during entire growth period. In this paper, using these regressions, we determine the average weekly gain of corporal mass. We test using dispersional analysis if there are significant differences between N.R.C. 1994 and the values given by regressions. Using correlation report we decide which of these regressions is optimum.

"We talk about groups as doing something, we talk as if groups have agency. Is our talk legitimate? Are there group agents? Is there something like group agency? In this paper, I discuss two ontological frameworks concerning existence questions: the Quinean framework and the Thomasson-Carnap framework. I apply them to the problem of group agency. I review the Quinean-oriented literature debating the existence of group agents and its methodological background. I argue, via Thomasson’s easy approach to ontology, that deflationism can simplify the debate surrounding group agents. Thus, I argue for a Thomasson-Carnap framework and show that it is better suited to answer the particular question whether there are group agents. More specifically, I argue for a non-reductive simple realist view on group agents, i.e. I argue for the truth of “There are group agents,” via analytic entailments, by truths about the actions and deeds of groups. Keywords: Analytic Entailments, Deflationism, Group agency, Group agents, Simple Realism "

Drought directly and indirectly affects human society in a number of ways. In many regions of the world climate change will exasperate the effects of droughts, affect national economies more intensely. The main aim of this article was to catalogue and analyze the drought impacts in the 11 Central and South Eastern European states located in the Danube river basin. The identification of dry episodes was based on information from publicly available sources, namely, newspaper and journal articles that reported drought impacts. Information on drought impact occurrences was classified into one of five defined categories in which the drought impact report was most clearly manifested (i.e., agriculture, forestry, soil systems, wildfires and hydrology). In terms of the spatial distribution of drought impacts, individual recorded events were analyzed at the level of EU NUTS regions (or their equivalent in non‑EU countries). The analysis highlights country‑specific vulnerability to drought. F...

Ledderhose disease or plantar fibromatosis is a rare hyperproliferative disorder of the plantar aponeurosis, clinically characterized by nodules situated especially on the medial border of the foot. It is histopathologically associated with Dupuytren's disease. This disease has some risk factors, like old age, alcohol or nicotine abuse, liver dysfunction, trauma or exposure to vibrations and autoimmune disorders, but the exact etiology is still unknown. Even though it is benign, the local manifestations can be aggressive, leading to debilitating deformities and contractures of the toes. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are used to confirm the diagnosis and to eliminate other disorders. Whenever is possible, the conservative therapies are recommended. Having a high recurrence, Ledderhose disease can be hard to treat, needing multiple surgical interventions. This paper aims to cover all the important aspects of this disease for daily medical practice, from history to clin...

Refractoriness to induction chemotherapy and relapse after achievement of remission are the main obstacles to cure in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). After standard induction chemotherapy, patients are assigned to different post-remission strategies on the basis of cytogenetic and molecular abnormalities that broadly define adverse, intermediate and favourable risk categories. However, some patients do not respond to induction therapy and another subset will eventually relapse despite the lack of adverse risk factors. There is an urgent need for better biomarkers to identify these high-risk patients before starting induction chemotherapy, to enable testing of alternative induction strategies in clinical trials. The high rate of relapse in AML has been attributed to the persistence of leukaemia stem cells (LSCs), which possess a number of stem cell properties, including quiescence, that are linked to therapy resistance. Here, to develop predictive and/or prognostic biomarkers related ...

Industries such as aviation, hospitality, and package tours often face both individual and batch bookings, requiring one unit and multiple units of capacity, respectively. Using bid prices is a common practice in accepting or rejecting an incoming booking (or equivalently, deciding which price bucket to offer to the incoming bookings at a given time). Most of the literature and existing applications for making accept/reject decisions model the arrival stream as individual bookings. In this paper, we propose an effective approach to determine bid prices when there is a mixed demand pattern with individual and batch bookings. We propose decomposing the demand into “small” and “large” bookings, using dynamic programming for large bookings, and a fast, high-quality approximation for small bookings. We present an application of our approach in the air cargo industry, where cargo is often separated into two categories, namely, mail and packages (small cargo) and freight (large cargo). To ...

Most airlines overbook their actual capacity (for both passengers and cargo) because part of the booked demand often does not show up at the flight departure. A key element of overbooking is a model that accurately predicts the show-up rate of the current bookings. Given the increasing importance of cargo within their business, most major airlines now scrutinize estimates of show-up rates for cargo bookings. The current practice is to apply the same methodology to the cargo sector as in the passenger business. We investigate the suitability of the current practice, and based on the results, we propose an alternate show-up-rate estimator for cargo and demonstrate its benefits. Tested on real-world data from a major airline as well as on simulated data, the study shows that improved estimation of the show-up rate can improve profits and customer service.

One of the methods most commonly used for learning and classification is using decision trees. The greatest advantages that decision trees offer is that, unlike classical trees, they provide a support for handling uncertain data sets. The paper introduces a new algorithm for building fuzzy decision trees and also offers some comparative results, by taking into account other methods. We will present a general overview of the fuzzy decision trees and focus afterwards on the newly introduced algorithm, pointing out that it can be a very useful tool in processing fuzzy data sets by offering good comparative results.
