Η δυσκολία που διαπιστώνεται στο σύγχρονο άνθρωπο να κατανοήσει το περιεχόμενο των όσων ψάλλονται στους ιερούς -και όχι μόνο- ναούς, αλλά και η αδυναμία των ιερουργούντων και διακονούντων τα Ιερά Μυστήρια αφ' ενός να υποψιαστούν τα λεκτικά δάνεια, τη δημιουργική σχέση και εξάρτηση μεταξύ της θύραθεν και της εκκλησιαστικής ορολογίας και Γραμματείας και αφ' ετέρου να κατανοήσουν τη σημασία των όσων σημειώνονται στα τροπάρια, οδήγησαν στη δημιουργία μιας σειράς με τον τίτλο: "Ερμηνευτικά Υπομνήματα Ορθοδόξου Υμνογραφίας", της οποίας το ανά χείρας πόνημα αποτελεί τον πρώτο τόμο. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι θα καταχωρούνται σε αυτήν προσεγγίσεις ερμηνευτικού χαρακτήρα επιλεγμένων ύμνων, καθώς επίσης και άλλα κείμενα που θα κινούνται προς την κατεύθυνση αυτή ή θα συμβάλλουν στην περαιτέρω κατανόηση του περιεχομένου τους.
Ο παρών πρώτος τόμος προσεγγίζει ένα προσφιλές -πλην ελάχιστα γνωστό, σε όλο το εύρος του- θέμα, αυτό της χρήσης και της σημασίας του όρου "πόκος" στην Υμνογραφία της Ελληνορθόδοξου Εκκλησίας. Στο πλαίσιο του παρόντος πονήματος διερευνούμε την ετυμολογία του όρου "πόκος", τις διαπλαστικές πηγές του, τη χρήση του σε τροπάρια των Λειτουργικών βιβλίων της Εκκλησίας μας. Προσεγγίζουμε, επίσης ερμηνευτικά, ύμνους στους οποίους καταχωρίζεται ο συγκεκριμένος όρος.

The terms “hedone” and “odyne” are freely used in the Menologion of Symeon “the Metaphrast”, in order to cover all the dimensions of Christian, Social and Spiritual life. This fact verifies the theory that Synaxaria play an important role in our knowledge and understanding of the religious and social life, during the era of the Saints.
The terms «hedone» or «odyne», presented in the Saints” Lives, cannot be determined so clearly, as it seems to be from the first sight. This is the reason which led me to decide to analyze them in this book by examining Symeon” s the Metaphrast Hagiographical texts.

Approaching the religious and cultural treasures and heritage of the people of the Mediterranean and the Balkans, is always interesting, as it is a multidimensional issue which contributes to the understanding of their thought and mentality. That is getting more and more interesting when somebody tries to examine the relation between the Saints’ Relics and their heritage. Our intention is to reveal this dimension through this book, as it, has been ignored until today.
As a base and source of my research, I have chosen to approach the Hagiographical supplements, of the twelve – volume History of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem of the Patriarch of Jerusalem Dositheus († 1707).

Υπό τον τίτλο "Αγιολογικά και Υμνολογικά Μελετήματα", εγκαινιάζεται μια σειρά που θα περιλαμβάνει μελέτες και κείμενα σχετικά με τους αγίους• κατηγοριοποιήσεις αυτών, το βίο τους ή επιμέρους πτυχές του περιεχομένου του, καθώς και μελέτες που σχετίζονται με την υμνογραφική παραγωγή προς τιμήν τους, εφόσον η Υμνογραφία και η Υμνολογία συνδέονται άμεσα με την Αγιολογία. Αξίζει πάντως να σημειωθεί ότι, μολονότι οι μελέτες θα μπορούσαν να θεωρηθούν ότι εντάσσονται στο τμήμα της λεγόμενης "επιστημονικής" Αγιολογίας, εν τούτοις δεν εγκλωβίζονται στη εμφατική μονομέρεια που διακρίνει ανάλογες μελέτες του Θεολογικού επιστητού στη Δυτική Χριστιανοσύνη, στο Ρωμαιοκαθολικισμό ειδικότερα.
Απώτερος στόχος του εγχειρήματος είναι η εξοικείωση του αναγνώστη με τμήμα του Αγιολογικού και Υμνογραφικού θησαυρού της ορθόδοξης παράδοσης, η πληροφόρηση του για άγνωστες - πλην εξαιρετικά ενδιαφέρουσες - πτυχές και θέματα που σχετίζονται με το εν λόγω αντικείμενο. [...]

