Why the Greeks Won the Greco-Persian War Essay
Why the Greeks Won the Greco Persian War

There are times in history that something will happen and it will defy all logic. It was one of those
times when a few Greek city/states joined together and defeated the invasion force of the massive
Persian Empire. The Greeks were able to win the Greco Persian War because of their naval
victories over the Persians, a few key strategic victories on land, as well as the cause for which they
were fighting. The naval victories were the most important contribution to the overall success against
the Persians. The Persian fleet was protecting the land forces from being outflanked and after they
were defeated the longer had that protection. While the Greeks had very few overall victories in
battle they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large Persian contingent of about 200 ships was destroyed while on maneuver to get behind the
Greek navy. More tragedy would strike the Persians when stormy weather struck and damaged their
ships during the Battle of Artemisium.
The Battle of Salamis was the icing on the cake for the Greeks. They were able to defeat the larger
Persian fleet by dictating the terms of the battle. They choose a location that favored their smaller
swifter ships instead of the much larger, heavier Persian ones. The Greeks were able to maneuver
and ram the Persians at will and had most of the Persian fleet in check by nightfall. The funny thing
about it is that Xerxes had a throne set up for him on the island of Salamis to watch the battle. After
the Greeks victory here they had control of the seas. This restricted the Persian fleet from keeping
the army supplied and protected. Xerxes took the remaining elements of his fleet and headed back to
Asia after the battle.
The victory that sealed the deal for the Greeks was the Battle of Plataea. It took place the following
spring after the Persian general Mardonius wintered in Thessaly with the Persian army. Hoplites
from Athens and Pelopennesia combined to make the largest army in Greek history. A Spartan king,
Pausanias, who routed the Persian army and killed their general, led them.
The Greek ground forces achieved some strategic success as well. They were able to affect the will
of the non regular
Essay on Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, popularly known as FDR, was born on January 30, 1882 at the
family estate in Hyde Park, New York. His father, James, graduated from Harvard Law School,
married, had a son, and took over his family?s rights in coal and transportation. Despite the fact
that he lost a good deal of money in financial gambles, he remained wealthy enough to travel by
private railroad car, to live comfortably on his Hudson River estate at Hyde Park, and to travel at
length. After his first wife died, James waited four years to remarry to Sara Delano, a sixth cousin.
She was also a member of the Hudson River aristocracy, and although she was only half of James?
52 years, she settled into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennis and golf, at which he excelled, were not considered important? (Miller 27). However he
was liked enough for someone home schooled his whole life, and FDR displayed his ability to
adapt to situations. In addition, one of the most important virtues that FDR would ever attain came
from his years at Groton: his belief that the children of the upper class had a duty to give back to the
lesser fortunate.
FDR then went on to Harvard University, from 1900 to 1904, where he performed only slightly
better than he had at Groton. Thanks to his tremendous preparation at Groton, however, FDR was
able to complete his course study for his B.A. in 1903, only three years. During his fourth year he
was editor of the Crimson, the college newspaper, but he was not admitted to the most prestigious
social club. He did not receive much inspiration in the classroom, and he displayed no excitement
about his studies. While he was at Harvard FDR fell in love with Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, his fifth
cousin once removed. Eleanor came from a troubled past, but grew up in the same aristocracy that
FDR himself had. On March 17, 1905, the two were married. The marriage worked well enough,
with Eleanor giving birth to five children within the first 11 years of their marriage. Having both
been born into wealth, neither Roosevelt had any problem mixing with the aristocracy of the New
York area. Despite often periods of unhappiness, Eleanor stayed true to Franklin for the 40 years of
Social Media Use in Small Business
Social Media Use 1 Social Media Use in a Small Business Social Media Use Introduction Medical
Claims Consulting is an independently owned consulting business located in Austin, TX. The focus
of the company is to help individuals understand and resolve their medical claims and insurance
billing issues. It is a single person business that was established in November of 2009. The services
offered can be handled virtually, eliminating the need for face to face, in person consultations,
therefore clients can be physically located anywhere, however thus far the majority reside in Texas.
Currently, little marketing is done to obtain new clients. Networking, word of mouth referrals and an
affiliation with a national association, Medical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means customers can now broadcast their feelings about a business to thousands of people
instantly. This has led marketers and small business owners to turn to the Internet as an avenue
for cost effective marketing (Phillips et all, 2010). Small business owners can use email
campaigns, advertise on websites and word ofmouth viral marketing at a fraction of the price of
traditional advertising. For instance a magazine ad can cost thousands of dollars, yet an ad on
Facebook may only cost a few cents each time a person clicks on it (Barnes Mattson, 2009). In
2010, there were 221 million internet users and 9 of 10 internet users visited a social network at
least once a month (Sass, 2011). This provides small business the opportunity today to access
millions of people at no monetary cost, something which was only a dream a few years ago (Lacho
et al, 2010). Businesses are turning to Twitter for instance, as they look for simple, inexpensive ways
to promote their business and disseminate the latest industry information about their company.
Twitter is also a tool small business can use to manage their online identity and find out what their
clients are saying about their company or competition (Geho et al, 2010). Social media sites can
propagate positive messages about products, raise awareness and organically recruit additional
members, all which can provide powerful competitive
A Research Study On Nursing School
Though she could not finish nursing school because she had her second child, her love for science
and medicine did not fade. She worked in a hospital for several years while taking care of 3
children on her own. She then got her master s in Healthcare management where she then pursued a
career in clinical research. Within 4 years she became a level 3 clinical researchassociate where she
will potentially become a Clinical research director of all CRA s. My mother knew that helping
people with illnesses was her passion and though she did not finish nursing school, she was not
about to let that stop her from helping people. Surgeons, doctors, nurses, PA S, and health
administrators are not the only people that help the ill, clinical researcher s do as well , she said.
We are a branch within the health field that regulates the safety and efficacy of treatment,
medications, and diagnostic products intended for people to use. Throughout my life, my mother
taught me to follow my dreams and whatever I did to always find a way to help the world for the
better. Ever since then, my dream was to follow in my mother s footsteps and potentially be in
charge of a hospital or clinic.

