Strategic Planning
Strategic planning is a disciplined effort to
produce fundamental decisions and
actions that shape organizations activities
with in legal brands(Bryson 2010).

My understanding of strategic planning
I understand that strategic planning is the
process by which I envision my future and
develop strategies,goals,objectives and
action plan to achieve in the future.

Working in Children Hospital as staff nurse
in Gastroentrology & Hepatology
Department, face many issues which
needs to improvement to provide quality
care to patients. These issues are:
Poor Documentation.
Administration of medication at wrong
time.
Inappropriate sterilization technique.

Improper wastage of syringes.
Shortage of staff.
Malpractice.
Irresponsibility.
Poor hand washing.
All these issues arise most of the time due to
nurses negligence behavior.
I have selected the issue poor documentation
which effect the patient care.

My Personal Philosophy
In my strategic planning my task is to
change behavior of hospital staff towards
negligence and Poor documentation.
I make use of my authority and available
resources to fill the gaps and prevail over
the deficiencies
It will forecast where I will be stand after
a specific period of time of 2-3 years.

The knowledge and imagination that are
needed in planning for the future with a
clear purpose( Mayor 2009).

Vision about my career related to this
topic is that I will evaluate the
implementations of proper documentation
in Gastro ward as well in all others
departments of this organization as a
supervisor.

Short Term Goal:
In short term goals I will apply following
Strategies:
To educate nursing staff through
demonstration and lectures.
To give appraisal to the staff nurses that they
will make proper documentation.

Long Term Goal
In long term goals:
I will play my role to evaluated staff nurses that
they must ensure proper documentation.
I will involve the administration staff to make sure
and keep a check and balance that staff follow the
guideline of proper documentation or not.
Strict action will be taken if someone not follow
the guideline.

management staff to make happen change
and involve them.
Give warning letter to staff who will not
adopt the change and not make the proper

Time and continence motivation are the
keys to success for the changes to occur.
Secondly I have to change attitude and
behavior by educate and encourage the
staff nurses through appraisal.

off, the organization is ready to refreeze
and ensure them to maintain this change.

Literature Review
Record keeping is an essential part of
nursing practice with clinical and legal
significance. Good quality record keeping
is linked with improvements in patient
care, while poor standard of
documentation are regarded as
contributing to poor quality nursing
care(Antony 2011).
