Wos Elevator Installation Method

This document summarizes the without scaffolding (WOS) elevator installation method. It involves using a temporary working platform to install elevators without traditional scaffolding. The summary describes: 1) Key components of elevators like the shaft, machine room, guide rails, and counterweights. 2) The WOS installation process including setting templates, installing buffers and rails, assembling the car and counterweight, and roping. 3) Advantages of WOS include a safer working environment, more working space, shorter installation time of up to 30%, and unlimited operating height.

What is an
Elevator?
An Elevator also called lift is a
platform either open or closed, used
for lifting people or freight within a
building. There are two types of
elevator; Hydraulic and electric.

Hydraulic elevator uses pump and

hydraulic fluid in operating while the
electric elevator uses sheaves, ropes
counterweights driven by an electric
motor.
components of
elevator
elevator shaft or hoistway is the space
in which one or more elevator car
moves
MAchine room is an area In which the
system responsible for the control of
the elevator are situated.
usually placed above the shaft on the
very top floor.
Guide rails is a t - shaped metal
usually made of steel installed
vertically inside the shaft to guide and
direct the course of travel of an
elevator car and counterweights.
Counter weight it is a unit composed
of steel weights which counter
balance the weight of the Elevator Car
and to which the hoisting rope is
attached
Control Unit, is responsible for
coordinating all aspects of elevator
service operations.
Traction Machine which consists of a
motor, drive, sheave, brake and bed
plate is responsible for the elevator's
movement inside the shaft.
Speed governor Is a speed
regulating system composed of
flywheel with mechanical arms
inside it which stops the lift if it
exceeds the maximum speed.
elevator buffer are safety device
designed to stop a descending car or
counterweight beyond its normal limit
and to soften the force with which the
elevator runs into the pit during an
emergency.
WOS installation
method
The without scaffolding
installation method involves using
a temporary working platform
during the installation process. this
may include the use of "false car"
as a platform for technicians to
work from
Work
methodology
template setting:
• setup the temporary setting of top
template in machine room.
• lowering of piano wires into the
shaft.
• checking plumb lines, shaft
dimension and other necessary
measurements.
• mount top and bottom main rail
and counterweight rail template.
Work
methodology
installation of buffer and bottom
rail:
• set the scaffolding in the pit for
installation of bottom rail.
• setting of buffer's base.
• set bottom rail
Work
assembly/ setting of gondola:
methodology
• setup the temporary setting of top
template in machine room.
• lowering of piano wires into the
shaft.
• checking plumb lines, shaft
dimension and other necessary
measurements.
• mount top and bottom main rail
and counterweight rail template.
Work
methodology
Rail setting and alignment:
• Mark the bracket span based on
approved shopdrawing. bore the
holes.
• base setting.
• fix the base to the wall using
expansion bolts.
• bracket setting
• rail setting

methodology
Entrance equipment installation:
• get the center line of hoistway
entrance opening.
• set the angular support then
install the entrance sill.
• Fix Jamb to entrance sill
• setup hanger case
• door setting
• indicator setting

methodology
Equipment and wiring installation:
• Layout of wiring support
• lowering of travelling cable and
wire into the shaft.
• fixing of intermediate box, button
and lantern accessories
Work
methodology
car and counterweight
• setup chain block
assembly:
Work
methodology
roping:
• set wire rope into the socket of
counter weight side timble rod.
advantages
• safe and secure working
environment for installation staff
• improved available working space
in the pit and shaft
• saving of lift installation time of
up to 30%
• unlimited operating height