My philosophy is a mere tool trying to fix every loose screw! One example of my philosophy is
the desire to heal fractured bones with the use of stem cells. About 4 years ago I fractured my
sacrum iliac joint running hurdles in summer track and ever since that day I have never,

The Virgin Suicide Jeffery Eugenides
The Virgin Suicide by Jeffery Eugenides
1.My first impression of the book was that I was very shocked because on the literal second page it
starts off with an attempted suicide. The feelings I had from this book was that it was an ultimately
a sad because death and suicide is highly frowned upon.
2.No, because you know starting off that reading the back cover and from the title that the girls will
eventually commit suicide however you don t know why. Throughout the novel you are on the edge
of your seat trying to understand what would posses these girls to commit suicide.
3.It was an unusual read because the book started with attempted suicide, when through the book
talking about normal life then BAM; all the girls commit suicide in the ... Show more content on

The most compelling part of the novel for me is when Alex is in jail for getting caught and arrested
for gang affiliation and rape. This was the most compelling part for me because I found that the way
the officers manipulated and attempted to brain wash him to better society , I found their ways of
brain washing to be interesting.
3.The most challenging part of the novel was the crimes the Alex and his gang had committed. This
was most challenging for me because I found that it was a difficult read being that it went into
detail of all the crimes they committed. An example would be the old, rich cat lady and how Alex
smashed her head in; I found that I personally could not finish this.
4.Alex is a boy who doesn t want to be treated as a kid anymore but he isn t ready to be treated as
an adult. In a way I can find myself relating to Alex in the way that he wants to be treated as an
adult but at the same time I don t think that I m ready either.
5.I appreciate the fact that Alex and his gang eventually changed and came to the conclusion that the
wanted to better themselves, however I believe that if they didn t get arrested they wouldn t have
changed their ways. The fact that Burgess used extreme detail when describing the boys crimes, I
found it extremely inappropriate on his part being that it was morally
African Slave Trade Essay
African s were used for European colonists in the Americas who needed cheap labor and enslaved
them to work on their plantations and farms. Although slavery has existed in Africa for centuries,
there were a few striking occurrences that allowed slavery and slave trade to grow rapidly in it s
popularity. The spread of Islam, Muslim rulers, Portuguese dying by the millions, the labor of
Spanish America, and England s domination all contributed to the causes of African slave trade.
African slaveryduring the Atlantic world period led to the economic and cultural development of the
Americas and Africa.
The spread of Islam into the Africa called for the need of slavery and slave trade. Muslim rulers
rationalized enslavement in accordance with the Muslim belief that non Muslim prisoners of war
could be bought and sold as slaves. In African and Muslim civilizations, slaves had some legal rights
and had the opportunity for social mobility. An aftereffect of the Muslim ruler s justification was just

