capacity and no load voltage ratio are as under

The transformer shall generally conform to IS:1180(Part1): 2014 or its latest modification and

transformer. Also documents vide reference no: STI 1180 (Part-1)/2 May 2015 shall be

2.1 Connection: Delta-Star, neutral point of the secondary side should be brought to a separately
insulated bushing, outside the cable entry box
2.2 Vector Group : DYN-11
2.3 Limits of temperature rise:-
2.3.1 The type of cooling shall be as per IS: 2026 (Part-2).

The permissible temperature rise shall not exceed the limits of 45°C (when measured by
2.3.2 resistance method) for transformer winding and 40°C (measured by thermometer) for top oil
when tested accordance with IS: 2026 (Part-2).

The standard tapping ranges, when taps are provided, shall be as follows:
Winding tapped : HV.
2.4 Tapping Numbers of tap positions: 7.
Voltage variations : (+) 5% to (-)10% in step of 2.5% for variation of HV.
For ratings 250 KVA or greater than 250 KVA no load tap changers may be provided for
variation of HV voltage from (+) 5% to (-)10% in step of 2.5% for variation of HV

2.8 ABILITY OF TRANSFORMERS TO WITHSTAND EXTERNAL SHORT CIRCUIT: The performance of


transformer under external short-circuit conditions shall be in accordance with IS:2026 (Part-5)
3 CONSTRUCTIONAL DETAILS

(a) The transformer core shall be made of high grade non- ageing grain oriented cold rolled
steel sheets of low hysteresis loss and high permeability. The core structure shall be securely
grounded to prevent electrostatic potential. Lifting eyes and lugs shall be provided on the limbs
3.1 Core and coils assembly. Preferably no bolt shall be used in the cores. Clamping shall be done
externally to the limb.
(b) The design of the magnetic circuit shall be such as to avoid static discharges, development
of short circuit paths within itself or to the earthed clamping structure and the production of
flux component at right angles to plane of lamination which may cause local heating.
(c) Core and windings shall be capable of withstanding shocks during transport, installation &
service and adequate provision shall be made to prevent movement of core & winding relative
to tank during these conditions.
(d) All steel sections used for supporting the core shall be thoroughly sand blasted after cutting,
drilling and welding.
(a) Tanks shall be of welded construction and fabricated from boiler steel plates of adequate
thickness. The weld procedure and performance shall be in line with ASME BPVC –IX.
3.2 Tanks (b) All seams and joints those are not required to be opened at site shall be factory welded and
wherever possible shall be double welded.
(c) Tanks stiffness shall be provided for general rigidity and these shall be designed to prevent
retention of water.
(d) The tanks shall be designed to withstand – Mechanical shocks during transportation,
Vacuum filling of oil & short circuit force. Vacuum requirement shall be as per IS:1180 (Part-
1):2014 (latest).
(e) Adequate space shall be provided at the bottom of the tank for settlement of sediments.
(f) Suitable guides shall be provided in the tank for positioning the core & coil assembly.
(g) The tanks shall be suitable for movement in both direction during shipment & each tank
shall be provided with Lifting lugs suitable for lifting the complete transformer and a minimum
of four jacking pads
(a) The tank cover shall be sloped to prevent retention of rain water and shall not distort when
lifted.
3.3 Cover Tank (b) At least two adequately sized inspection covers one at each end of the tank shall be
provided for easy access to bushing and earth connection. The inspection covers shall have
suitable lifting arrangement.
(c) The tank covers shall be fitted with thermometer pockets. The thermometer pocket shall be
fitted with a captive screwed top to prevent ingress of water.

(i) The surface to be painted shall be made free from all rust and mill scale or foreign adhering
mater of grease and all external rough surface cavities by shot blasting or other approved

(ii) All steel surfaces in contact with insulating oil as far as accessible shall be painted with heat
resistant, oil insoluble, insulating varnish or paint.
(iii) All steel surfaces exposed to weather shall be given a primary coat of Zinc chromate and
two coats of dark admiralty gray paints.
(iv) All paints shall be carefully selected to withstand tropical heat and extremities of weather.
The paint shall not scale off or wrinkle or be removed by abrasion due to normal handling.
(v) All nuts and bolts used in the transformer for external fittings shall be galvanized or zinc
passivated.
(vi) All nuts and bolts used in the transformer for internal fittings i.e. in oil shall be painted.
5 TEST & INSPECTION (AS PER IS):

(a) Measurement of winding resistance IS:2026(Part-1).


ROUTINE TEST: (TO BE CONDUCTED (b) Measurement of voltage ratio and check of phase displacement (IS:2026-Part-2).

(h) Pressure test as per IS:1180 (Part-1).
(i) Oil leakage test as per IS:1180 (Part-1).

(a) Lighting impulse test (IS:2026-Part-3).


TYPE TESTS: (TO BE CONDUCTED ON (b) Temperature rise test (IS:2026-Part-2).

ACCESSORIES

TERMINAL ARRANGEMENT FOR Cable entry boxes for both HV & LV sides complete with brass wiping glands suitable for

proof. The neutral point of secondary side should be brought out to a separately insulated
bushing outside the cable box. All the cable connection studs should made of Copper.

Gaskets wherever used shall conform to Type III as per IS:11149/Type C as per IS : 4253 (Part-2).

Oil conservator with oil and drain plug (for transformers of capacity 40 KVA & above).

Dial type thermometer to measure temperature (for transformers of capacity 40 KVA & above).
6.5 Filter valves, drain valves & valve flanges should be as per table 1 & 2 of IS:3639
6.6 Explosive vent air release plug.
6.7 Earthing terminals should consist of bolts size as given in IS:1363
6.8 Lifting lugs and four unidirectional rollers.
6.9 Silica gel breather.
6.10 Diagram plate, rating plate
6.11 Buccholz relay with trip and alarm contacts for transformer of 500 KVA & above only
(Operation of relay should trip HV side panel).
6.12 Necessary test certificate should be sent for examination at the time of delivery
6.13 Classification of insulating materials for electrical machinery and apparatus in relation to their
thermal stability in service shall be as per IS:1271
6.14 Radiator with cooling tube (for transformer with capacity 40 kVA and above) Mild steel
transformer cooling tubes as per IS:8036.
7 Service Conditions The provision of IS:2026 (Part-1) shall apply

In addition, the BIS certificate marked license no. (CM/L XXXXXXXXXX) and reference to BIS
8 Marking certification marks scheme refer: - www.bis.org.in” shall be clearly and indelibly marked on the
rating plate.
8.1 Rating Plate Each transformer shall be marked with manufacturer identification, year of manufacture &
other details as per IS:1180(Part-1):2014 in respect of distribution transformer. The
distribution transformer may also be marked with the Standard Mark.
8.2 Terminal marking plate Each transformer shall be provided with a terminal marking plate in accordance with
IS:1180(Part-1):2014.
9 Standards

9.1 Transformers covered by this specification shall, unless otherwise specified be built to conform
to the latest Indian Electricity Rules, wherever applicable and the requirements of latest issue
of IS: 1180 and 2026, CBIP standards and other IS (all as pr latest issues)
9.2 In the event of a conflict between the above standards and the stipulation laid down in the
specification the later shall govern

TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED The bidder shall share notarized copy (ies) of self-authenticated valid BIS marking license with
10 BIS schedule/BIS endorsement showing coverage of the BOQ item(s) clearly indicating validity

(i) The complete set of drawings for the transformers shall be provided in duplicate with the
DOCUMENTS TO SUBMITTED supply for convenience of installation of the same at site and maintenance after
11 Warranty/Guarantee period. The equipment to be manufactured as per NIT.