This study aims to approach and examine the existence of different categories of criminality and victimization in the Lives of the Saints. The goal is to focus on the "crimes against the person" (homicide, rape, mass murder, etc.), that are not connected to martyrdom. Additionally, the crimes "against property", "against sexual freedom", the "organized crimes", the "White collar crimes", the "victimless crimes" and the "ritual - religious crimes", that are recorded in hagiographical Texts, will also constitute study subjects of this project. The present research focuses on the victims and consequences of such crimes in the daily life of the Saints.
Several examples are also going to be presented and examined from the viewpoint of both Criminological Psychology and Theology, as there are important differentiations between the two sciences.
Criminological Psychology claims that the consequences of some specific cases of crimes can be predicted based on the reactions of the victims. Consequently, this idea will have to be applied during the examination of the Saints of the Church, since it could provide a different perspective on their thought processes and life.

This paper aims to approach the issue of sanctity, as well as some cases of saints that are recorded in the poems of contemporary greek "unconventional" – due to their homosexuality – poets: constantine p. Cavafy (1863-1933) and dinos christianopoulos (1931- ).
Both cavafy and christianopoulos mention saints and several aspects of their lives in their poems for different reasons. The questions arising from the study of their poetry are the following: in which poems and why are the saints included? Under which criteria were these specific saints selected? What is the objective or the message they wish to communicate to the readers of their work?

Το παρόν βιβλίο, δομημένο σε έξι επιμέρους μελέτες, εξετάζει αρχικά τη θέση της ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας απέναντι στην καύση των νεκρών, μελετά την  καύση των σωμάτων των μαρτύρων και των νεομαρτύρων στα αγιολογικά κείμενα, καθώς και αποφάσεις της νεώτερης ελλαδικής Ιεραρχίας. Ερευνά την έννοια της σωματικής αυτοδιαχείρισης στην ορθόδοξη παράδοση, τον συσχετισμό κλωνοποίησης – ευθανασίας – καύσης νεκρών στα όρια κάποιων ακραίων ζητημάτων που θέτει η νεωτερική κοινωνία και παρουσιάζει, τέλος, την ελληνική θεολογική βιβλιογραφία, για το θέμα αυτό, κατά τον εικοστό αιώνα.
        Μικρή αλλά περιεκτική μελέτη, χωρίς να αναπτύσσει τα θέματά της εξαντλητικά, παρέχει αναγκαίες πληροφορίες και περιεκτικές νύξεις για περαιτέρω μελέτη και έρευνα.

THE ACOLOUTHIA OF THE HOLY GREAT MARTYR IRENE ACCORDING TO THE CODEX GREAT LAVRA H-155. From Christians' Persecutions to "Daskalogiannis Revolution" (1770)

The Acolouthia of the Holy Great Martyr Irene according to the codex Great Lavra H-155 of the Mount Athos, is important for both Hymnographical and Hagiographical reasons.
The importance is related to the unknown post- Byzantine hymnographer and St. Irene's biographer, ex- hegoumenos Gennadios of Crete, as well as the most ancient full Acolouthia of the Great Martyr Irene, which is dated in 1774. 
Additionally, the Life of St. Irene in the codex Great Lavra H-155 is also important not only in regard to the hagiographical information which is given in it, but also about the historical, multi-cultural, and moral elements associated with the author's era. Needless to say that the biographer ex-hegumen's Gennadios of Crete tried to encourage his readers to face up their daily difficulties against the conqueror, to keep the spirit of the hope alive, by hiding "Daskalogiannis 's  Revolution" (1770) against the Turks,  in St. Irene's Hagiography (!).

