Historical Context Of Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown is a piece of writing created by the Gothic writer Nathaniel Hawthorne.
This work of art was created in 1835, the story was inspired by the notorious Salem Witch Trials
of 1692. Nathaniel Hawthorne is from Salem, Massachusetts. There is a lot of historical context
behind this story mainly because it is inspired by the Salem Witch Trials. According to
History.com (2011), The infamous Salem witch trials began during the spring of 1692, after a
group of young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil and
accused several local women of witchcraft (History, 1). According to Bill Delaney (2006), Young
Goodman Brownis a perfect example of Hawthorne s favorite theme: that human nature is full...

There was a scream drowned immediately in a louder murmur of voices, fading into far off
laughter, as the dark cloud swept away, leaving the clear and silent sky about Goodman Brown.
But something fluttered lightly down through the air, and caught on the branch of a tree. The
young man sized it, and beheld the pink ribbon (Hawthorne, 675). Faith is forever gone and now
Goodman Brown believes that there is no good left on the earth. The next morning he wakes up
walks into town and notices that everything is back to normal. The effects of his dream or
experience is that he now see s everyone in a different light. Goodman Brown no longer goes near
Faith and the other towns people he seen at the devil worship ceremony. There is belief that the
Salem witch trials was caused by fungus that would cause people to hallucinate. According to PBS
(2015), When Linnda Caporael began nosing into the Salem witch trials as a college student in the
early 1970s, she had no idea that a common grain fungus might be responsible for the terrible events
of 1692 (PBS, 1). After years of research Caporael came to a
Family Guy And Spongebob
When I was a young child around the years between seven and twelve, I used to come home from
school and watch Family Guy. My mom would often catch me watching this show and yell at me,
but to be honest I thought it was funny. So I told my dad that I was watching Family Guy quite
often and he didn t even care, so it all worked out. One thing that I noticed through all of this, is
that I knew I was watching a great cartoon when I would watch ut over and over again and feel
entertained by it. That s what i did all the time with Family Guyand Spongebob and other various
cartoons. I would come home and watch them and even watch these shows before school to get me
motivated for the day. Not only did I love the creativity, but the humor and great... Show more

For example, Squidward from Spongebob because Spongebob is literally always getting in
Squidward s way and always bothering Squidward, so he is never able to get a break or peace for
an extended time so he is always fighting for it. Another character that tries to solve his personal
problems throughout the show is Kyle from South Park. Not only does Kyle have to deal with his
parents always getting in the way of what he is trying to do, but Kyle also has to deal with
Cartman s harassment to him all the time. Kyle is just trying to live a happy, peaceful, normal
child s life but these characters are always in the way in a comical way. The Third and final
example of how great cartoons always have a character solving a personal problem is Danny
Phantom. Danny is just trying to live the normal teenage life and get through school, but these
pesky ghosts keep on coming and trying to harass him and terrorize the school or his friends.
Danny basically never gets a break and that is kind of annoying for him, but it is a crucial part of
the show. These are examples of how all great cartoons are considered great cartoons because they
have the one characters that always are trying to solve their personal
The Rebirth Of Ancient Cultures

The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of
the Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and history.
The Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of Florentine
life, but eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion, architecture, and
politics have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance literally means rebirth :
the rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek and Roman, which had
been lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florencewas very prosperous
during the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of many important
thinkers, artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along with the birth of the
philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures were driven by a revived
interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of human based ideals in the
arts, and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon the Florentine government.
Italian thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and Romans thought, a driving force
of the Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to rediscover the glorious past of these
cultures. They strongly believed
Modernist Elements in the Hollow Men

T.S.Eliot, The Hollow Men (95 98). The end of The Hollow Men can only be the beginning of a
deep and long reflection for thoughtful readers. T.S. Eliot, who always believed that in his end is
his beginning, died and left his verse full of hidden messages to be understood, and codes to be
deciphered. It is this complexity, which is at the heart of modernism as a literary movement, that
makes of Eliot s poetry very typically modernist. As Ezra Pound once famously stated, Eliot truly did
modernize himself . Although his poetry was subject to important transformations over the course of

