There has been a revival in street art in Ankara throughout the 2000s where we can witness a group of art collectives/activists turning the city into a privileged site of protest and resistance with their works ranging from stencils, cut-outs and graffititoinstallations and ready-mades. We suggest to conceive of this revival in terms of (1) protesting the use of urban publics pace as an instrument in pursuing a politics of revenge, (2) contesting the commodification of the city for the benefits of construction or advertising industries, (3) seeking for the alternative media of expression in a political milieu in which the channels of discourse are gradually being obstructed.Gezi protests in 2013 were a landmark in terms of public visibility of street art. The prevalence of “sexual-political scandals” in Turkish political life have increasingly become widespread in recent years. In this research, I specifically focus on the media coverage of two distinct examples of this phenomenon which had dramatic effect on the general election in 2011. The study aims at questioning the role of both traditional and new media outlets in making of scandals and also attempts to understand how media professionals justify their concern on politicians’ intimate relations in terms of journalistic responsibility and practical norms. Although the content of all news stories, editorials and commentaries selected from nine leading national newspapers as well as news sites and blogs involved in the making of scandals examined in the research, I portray here only some main findings and remarks. The paper concludes by underlying the argument that journalism ethics should no longer be considered in Turkey as an isolated, intrinsic phenomenon solely concerned with...

Anahtar Sozcukler: gazetecilik, elestirel tarihyazimi, profesyonellesme, objektiflik, depolitizasyon Abstract This paper delves into the historical conditions behind the emergence of journalism as a professional and modern practice. It offers a theoretical debate on the conditions of journalism by tracing back various social, economic and discursive formations of British and American journalistic traditions from 16th to the mid-20th centuries. In doing so, it aims at developing a critical historiography for journalism by particularly focusing on issues of class struggle, social control and de-politicisation which are deliberately abandoned in the liberal accounts. By challenging approaches celebrating “professional journalism” as a democratic triumph over the displacement of earlier forms of revolutionary and partisan press, this paper discloses the ideological implications and caveats of the liberal narrative of the history of journalism. Keywords: journalism, critical historiography, professionalism, objectivity, depoliticisation

This study explores the syllabi used at communication faculties/departments in
Turkey with the goal of examining how media ethics is taught at the undergraduate
level. Since 1990s, we have witnessed fundamental changes in the media
landscape and the proliferation of communication faculties in Turkey. Despite
these changes, curriculum planning involving ethics has received little attention
within communication studies. Faculties have tended to orient themselves too
much toward the profession and too little toward the academy. We assume that this trend overemphasizes the realities of the market while ignoring moral reasoning through the role of profession in a democratic political system. Today, the media profession suffers from ownership concentration and politicization. Turkey has a poor record on press freedom mainly because of the methods used by the government to pressure and control media outlets and journalists. Under these circumstances, exploring the ways of seeing ethics in media education seems more crucial to us. To assess the current scenery of media ethics education in Turkey, syllabi of ethics courses from various faculties were collected to be analysed primarily for their subject content, but some other issues were considered as well, such as course descriptions,
objectives, assessment techniques, and teaching methods.

Fake News in Social Media and Syrian Refugee Crisis in the Post-truth Era
In this paper, we explore recent controversies on fake news and identify the circumstances by which the problem of fake news becomes current again. The status of truth in the ecology of news today is at the center of the discussion of fake news. Therefore, we decided to approach the problem in terms of social media reporting, user-generated contents, and post-truth politics. It is quite critical for us that the right populist movements turn false news into a political tactic to address the feelings and beliefs of citizens. In addition, we are trying to revise following questions: Which type of news would be rather considered as fake, how it is possible for fake news to spread so fast on social media and what types of fake news are more common. The last section of the article will be used to approach fake news about Syrian refugees in Turkey from a methodological perspective of multimodal textual analysis, in order to respond the ways in which discriminatory and hateful speeches propagate and legitimize so easily. As a conclusion , we suggest dealing with the fake news as a crucial component of political struggle over social reality instead of seeing the issue only regarding the media users' critical awareness.
