Introduction to Mobile Computing
What is Mobile Computing?
• Mobile computing systems are computing systems that can be
easily moved physically and whose computing capabilities can be used
while they are being moved.
• Mobile computing refers to the use of portable computing devices,
such as smartphones and tablets, allowing users to access
information and perform tasks .
• It encompasses a diverse range of technologies, including wireless
communication, mobile applications, and cloud services.
•Examples include:
• Laptops
• Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs)
• Mobile Phones
 A radio-signaling device is installed inside these devices for
receiving and transmitting electronic data.
Features of mobile computing

•Easy to handle and carry these small devices.

•Data can be transferred easily between users.
•Arbitrary network, easily connect to other environment and
transmit data
•Having fast processor speed.
•Good battery life.
•Huge memory capacity.
•No time constraints .
•No place constraints .
•Reduced costs and time etc
Mobile communication refers to an infrastructure that ensures seamless
and reliable communication among wireless devices.
The mobile communication framework consists of communication
devices such as protocols, services, bandwidth, and portals necessary to
facilitate and support the stated services.
Mobile Hardware:

• Mobile hardware consists of mobile devices or device components that can

be used to receive or access the service of mobility. Examples of mobile
hardware can be Smartphone, laptops, portable PCs, tablet PCs, Personal
Digital Assistants, etc.
• These devices are inbuilt with a receptor medium that can send and
receive signals.
• These devices are capable of operating in full-duplex. It means they can
send and receive signals at the same time They don't have to wait until
one device has finished communicating for the other device to initiate
communications
Mobile Software:

• Mobile software is a program that runs on mobile hardware.

• This is designed to deal capably with the characteristics and requirements
of mobile applications.
• This is the operating system for the appliance of mobile devices. In other
words, you can say it the heart of the mobile systems.
• This is an essential component that operates the mobile device.
• This provides portability to mobile devices, which ensures wireless
communication.

2. Global Position System (GPS).
3. Emergency services,
4. Entertainment services.
5. Educational services.
6. Traffic control and information .
7. Use in Business .
8. Credit Card Verification .
9. Airlines industry .
10.Banking.
11. Medical.
12. News reporting.
13. Health care etc .
Technical and other limitations of Mobile Computing :I
1. Insufficient bandwidth
2. Security threats
3. Battery power
4. Transmission interferences
5. Potential health hazards
6. Small interface devices
7. Network stability.