It is important to note that the Metaphrastic Menologion is not only a Hagiographical text related to Religion, but also an informative manual for the social life, cultural customs and Linguistic issues of the era. The paper focuses on the linguistic dimension, the rare words as well as the proverbs which are mentioned in it. The majority of relevant past papers try to find the intertextuality between the Metaphrastic Menologion and other hagiographical texts which are considered to be chronologically close. But only few emphasize on the case that some phrases and words were taken from texts both ecclesiastical and of ancient Greek literature, from a long time ago. This paper focuses on Aesop's selected "Myths" of Ancient Greek Literature (first collection from around the 4thcentury B.C.), the precept which they offer, by examining them alongside selected Hagiographic and Ascetic texts of the Christian era. Common meanings, selected precepts and indicative examples, are highlighted through this parallel reading, which can be used in the educational process.

Στο παρόν βιβλίο επιχειρείται η αποκωδικοποίηση των θέσεων του αοιδίμου Αρχιεπισκόπου Αυστραλίας Στυλιανού Χαρκιανάκη († 2019), ως προς τη διαχείριση του πένθους του θανάτου, μέσα από τις σχεδόν πενήντα ποιητικές συλλογές του.
Ο θάνατος και το πένθος στην ποίηση του Αυστραλίας Στυλιανού είναι άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένα με την απώλεια και το χωρισμό εν γένει, την αποξένωση και τη λησμοσύνη και δεν περιορίζονται μόνο στη βιολογική διάσταση.
Το πένθος εντάσσεται από τον μακαριστό Πρωθιεράρχη  στην πνευματική πορεία των πιστών και η διαχείρισή του επιτυγχάνεται μέσα από τη θεώρηση του θανάτου στην προοπτική της Αναστάσεως του Κυρίου, τη διαρκή "μνήμη" και "μελέτη" του θανάτου, τη Λατρευτική πράξη και προσευχητική διάθεση του χριστιανού, τις φροντίδες προς τους κεκοιμημένους, την εξατομικευμένη παρέμβαση προς τους πενθούντες, από μέρους του κληρικού.

Στο βιβλίο αυτό γίνεται αναφορά στην γένεση και εξέλιξη της Υμνογραφίας της Εκκλησίας, στους μελωδούς και υμνογράφους, στους υμνογράφους (κληρικούς και λαϊκούς) των νεοτέρων χρόνων. Επιπροσθέτως γίνεται αναφορά στην υμνογραφική ορολογία, καθώς επίσης επιλεγμένες πτυχές της Θεολογίας των Ύμνων της Εκκλησίας.

This book focuses on different aspects of the Hymnography of the Greek–Orthodox Church, on the following four topics:
a. The terms “apatôr” (fatherless) and “amêtôr” (motherless).
b. The terms “light” and “illumination”.
c. The term “pokos” (fleece).
d. The term “broadsword”.
At the end of this book is included a vocabulary of terms occurred in Hymnographical texts of the Orthodox Church.

This book consists of 5 texts of Emmanouil Doundoulakis about the neighbor in the poetry of the Archbishop of Australia Stylianos Kharkianakis and the Archbishop's personality. There are also selected poems of Archbishop Stylianos, between texts.

This book focuses on the terms “light”, “illumination”, and their synonyms based on the “Theotokarion”, a book of selected hymns dedicated to the Virgin Mary and edited by Saint Nicodemus the Hagiorite. These terms are examined alongside selected hymns of said Liturgical book, by comparing them to their original Patristic or other sources.

This book focuses on Cretan's Saints from the 1st to the 21st century. Additionally, specific topics upon General Hagiography are included at the end of the book.

Όσα περιλαμβάνονται στις σελίδες του βιβλίου αυτού, αφορούν στην Αγία Μεγαλομάρτυρα Ειρήνη. Σε αυτό καταχωρίζονται αδημοσίευτα, εν πολλοίς, Αγιολογικά και Υμνολογικά κείμενα, ενώ καταβάλλεται προσπάθεια να φωτιστούν, να ερμηνευτούν άγνωστες πτυχές του Βίου της και να αναδειχθούν στοιχεία της Υμνογραφίας και Εορτολογίας.

