Conservation conflicts arise for basically ecological, economic, social and safety related reasons. There may occasionally be contradictions between people’s desire to benefit from nature and conservation objectives. National parks in Turkey are run to a very strict policy. Mainly as a result of problems arising from this policy, local people may experience different problems, sometimes these escalate into a conflict between authorities and local people living around the national parks. In this study the contradictions between national, regional and local policies, objectives and strategies relating to nature conservation are evaluated alongside conservation and management plans in the case of Küre Mountains National Park (KMNP) in Turkey.

Agrarian landscapes are indispensable areas in terms of sustainability of cities due to their ecological, economic and social values. Thus, identifying agrarian landscape character and proposing agrarian landscape corridors is in demand. The purpose of the study is to investigate the agrarian landscape character types and to establish landscape corridors based on landscape character analysis in Bartin city. Different types of agricultural areas in agrarian landscapes will be classified by object based classification of high resolution satellite images. Secondly, obtained data from classification will be evaluated in GIS with spatial analyst and the structure of agrarian landscape and agrarian landscape corridors will be pointed out. The context of analysis, action plan and planning and land management steps s will be developed.

This study aims to evaluate optimum planning strategies for Kastamonu-Bartın Kure Mountains National Park (KDMP). Strategies have been selected that strategies highlighted in the protected areas and activities completed in KDMP. These strategies are strict conservation, conservation-using and, using. In determining the optimum of these strategies Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), one of the multi-criteria decision making technique, was used. To determine optimum strategy in AHP, basin and sub-citeria have been described. In this study, Factors related to natural, cultural and land use data of KDMP is classified as basin-criteria. Sub-criteria of basin criteria were taken into consideration field observations. The criteria were evaluated according to AHP technique and the weighted scores these strategies that stand out in the planning of the national park were obtained. It is specified that according to the identified weighted scores in strategies, strict conservation has the highe...

Landscape diversity and ecological significance of diversity are discussed in this paper. Landscape diversity is referred composition, structure and function of landscape elements. Landscape composition and landscape structure refers not only to number of different patch types, patch size, and patch shape within a landscape mosaic, but also to the spatial arrangement of different patch types and the connectivity and connectedness of these patches. Landscape diversity is composed of patch diversity, landscape type diversity and pattern diversity. This study presents backgrounds of land use and landscape diversity on protected areas within the context of " patch diversity " in Turkey. The aim of this study is to investigate the landscape fragmentation in the case study of the Kastamonu-Bartın Küre Mountains National Park (KMNP).

One of the biggest problems, which emerge with the gaining momentum of urbanization, is the loss of identity of cities. New developed areas put pressure on traditional texture and turning them to the irregular areas. In Turkey, this alteration has been come to a common problem of cities that have historical value. It has been seen that new development have the same type of construction and has no respect to city identity. In recent years, the City of Bartın where urbanization has been increased, is in the process of losing its traditional texture. When architecture samples have been started decreasing, unplanned and carelessly done buildings have been started to be dominant on urban texture. In this study, the interaction between new settlement and traditional settlement has been examined; social, cultural and physical typology analyses have been done. The results of analysis compared with contemporary needs, development of plan decisions that reflect identity traditional texture ha...
