2. (a)

1. God told Abraham to provide a heifer 3years old, a she goat 3 years old, a ram 3 years old, a turtle
dove and a young pigeon for the ceremony.
2. Abraham cut the animals into two.

5. When the birds of prey came to eat the carcasses, Abraham drove them away.
6. As the sun was going down Abraham fell into a deep sleep/a thick darkness came over him.

1. In the Jewish community circumcision is for the male children only while in African practices , its for
both male and female.
2. Among the Jews, circumcision is performed on babies of 8 days old whereas in traditional African
communities ,its done during adolescence stage.
3. In African communities, it’s a test of courage whereas in Jewish community it’s a sign of covenant with
God/sign of faith,
4. Circumcision in African communities is a communal practice whereas among the Jews ,only members
of the immediate family participate.
5. The traditional African communities, initiates takes up responsibilities while among the Jewish ,the
initiates are too young to shoulder any responsibility.
6. In traditional African communities circumcision is carried out during specific seasons while among the
Jews it is continuous. 6 x 1 = 6 marks

3. (a)

1. Saul demonstrated impatience in his leadership i.e. he went ahead to offer sacrifices to God instead of
waiting for Samuel.
2. He failed to obey God’s instructions to destroy everything and spared King Agag of the Amalekites.
3. Saul became jealous and plotted to kill David when he learned that he had been chosen to be the next
king of Israel
4. He consulted a medium so as to communicate with the spirit of Samuel who died, thus breaking the
Mosaic Law which forbade divination.
5. He committed suicide when he realised that the philistines would defeat them in battle.
6. He was not repentant of his mistakes.
7. He took the best sheep and cattle from the Amalekites for self-gain; he cheated Samuel that he
wanted to offer the animals as sacrifice to God.
8. He lost faith in God 6x 1= 6 marks

(b)

i. David brought the Ark of the covenant to the Jerusalem. This signified God’s presence among the people.

ii. He made Jerusalem the holy religious city.

iii. He composed the psalms which were used in worship by Israelites/ David praised God through song and
dance

iv. He showed respect to the prophets of Yahweh.

v.When David did mistakes, he, humbly repented.

vi. He advised the Israelites to obey God’s commandments.

vii. David constantly prayed to God and in so doing acted as an example to the Israelites.

He built altars for God/offered sacrifice to God

He made preparation for the building the temple/he wanted to build the temple for God
David wanted to build a temple for God where the ark of the covenant would be kept.

-Jeremiah was born in Anathoth near Jerusalem

-He was the son of Hilkiah the priest

-While he was still a young man he received Gods call

-Jeremiahs call was in form of a dialogue with God.

-He had a deep knowledge of history/law of Moses/teaching of earlier prophets

-He led a lonely life/he did not marry/raise a family/did not attend social gatherings

-He was rejected by people because of his prophetic mission

-He suffered spiritually/emotionally/physically but persevered

-He was imprisoned because of his message

i. They were to live according to God’s law and obey all his commandments.

ii. They would not intermarry with foreigners living in their land.

iii. They promised not to farm every seventh year/ they were to cancel all the debts.

iv. They would make an annual contribution towards temple expenses/ not to neglect the house of God.

v. They were to provide wood for burnt sacrifices.

vi. They were to offer the first fruit of their harvest/ dedicated their firstborn sons/ flocks as required by the
law.

vii. They would pay their tithes in accordance with the law.

1. The government has allowed freedom of worship/given permission to churches to operate electronic