Στο παρόν βιβλίο καταχωρίζονται τρεις μελέτες που κινούνται στο πλαίσιο Τηε Αγιότητας και της Ποίησης (Καβάφης, Χριστιανόπουλος, Σικελιανός, Μητροπολίτης Πέργης κ. Ευάγγελος). Μέσω αυτών προβάλλονται άγνωστες πτυχές του θέματος, διερευνάται το γενεσιουργό υπόβαθρο και παρέχονται ερεθίσματα για περαιτέρω έρευνα και μελέτη.

Οι ύμνοι προς τιμήν των Αγίων Αγαθόποδος και Θεοδούλου στο Σιναϊτικό κώδικα 623, φφ. 17r-19v  του 11ου αιώνα παρουσιάζουν εξαιρετικό ενδιαφέρον για πολλούς λόγους, όπως υμνογραφικούς, πηγών, ρητορικών σχημάτων, θεολογικών, δογματικούς κ.ά. Η πατρότητα των ύμνων πρέπει να αποδοθεί στον υμνογράφο Γεώργιο Νικομηδείας του 9ου αιώνα.

The hymns in honor of Saints Agathopus and Theodoulos according to Sin. Gr. 623, ff 17r-19v, (11th century) are interesting for many reasons Hymnographical, textual, theological, doctrinal, etc. The paternity of the hymnographic text should be attributed to the poet George Nicomedia of the 9th century.

Τα κείμενα που περιλαμβάνονται στο παρόν πόνημα γράφτηκαν σε διαφορετικές χρονικές περιόδους, μεταξύ των ετών 2004 και 2016 και πολλά από αυτά παρέμεναν αδημοσίευτα μέχρι σήμερα.
Στόχος του βιβλίου είναι να ευαισθητοποιήσει τον αναγνώστη, καθώς αγγίζει πτυχές της προσωπικότητας του ανθρώπου, της κοινωνικής του δράσης και θίγει σύγχρονα προβλήματα στον Ελλαδικό -και όχι μόνο- χώρο. Τα κείμενά του κρίνονται αξιοπρόσεκτα και εξ επόψεως Ποιμαντικής, καθώς η Εκκλησία δεν περιορίζεται στο πλαίσιο της Θείας Λατρείας, αλλά καλείται να εκφέρει λόγο και για όσα συμβαίνουν σε κοινωνικό επίπεδο• να επουλώσει τις πληγές του ανθρώπου που προκαλούνται από τις ποικίλες διενέξεις και την αναλγησία του κόσμου σήμερα.

The responsibility of the Church lies in the fact that it ought to listen to the needs of our contemporary society, to take care people, besides the Divine Worship offered.

Το παρόν πόνημα εστιάζει στην ερμηνευτική προσέγγιση (θεολογική, γλωσσική και ρητορική) τεσσάρων ύμνων της Αναλήψεως του Κυρίου, ενώ εκθέτει παράλληλα τη θεολογία των Ύμνων της Αναλήψεως εν γένει.
Μέσα από τους ύμνους καταδεικνύεται η δυαδικότητα των φύσεως του Θεού Λόγου και στηλιτεύεται η αιρετική κακοδοξία, όπως του Αρειανισμού, Μονοφυσιτισμού, Μανιχαϊσμού, Δοκητισμού, κ.ά.

This book focuses on four selected hymns of the Hymnography of the Ascension of the Lord which are interpretated from the point of view  of theology, rhetoric and language.
Additionally, the theology of all hymns of the Ascension of Jesus Christ is also included in this book. 
Both the above demonstrate the duality Natures of Jesus Christ and at the same time the hymnographers try not to be trapped into heretical views.
The hymns of the Ascension disapprove, besides the others, the Heresy of Arianism,  of Monophysitism, of Manicheanism, of Nestorianism, of Docetism, etc.