The reader must participate in the making of the poem or story by digging the structure out and
create coherence out of the seeming incoherence. Therefore, the search for meaning, even if it does
not succeed, becomes meaningful itself. Modernism is also characterized by the use of fragmentary
techniques. Compared with earlier writing, modernist literature tends to omit explanations,
interpretations, connections, summaries and distancing that provide clarity and continuity in
traditional literature. The ideas of order, sequence, and unity are abandoned because they are
considered by modernist writers as only expressions of a desire for coherence rather then truthful
reflections of reality. A poem or a novel is built through an assemblage (or collage) of fragments,
and a short work is a fragment itself. This fragmentation is meant to reflect the modern reality, a
reality of flux and alienation. Fragments are drawn from diverse areas of experience. They can be
vignettes of contemporary life, chunks of popular culture, dream imagery, religious symbols or
symbols from the author s own life experience. These various levels and different kinds of
materials enable the modernist work to move across time and space, shift from the public to the
personal and respond to different sorts of concerns of a larger audience. There was
Essay On The Second Great Awakening
The major changes in American religion that occurred in the early nineteenth century were the
Second Great Awakening. The Second Great Awakening was a Christian Revival movement during
the early nineteenth century. The movement began around 1800, it had begun to gain momentum
from the 1820. With the Second Great Awakening; new religions were established, there were
different academic curriculums, a change from the trinity to just one deity and they would touch on
American culture and reform. Three of the new religions that formed during the Second Great
Awakening were the Mormons, the Methodists, and the Baptist. Mormons branched of the Church of
JesusChrist of Latter Day Saints. The Mormons made a powerful collective unit in terms of... Show

The second wave had a social impact, generating popular support for sobriety, the abolishment of
slavery, and other social reforms. Before the reform the schools were small and experienced very
limited educational opportunity. The school reform wanted to amend their education system,
which would assist in their children becoming more responsible. Horace Mann of Massachusetts
passed the common school movement that caused public schools to be funded by local property
taxes. Horace Man would set a list of six principles for public education: ignorance and freedom
will not be upheld by the citizens, the public should pay for the training, as well controlled and
preserved, the schools should accept all children, the instruction should be nonsectarian, it should
be prepared by means of the tenets of a free society, and teachers must be professional and well
groomed. (Horace Mann Biography, 2016) The alteration from the Trinity of just one God was
likewise a section of the Second Great Awakening. A noted exponent of such reforms was the
evangelist Charles G. Finney. In addition to being an innovative evangelist whose techniques others
would imitate, he declared that the Gospel saved people, but likewise it was a means to regenerate
society. True to his word, Finney was a fiery abolitionist and encouraged other Christians to take
taken. (The Second Great Awakening,

Hilton Worldwide continues to look for improvement with addition to this number, with possible
hotels to be established in the future. Because Hilton Worldwide is constantly expanding, they are
also expanding their travel professional team ( Global/Corporate News, n.d.). Aimed for stay at

in this industry. In association with that statement, the DoubleTree by Hilton, for instance, has
recently teamed up with google to create a YouTube channel to allow travelers to plan and share
their trip ( Trejos, 2013). This is just another prime example of how the Hilton expands and improves,
this time with technological advances in modern times.

Blade Runner Posthumanism Essay
The Sci fi Film Blade Runner (1982) by Ridley Scott has been an illustration of the idea of
postmodernism and posthuman . The film illustrates the idea of science and technology taking over
the human society. The Idea of postmodernism is highly portrayed as the industry and the economy
which also established most of the characters in the film. Blade Runneralso explores our
understanding of technology as an essential part of our lives and raises questions on issues
pertaining to the are rapidly developing technology. It is a representation of what the conditions of