The Europeans turned to captured Africans instead because they saw advantages in using them in
the Americas. First, since many of the Africans has been around the European diseases, they were
more immune to them and wouldn t get sick as easily as they would. Second, the Africans had a
lot of experience in farming and were easily taught plantation work. Third, the Africans made it
hard for them to escape because they didn t know their surroundings very well. Fourth, since their
skin was dark, if they managed to escape, it was hard for them to live among the others and could
easily be found again. Fifth, Africans were used to the heat of the new tropical region and could
work dawn to dusk. In 1870, the Atlantic slave trade had deceased and Europeans had imported
around 9.5 million Africans into the
Imagery In Sunrise Over Fallujah
Imagery is identified in Sunrise Over Fallujah to emphasize the dark tone throughout the book. I
seen a 240 take a guy s leg off from a 100 yards...The whole leg came off and the sucker was just
laying there on the ground, looking at his leg as he died states a big headed corporal (chapter 2 pg
37 38). His statement describes a gruesome scene of someone dying. This allows the audience to
envision what it would be like to fight in Iraq/Afghanistan and puts them in the perspective of a
soldiers shoes, part of unit that is most hated.

The author creates a neutral and sympathetic tone addressed to the reader about the setting and
situation of the book. The reader already knows about the state of devastation Iraq was in due to
war, but the author uses a sympathetic tone towards the soldiers to show that they are worn down
and can not be in a state of relax. In the book, Birdy says, ..I kept reaching for the weapon I had
left in Baghdad (Chapter 14 pg 193). The author describes his mentality through his statement as a
way of defense as he impulsively grabs for his weapon in what the reader can infer as fear. The
author uses a sympathetic tone towards soldiers like Birdy to show how the war has affected their
attitudes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blues in SUnrise Over Fallujah represent the hardships of the soldiers time in Iraq. Jonesy of
the first squad sings the song to show his perspective of the war through a soldier s pain and
reveal to the audience about what war is like. Jonesy sings, Well the bombs are falling, yes the
bombs are coming down. Baby, them bombs are falling, they re really coming down.. (Chapter 6 pg
50). Although the sight of bombs falling is not pleasant, he sings sarcastically because the squad is
bitter about having to apologize about killing nearby citizens from the
Jonathan Swift s True Purpose
Katherine Rowland Rowland 1
Mrs.Hofler
MYP English 2 20 November 2014
Jonathan Swift s True Purpose Happy adventure tale, wonderful children s book, filth, and absurd
were just a few words that people during the 17th century used to describe Gulliver s Travels.
During the 17th century there was a period of new ideas and creativity; that period was called the
Reformation. The Reformation period was a time of change for how people interpreted the world
around them. The opinions of Gulliver s Travels were based off of interpretations of the book, the
interpretations were not always correct; therefore, the opinions were not correctly informed. Swift
was specifically committed to the Protestant idea, that man is sinful by nature. ( Novels for Students
83). Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels uses satire to critique the human condition. Swift uses his
satire to create a world where he displays all of the ways humans can and have acted towards others.
Swift examines the human condition through the Lilliputians, Laputans, Brobdingnag, Houyhnhnms,
and the Yahoos. Some people misread the book and that is why there are uninformed negative
opinions towards the book. The people that misunderstood were offended, after discovering it is not
a simple adventure tale, but a tale about the unfavorable side of a person. These people called the
book horrible, shameful, and
Masquerade Senior Project
Masquerade for the Masked Survivors Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can
change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has (Margaret Mead). My senior project
was a masquerade to raise money for human trafficking relief. Seeing as I would have needed to be
trained to help one on one with those who had been affected by trafficking, giving money to an
organization that houses and rehabilitates them was the best way that I could help. The Engedi
House is a safe adult home with a friendly family atmosphere, specifically created for housing those
affected by human trafficking. The residents are required to complete the activities of home life and
the Engedi LearningCenter.
A $32 billion annual industry, human trafficking is a type of modern slavery that involves the
transportation or trade of innocent people for the purpose of work, whether it be sexual or just for
labor. Human trafficking impacts people of all backgrounds, and there are numerous reasons one
may get trafficked. Men are often trafficked into hard labor jobs, while children are trafficked into ...

In meeting these learning goals I had to complete some tasks and do research on human trafficking.
To meet learning goal one, I emailed many different Human Trafficking Relief Organizations to
find one to donate to. I asked questions such as how the money helped the affected people and what
percent was given to them. To my dismay none of the 4 organizations emailed back. I finally went
online and did more research on human trafficking in my county and found a local organization
called the Engedi House. This non profit organization is led by an outstanding group of
