Organizational Behavior
                 [OB]
“A field of study that investigates the
impact that individuals, groups, and
structure have on behavior within
organizations, for the purpose of
applying such knowledge toward
improving an organization’s
effectiveness”
Organizational Behavior
Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study of
the way people interact within groups. Normally
this study is applied in an attempt to create
more efficient business organizations. The
central idea of the study of Organizational
Behavior is that a scientific approach can be
applied to the management of workers.
Organizational Behavior theories are used for
human resource purposes to maximize the
output from individual group members.
 Organizational Behavior
Organizational Behavior (OB) or Organizational
Behavior is "the study of human behavior in
organizational settings, the interface between human
behavior and the organization, and the organization
itself.“ OB research can be categorized in at least
three ways, including the study of (a) individuals in
organizations (micro-level), (b) work groups (meso
-level), and (c) how organizations behave (macro-
level).

Replacing Intuition with
   Systematic Study
Intuition
A feeling not necessarily supported by research.
Systematic Study
Looking at relationships, attempting to
attribute causes and effects, and drawing
conclusions based on scientific evidence.
Provides a means to predict behaviors.
 Where did OB originate?
• Recent study of OB has been based on research
and findings based on scientific evidence
• This replaced the old method of using intuition to
  manage people
• Several disciplines are used in understanding
  human behavior
• Psychology
• Sociology
• Social Psychology
• Anthropology
• Political Science
               DISCIPLINES
