FLIGHT PLAN
OJT 1
I N T RO D U C T I O N TO F L I G H T P L A N :
What is Flight Plan?
o
A process that operators use to plan
the details of their flight.
o
Ensures safety, efficiency, and
coordination with ATC.
Why is it important?
o
Enhances safety and ensures
compliance with
regulations.
o
Helps avoid airspace conflicts and
manage fuel
consumption.
Types of Flight Plans :
V F R (Visual Flight Rules):
o
Used when visual navigation is possible.
o
No detailed route requirements.
I F R (Instrument Flight Rules):
o
Used for flights in conditions where visual
navigation is not possible.
o
Detailed routes, altitude, and airspace
management required.
Key Components of a Flight Plan :
Aircraft Details: Type, equipment, and
registration.
Route: Departure, waypoints,
airways, and destination.
Altitude: Cruising altitude,
considerations for weather and
airspace.
Weather: Pre-flight briefings, conditions
expected during the flight.
Emergency Procedures: Alternate airports,
emergency routes.
Flight Planning Process :
Gathering Information:
o
Weather data, NOTAMs, charts, and
airspace restrictions.
Choosing a Route:
o
Direct routes vs. airways, waypoints,
and air
traffic management.
Determining Altitude:
o
Based on airspace, terrain, and fuel
efficiency.
Assessing Weather:
o
Integrating weather conditions into the
flight plan for safety.
FLIGHT PLAN FILING :
Manual vs. Electronic Submission:
o
flight plans are filed with ATC and
aviation authorities.
Filing Platforms:
o
Use of software like Sky Vector
for route planning.
o
Integration with ATC systems for
real-time
updates.
Documentation:
o
Includes route, altitude, fuel load,
alternate airports, and emergency
instructions.
C H A L L E N G E S IN F L I G H T P L A N :
Weather-related Challenges:
o
Unpredictable weather patterns,
storms, and turbulence.
Airspace Congestion:
o
Managing traffic in busy regions and
avoiding delays.
C A S E STUDY 01
Problems in Flight Planning & Solutions :
1. Weather Issues
o
Problem: Unexpected storms, turbulence, or strong
winds can
change the flight path.
o
Solution: Always check weather updates before and
during the flight. Be ready to adjust the route if
needed.
2. Air Traffi c Control ( ATC ) Delays
o
Problem: Busy airspace can cause delays or
rerouting.
o
Solution: File the flight plan early and stay in
communication with ATC to receive updates and
changes promptly.
3. Fuel Calculation Errors
o
Problem: Underestimating or overestimating fuel
needs can cause problems like running out of fuel
or carrying too much.
o
Solution: Double-check fuel calculations, including
reserves for emergencies or diversions.
4. Restricted Airspace
o
Problem: Airspace restrictions (military zones
or no-fly areas) might block the planned route.
Solution: Review airspace restrictions before
o
planning and choose an alternative route if
:
necessary.
Conclusion
By staying prepared and flexible, most flight planning
problems can be avoided or resolved, ensuring a safe
and smooth journey.

OJT 2
INTRODUCTION:
Pre-Flight documentation refers to the essential set
of papers and digital records that pilots and flight
operations personnel must review and carry before a
flight. These documents ensure that the flight is
planned and executed safely, legally, and efficiently.
They provide detailed information about the aircraft’s
status, passengers, weather conditions, route
planning, and regulatory compliance.There are
several types of NOTAMs, including:
NOTAM :
• A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen or, more inclusively, Notice
to Air Missions) is an essential communication tool used
in aviation to inform pilots and other personnel involved
in flight operations about temporary or time-sensitive
changes that could affect flight safety.
• These notices provide critical, real-time information that
is not already published in standard aeronautical
publications like charts, flight plans, or manuals.
NOTAMs cover a wide range of topics, including
changes to airport facilities (such as runway closures),
airspace restrictions, navigational aid outages,
temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), construction
activities, or hazards like bird activity.
Aerodrome NOTAMs – related to airport facilities or services.
En-route NOTAMs – concerning airspace or route-related issues.
International NOTAMs – affecting international flight operations.
Military NOTAMs – related to military operations or zones.
METROLOGICAL REPORT
• A Meteorological Report (MET Report) is a crucial
component of pre-flight planning and in-flight decision-
making in aviation.
• It provides detailed and up-to date weather
information that allows pilots and flight dispatchers
to assess conditions along the planned route, as well
as at departure, destination, and alternate airports.
• Weather can significantly impact flight safety,
performance, and comfort.
• Therefore, understanding the forecasted and real-
time atmospheric conditions helps in selecting the
best flight path, determining fuel requirements, and
preparing for potential weather-related delays or
hazards.
PASSENEGER MANIFEST
• A Passenger Manifest is an essential document in
aviation that provides a complete list of all
passengers on board a specific flight.
• It includes vital details such as passenger names,
seat numbers, ticket information, special
assistance needs, and sometimes nationality or
passport details for international flights.
• This document is prepared and maintained by the
airline's ground staff and cabin crew, and it plays a
critical role in ensuring the safety, security, and
efficiency of flight operations.
LOAD AND TRIM SHEET
A Load and Trim Sheet is a critical document used primarily in
aviation and
maritime operations to ensure that a vehicle (aircraft) is safely
balanced and within weight limits before departure. It plays a key role
in safety, performance, and fuel efficiency.
Trim Sheet
Load Sheet
Calculating the center of gravity
Basic aircraft weight Adjusting elevator trim settings based on weight
Passengers distribution
Cargo and baggage Ensuring the aircraft is properly balanced front to
Fuel load back (longitudinal trim)
Crew and supplies
TRIP KIT
A Trip Kit is a comprehensive collection of documents,
charts, and essential operational information prepared for a
specific flight or series of flights. It is primarily used by
pilots, dispatchers, and flight operations personnel to
ensure safe and efficient navigation and regulatory
compliance throughout the trip.
TECHNICAL LOG
A Technical Log (also called a Tech Log) is a crucial document
in aviation that records the technical and operational status
of an aircraft. It serves as the primary record of aircraft
airworthiness during daily operations and is a legal
requirement in most countries.
