This essay is an exposition of themes suggested by 'The " Double Bind " on Specialists in Chinese Philosophy' by Yong Huang. 1 While I essentially agree with the facts of the case, I submit for your consideration the contention that our problem has not been properly framed. Once we appreciate the over-arching political context of our dilemma, then the proper characterization of its meaning and the significance of the facts about the crisis of Chinese philosophy will become more readily apparent.