Το εσπέρας της 25ης Μαρτίου, μιας ημέρας με ποικίλους συμβολισμούς, θρησκευτικούς και εθνικούς, μιας ημερομηνίας συνυφασμένης με την πρώτη ημέρα του κόσμου, τη δημιουργία και την αναγέννηση της φύσης, οικονόμησε ο Ζωοδότης Κύριος να πέσουν τα φτερά του "υψηπετούς αετού" της Θεολογίας· παραχώρησε ο Παντοκράτωρ να λυγίσει το "ευσκιόφυλλον ξύλο" της κατ' άμφω σοφίας, ο "μονήρης κυπάρισσος" της Κρητικής γης, ο "κραταιός" εκκλησιαστικός "άνακτας" της πέμπτης ηπείρου και επέτρεψε ο Θεός Λόγος να σιγήσει το "ακροθίνιο" του εκκλησιαστικού λόγου και της συγγραφικής καλάμου, ο Πήγασος της ποιήσεως, ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αυστραλίας κυρός Στυλιανός. Τι κι αν "… το απόλυτο πένθος δεν εκφράζεται /παρά μονάχα με απόλυτη σιωπή…" (Πένθος απόλυτο), η Μητέρα Εκκλησία, το Οικουμενικό μας Πατριαρχείο, θρηνεί για την απώλεια του εκλεκτού Ιεράρχη και διακηρύσσει και σεμνύνεται για την πιστότητα του ευπειθούς τέκνου, του άοκνου διακόνου και στερρού προασπιστή της. Η Εκκλησιαστική κοινότητα της Αυστραλίας, οδυνάται για τον κατ' άνθρωπον απορφανισμό του Ιερουργού, του Ποιμένα, του ακαδημαϊκού Διδασκάλου, του ποιητή, του λογοτέχνη, του πατρός, του υιού (Ο Αγενεαλόγητος), του αδελφού, του συνανθρώπου, του γνήσιου πατριώτη και μαρτυρεί ότι "την ώρα του υπάτου πόνου/ κόβονται τα ύπατα…" (Τα σφαγμένα μαλλιά) κι ας ακούει τη φωνή του Ιεράρχη από την "αντίπερα όχθη" να την προτρέπει πατρικά: "Μην κλαις ακόμη· /είναι νωρίς να στερέψουν οι κόγχες των ματιών σου…" (Μην κλαις ακόμη). Ο υπογράφων, ψελλίζει, την ώρα ετούτη, σαστισμένος "εξόδιον ύμνον και επιτάφιον" προς τον αοίδιμο Αρχιεπίσκοπο Αυστραλίας, αναλογιζόμενος ότι λίγες ημέρες νωρίτερα πάσχιζε, ως άλλος «ομόλογος περίεργος αργόσχολος (και) ακαμάτης» (Εργαστηριακό Β΄), να μαζέψει επίλεκτα εύοσμα άνθη από τον ποιητικό λειμώνα του κραταιού Πρωθιεράρχη, προκειμένου να πλέξει αμάραντο στεφάνι για να προσφέρει σε ομότεχνους, στο Κλεινόν Άστυ. Ακόμη δορυφορούν στη σκέψη του οι στίχοι ποιήματος του αοιδίμου Πρωθιεράρχη: "Υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που δεν είδαμε /μήτε διαβάσαμε τίποτα δικό τους /και κάποια μέρα διαπιστώνουμε κατάπληκτοι /πως σκέφτονται κι αισθάνονται σαν εμάς / σε βαθμό να τους πούμε αδελφούς /χωρίς ίχνος συμβατικής φιλοφρονήσεως. (Ως) … εκ γενετής ομοούσιους…" (Ομόλογοι του πνεύματος). Ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αυστραλίας Στυλιανός, ένας άνθρωπος που γαλουχήθηκε και ανδρώθηκε με την ορφάνια-κυριολεκτική και μεταφορική-, ένας άνθρωπος που "δεν γνώρισε τη χαρά του περιττού /παρά μονάχα την πάλη με τις πρώτες ανάγκες"(Pour vos amours 'sieurs dames)· ο καταξιωμένος θεολόγος και εκκλησιαστικός ηγέτης, ο ευαίσθητος και συνάμα διακριτικός, ο αδούλωτος στο πνεύμα και δωρικός στις εκφράσεις, ο ασυμβίβαστος με τα ημίμετρα της σύγχρονης εποχής, δεν είναι παράδοξο ότι υπήρξε πολλές φορές "σημείο αντιλεγόμενο". Ανήκε στις ισχυρές εκείνες προσωπικότητες που αμφισβητούνται, διότι αρνούνται να συμβιβαστούν και να ταυτιστούν με τη μάζα, πασχίζοντας προς όφελος του συνόλου.
