II. Intended Learning Outcome

Trough varied activities and discussion, the Grade 10 students with at least
80% accuracy are expected to:

A. Recall on independent and dependent events ;


B. identify conditional probabilities; and
C. solve problems on conditional probabilities.

B. Math Concept:
The Conditional Probability of an event B given A is a probability that the
event B will occur given that an event A has already occurred.
The Formula of Conditional Probability is:

A. Preparation

The Conditional Probability of an event B given A is a probability that the


event B will occur given that an event A has already occurred. This
probability is written as P(B|A) and read as the probability of B given A. in
the case where events A and B are independent (where event A has no
effect on the probability of event B), the conditional probability of event B
given event A is simply the probability of event B, that is, P(B).

For the student to further understand the definition of the Conditional


Probability, the teacher will let the student to answer the activity 1 –
Probability of an Event Given Certain Conditions (page 346).

B. Presentation

The Formula of Conditional Probability is:

P( A)

Which also can be written as:


P ( A ꓵ B)
P(B|A) =
P( A)

Example 1

In a group of 100 sports car buyers, 40 bought alarm systems (A), 30 purchased
bucket seats (B), and 20 purchased an alarm system (A) and bucket seats (B). if a
car buyer chosen at random bought an alarm system, what is the probability
they also bought bucket seats?

To find the probability the teacher will the student to find:


1. P (alarm system) = 40% or 0.4
2. P (bucket seats) = 30% or 0.3
3. P (alarm system and bucket seats) = 20% or 0.2
4. P (bucket seats given the alarm system)
- to find the probability of the bucket seats (B) given the alarm
system (A) we will use the Formula for Conditional Probability.

P ( A∧B) 0.2
P(B|A) = = = 0.5
P( A) 0.4

Direction: In a ¼ sheet of paper. Answer Activity 4 number 1 on page 350.


Find the following probabilities. (6pts)

Instruction: Find the probability. (2pts each)
1. In an exam, two reasoning problems 1 and 2 are asked. 35% student solved
problem 1 and 15% student solved both the problems. How many students who
solved the first problem will also solve the second one?
2. Trixie took two tests, the probability of her passing both tests is 60%. The
probability of her passing the first test is 80%. What is the probability of her
passing the second given that she has passed the first test?
3. A bag contains red and blue marbles. Two marbles are drawn without
replacement. The probability of selecting a red marble and then a blue marble
is 28%. The probability of selecting a red marble on the first draw is 50%.
What is the probability of selecting a blue marble on the second draw, given
that the first marble drawn was red?

Answer:
1. P(problem 2 | problem 1) = 0.428 or 43%
2. P(second test | first test) = 0.75 or 75%
3. P(blue marble | red marble) = 0.56 or 56%

VI. Assignment
In a ¼ sheet of paper make 2 word problems involving permutation, combination,
union and intersection of events, dependent and independent events and
conditional probability.
