The growth parameters, mortality rates and exploitation population dynamic parameters and exploitation rate of Psettodes erumei were assessed between July 2010 to June 2011 using length frequency analysis. The data were collected from landing sites of Jask, Bandar Abass, Kong and Qeshm Hormozgan province waters. Using total weight (W) and total length (TL) data, the length- weight relationship of this fish species was described as W=00037/L33652/ pertaining to alometric growth. Asymptotic length (L∞) = 74.55 cm, coefficient growth (k)= 0.23 year-1, t0 = - 0.61, longevity (tmax)= 12.43 years and the growth performance index (Φ')= 3.10 were estimated through the ELEFAN I routine and other modules from the FISAT program. Total mortality (Z), natural mortality (M), and fishing mortality (F) were then calculated as 1.2 year-1, 0.51 year-1, 0.69 year-1 respectively. Although, the estimated exploitation ratio (E= 0.57) was well fitted with the optimum level, careful examination of expl...

Since the 1990s, anthropogenic activities have been the major direct or indirect threats to the structural and functional organization of the unique ecosystem of the Caspian Sea (CS). This study attempts to investigate the relationships between fish community structure and environmental parameters and to analyze the Abundance Biomass Comparison (ABC) in the CS. The input data, including catch data by species and environmental parameters, were collected from 1996 to 2017. Of the 13 bony fish species identified, only two species Rutilus kutum and Chelon aurata accounted for 47.14% and 62.65%, and 40.80% and 29.34% of CPUE and NPUE, respectively. DisTLM revealed that five environmental variables showed a significant linear relationship with the NPUE resemblance matrix. Based on the AIC criteria, the combination of year, precipitation, SST_Apr, SSL, SST, GTA, Iranian rivers, and Volga discharges explain 80.3% of the total variability. Based on the ABC curves and W statistics, it was con...

Cheimerius nufar is widespread in the Western Indian Ocean and an important food fish throughout its
distribution. In South Africa, commercial CPUE remained stable from 1985 to 2000, with a notable
increase following management intervention. This species exhibits life history characteristics that
increase its vulnerability to overfishing, including longevity, large body size and slow growth. In addition,
it may be overexploited in some heavily fished areas such as southern Mozambique, in the Arabian Sea,
and in Kuwait and Bahrain; therefore, C. nufar should be carefully monitored and national stock
assessments undertaken. Cheimerius nufar is widely distributed, generally abundant and, in the
southern part of its range, occurs in several marine protected areas; however, given that this species has
experienced localized declines, exhibits intrinsic characteristics that exacerbate its vulnerability to
overfishing, and that sufficient data on abundance of this species are lacking, C. nufar is listed Data
Deficient.

Received: 29 September, 2014 Accepted: 11 November, 2014 Published: 20 December, 2014 Population dynamic parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were estimated from April 2011 to March 2012 in the Shadegan Wetland. 049 specimens were collected from five stations namely Mahshar, Rogbe, Khorosy, Salmane and Ateish in the Shadegan Wetland in Khuzestan province (Iran). Population dynamic parameters were calculated for C. carpio as below, L∞: 537 (mm); K: 0.36 (yr ); t0: -0.20, Ф’: 3.01. The estimated value of total mortality, natural mortality and fishing mortality were Z: 1.44, M: 0.66, F: 0.78 respectively. Relative yield per recruitment (Y'/R):0.02, relative biomass per recruitment, (B'/R):0.3; Exploitation ratio maximum sustainable yield, Emax: 0.43; precautionary average target (Fopt=0.51 yr ) and limit (Flimit=0.67 yr ) biological reference points for this stock was calculated. The results showed exploitation ratio of C. carpio is more than optimum level and no increase in fishing effort should be made in the area. © 2014 PSCI Publisher All rights reserved.

One of the mainly popular consumed colloid protein materials in pharmaceutics, medical, food and military industries is Gelatin. Especially from warm-water fish gelatin report posses similar characteristics to mammal’s gelatin .Yellow fin tuna (Thunnus albacares) gelatin skin, lots of waste in form of skin and bone of the fish are produced every day. Analysis factors were extracted alkaline gelatin from skin, physiochemical and rheological test (amino acid composition, SDS- page electrophoreses, FTIR (Fourier transform infrared), moisture content, pH, setting point and setting time, melting point and melting time, color and gelatin yield).  In contrast cool water fish gelatin, yellowfin tuna had higher gelatin content (Proline and Hydroxyproline) than mammalian gelatin content. SDS-electrophoresis for yellow fin gelatin showed protein band (α, β, γ) same as mammalian protein band. FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) had the same spectra for both of them. Factors were pH (6.1), Moistur...

The carangid fishes are one of economically important constituent of the demersal fisheries in the tropical and subtropical waters. The population structure and growth of the longnose trevally, Carangoides chrysophrys (Cuvier, 1833) were investigated using length-frequency data collected during March 2016 to February 2017 from the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea coasts of Iran. A total of 783 fishes were collected, 395 males (50.45%, 25 to 79 cm total length, TL) and 388 females (49.55%, 25 to 81 cm TL) with an overall sex ratio of 1:0.98, not significantly different from the expected 1:1 proportion. Comparison of total length and weight (W) showed significant differences between months of the year. The von Bertalanffy curve fit to the data showed a TL∞ equal to 83.80, k = 0.40 and t0 = -0.50 for males and a TL∞ equal to 84.25 cm, k = 0.34 yr-1 and t0 = -0.43 years for females. The life span estimated in this study was 7 years for males and 8 for females. Eight and nine modal lengths were...

In this study, the feeding habits and reproductive behavior of narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, Scomberomorus commerson , in the northern Persian Gulf during five months from October 2011 to December 2012 have been investigated. Specimens were purchased from the fishermen at several landing sites. Feeding and nutrition results showed that sardines are the major prey items of S. commerson . Secondary prey species included ponyfish, halfbeak and Indian mackerel fishes. Mature females (Stages III, IV) were mostly observed between April to July. By July, most of the studied fishes were in recovery or spent stages (Stages IV, V) indicating the end of the spawning season. The result of gonado-somatic index (GSI) study in 184 male and female specimens indicated the highest reproductive activity from April to July with the peak in July. The total sex ratio of 69 males and 115 females was 0.6:1 and it was not significantly different during study periods except autumn season. The minimum and m...

Monthly samples of Acanthopagrus latus (Hottuyn, 1782) were used to determine (1) feeding habits and (2) reproduction characteristics of the species in relation to its size, spawning season and sex in the Northern part of the Persian Gulf from January to December 2013. The smaller length classes of all samples were dominated by male fish. All gonads examined, were ovotestis during the spawning period from February till May. Male and female ovotestes were dimorphic in structure which represented a transitional stage in a protandrous sex change. Length at first sexual maturity of female A. latus was 24.40 cm. A. latus fed predominantly on bivalves, gastropods, cephalopods, stomatopods, fish and decapods which showed changes according to the season and body size. According to our results, it appears that A. latus feeds throughout the year; the highest value of gastrosomatic index (GaSI) for both sexes was recorded in February, which was significantly different from that in other months...
