This article assesses the impact of Europeanization on the minority protection policies in Turkey. The diffusion of European norms into European Union and the declaration of the Copenhagen Criteria in 1993 marked the respect for minority rights as a condition for EU membership, which is defined as part of the “acquis communitaire” of the European Union.[1] In this paper, I ask, “which domestic factors lead to the Europeanization of minority policies” to analyze the impact of Europeanization on the minority policies in Turkey. Utilizing the data from European Union official documents and reports from the year of official candidacy to accession, I explore the influence of “the position governments”, the “veto players” and “mobilization of ethnic minorities” on the Europeanization process of minority protection rights in Turkey.

The purpose of this article is to address the impact of political indicators on the minimum wage adjustment policies in 23 OECD countries. Adopting a multi-theory approach, we aim to answer the question if “minimum wage setting mechanism, institutionalized schedule of minimum wage adjustment, unionization rate, party ideology of the governments, and social welfare expenditures have impact on the minimum wages adjustment policies”? The findings show that indicators such as institutionalized schedule of minimum wage adjustment, unionization rate and social welfare expenditures have significant impact on the ‘real minimum wage adjustment’ in the selected cases.

This book aims to address these questions with historically-grounded, theoretically-informed, and conceptually-relevant scholarship that prioritizes comparative politics over international relations. In a nutshell, this project seeks to explore the Kurdish World in the Middle East within its own debates, conflicts, and interests. Overall, contribute to these debates by exploring key questions in novel ways, by focusing on comparative methodology that serve both to expand the scope of scientific inquiry and put into more solid understanding.

The concept of state-building has acquired political, economic, and social dimensions, all of which are required to explain the state-building patterns in the Middle East. This chapter will examine some of the key theories of state-building and how certain theories have been applied to the Middle East and Iraq. I will then consider how these thematic areas relate to the core focus of the analysis: the state-building efforts in Iraqi Kurdistan. I will concentrate on the sociopolitical factors and, in particular, the role of the Turkoman people in this process. The northern part of Iraq, which is known as Iraqi Kurdistan, is a region rich in ethnoreligious diversity. However, the role of the Kurds in state-building, for example, has been well researched. The Turkomans are the third-largest ethnic group in Iraq; yet, we know relatively little about their role in constructing a successful Iraqi Kurdistan. This chapter aims to take a closer look at this group as their participation is vi...
