Combined heat and power in Germany is regulated by the respective law (Kraft-Wärme-Kopplungsgesetz). Also known simply as CHP or cogeneration, it is a technology that leads to simultaneous electricity and heat generation from a fuel source. This type of energy generation is considered cost-saving as it eliminates the necessity of separately purchasing electricity and gas. CHP also provides options for locations where cooling rather than heating is required, which is called combined cooling, heat, and power (CCHP).
