1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

FRONT COVER
Masthead Header
MAIN IMAGE mid shot of the main artist. Takes up the whole page which makes it the main feature if the magazine, so the attention from the audience will be drawn towards it. The image is a mid shot which gives the reader a close up of the audience so they can identify what he is wearing. The artist is also giving direct eye contact which creates a relationship with the reader. BARCODE makes the magazine look professional. Above the barcode is the price and date which also gives the magazine an appealing look. The barcode is tilted to one side as from my research and planning I found that many magazines of this genre had the barcode this way. PUFF offers something extra for the target audience and draws them in. The word plus makes the reader believe they are getting more for what they paid for. Also its placed on a black background to emphasise it. MAIN COVER LINE larger than the other coverlines to make it stand out. Anchors the main image as its the name of the artist featured on the cover. Its placed underneath the slogan of the magazine on the left hand side. I decided to place it here because I took into account the rule of thirds. This way the coverline will be seen if my magazine was to be placed on a magazine shelf. MASTHEAD has an individual font to reflect the genre of music being portrayed. Also goes from one end of the page to the other which makes it stand out. The colour of the masthead matches the colour of the top the artist is wearing. This maintains the house style. COVERLINES includes a heading and small description about what's featured in the magazine. SLOGAN adds detail about the magazine and is catchy so can be used as a trademark to make the magazine easily identified. I feel that here I have developed a typical convention of a music magazine. I feel that I have achieved this by creating a slogan such as this one. When doing research and planning I found that the hip-hop/R&B magazines that I looked at did not incorporate a slogan on their magazine so I thought I would include one in my magazine to make it slightly different. Apart from that I feel that I have followed the typical conventions of a music magazine. HEADER lists other artists featured in the magazine.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS

MAIN IMAGE long shot of the main artist. He is wearing a jacket and jeans which gives him a casual look. Again the facial expression he portrays is care free. His eyes are squinted which makes him look like he has an attitude. This reinforces the type of genre he represents. The clothes also make him look like a style icon that readers may look up to. The mise-en-scene gives the image and the artist an edgy look. This suggests that the artists music can relate to this. PAGE NUMBER, DATE & MAGAZINE TITLE - the title of the magazine is very small and has been put with the date and page number at the bottom left hand corner of the page. COPY - The article is organised into columns which makes it neat and look professional. The article is a question and answer based one. The questions are in the same colour as the K in the title and the same colour as the artists jacket in the image. The answers are in black. This is so that the question and answers are differentiated which makes the article look more appealing. BRIEF DESCRIPTION gives the reader an insight into what the article is about without giving too much away. Also the name of the artist is in a different colour to the rest of the description to emphasise his name. SUBHEADING gives the article a title. MAIN HEADING anchors the main image. Its the initials of the artist which is effective. The K is in a different colour the J which adds interest. The J also overlaps the K. BYLINES - credit for the author and photographer.
