All Quiet On The Western Front And Sun Also Rises...
Comparison between All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also Rises

The two books, All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also rises have a number of
differences and similarities. I will address the topics, characters, time periods and writing styles
along with my opinion on the two books. The topic of All Quiet on the Western Front describes how
a German soldier and his friends, in the middle of World War 1, deal with the stresses of the war
and how the soldiers cope with the conditions they are in and the deaths of comrades; these
soldiers are also friends. The book also conveys the stresses of coping with civilian life when
disconnected from the war. The topic of The Sun Also Rises deals with the stresses that a woman
goes through after losing her true love in the war. The themes are different as the stories do not
mirror each other as far as the plot goes. However, they are similar in the fact that both stories touch
on people managing life. I prefer All Quiet on the Western Front because the author wrote the story
from the perspective of the soldier, Paul Baumer and the writing make you feel like ... Show more

All Quiet on the Western Front, most of the main characters are friends who were acquainted with
each other before entering the war. The main character describes not only his surroundings but also
his feelings throughout the book. In The Sun Also Rises, the characters are similar in the fact that
they are also a group of friends. Although there was a similarity, the characters feelings were not
emphasized as much. The author in All Quiet on the Western Front described the characters in
pronounced detail, in reading the book, I felt like I knew each character. In The Sun Also Rises, it
was difficult to relate to the characters as they all had different backgrounds and their feelings going
through the story were not as in depth. In addition, the time periods had similarities and
Compare And Contrast Bipolar And Hypomania
Bipolar disorder is widely heard of across the states, even countries. The country with the highest
rate of bipolar disorders is, of course, the lovely United States of America. We also have the
highest amount of mental patients, but the lowest rate of treatment compared with other
countries throughout the world. There are approximately 5.7 million adults currently struggling
with this disorder. It is believed that two to seven percent of the population has it, and about ten
million people will develop it. However, about half of that ten million will never be diagnosed or
treated properly. Bipolar disorder is the 6th leading cause disability worldwide today, which not
only affects the patient, but also those in their lives. A large amount of people seem to already
have their opinions and ideas of what bipolar is, except most are not correct. Bipolar is not as
simple as it may seem and there is not just one type of bipolar, but rather two. There is Bipolar I
and Bipolar II, each containing their own levels of severity and different symptoms. Bipolar II has
the phase of hypomania, meanwhile in Bipolar II mania is present. Both bipolarś demonstrate... Show

Hypomania differs from the regular manic phase (present in Bipolar I), in the sense that hypomania
is less manic than mania, but still higher than the portrayed ¨normal mood¨; hence the word hypo
(meaning under). Another difference visible amongst the two is while hypomania can occur on its
own, mania can not. Mania is only able to occur in correspondence with a bipolar disorder. Perhaps
the largest distinction is the level of severity (related to impairments). Hypomania is not quite severe
enough for a person to develop dramatic impairments in school functioning or to require
hospitalization. In addition, a person going through the hypomanic phase does not experience any
psychotic features or occupational
Bobtail Squid Symbiotic Essay
Symbiotic relationships are those that evolve between two organisms that interact in a specific
manner with each other. These can range from being facultative, where the relationship is not
required by either organism, to interactions that are obligate and are required by both organisms to
facilitate survival. There are many mechanisms and processes that bacteriaand their hosts can use to
initiate and maintain symbiotic interactions and a few examples will be described in this report.

Vibrio fisheri Euprymna scolopes (bobtail squid) symbiosis

The bioluminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri forms a highly specific symbiotic relationship with
Euprymna scolopes, a species of bobtail squid. V.fischeri will colonize a complex light organ found
in the mantle cavity of the bobtail squid and they use the ability to luminesce as a camouflage
method to avoid predation. The squid uses bioluminescence to match the down welling moonlight
during the night whilst it is active. In return, V.fischeri is provided with a shelter, protection and
nutrients (1). V.fischeri is able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was hypothesised as the Buchnera does not have any motor protein genes in its genome,
however there are many flagella like structures covering the cell therefore acting as secretion
systems. The regulation of the synthesis of essential amino acids by Buchnera is not understood in
great detail but it is believed that it is controlled by the amount of precursors made available to the
bacteria from the host cell. These precursors include glucose as a carbon source, four non essential
amino acids, serine, aspartate, glutamate and glutamine, to act as precursors for the essential amino
acids and guanosine nucleotides which are involved in purine synthesis. Varying the concentrations
and availability of these compounds gives the host cell the ability to control and coordinate
Buchnera activity.
What Is The Role Of Coal Miners In The 1930 s
their conviction, it was the striking miners who negotiated with the coal operators. Dan Moar
represented the miners and was successful in signing a temporary agreement.

5.The coal miners were paid 25 cents for, every ton of coal that they dug, hand loaded on coal cars
and pushed to the main shaft. An experienced miner who worked hard during his 10 hour shift,
was given an opportunity to earn $1.60. The collection of rocks, clay and small sized coal reduced a
miner s pay. Miners were also forced to do extra work such as laying tracks, pumping water,
timbering and clearing roof falls that were not part of the pay.

6.The living conditions of the miners were worse in comparison to their work environments. Among
many, there were only two mines that had shower facilities for its workers. The miners and their
families referred the mine houses, as hovels in comparison to the village of Bienfait as they were
forced to live in them so as to maintain the status of a permanent employee that guaranteed work for
the miner. The houses were shacks with no lighting, insulation, or plumbing and were often infested

The timeline of the events that occurred before, during and after the Estevan strike of 1931:
In 1931, there were many people across Canada that were struggling through the Depression. In
Bienfait, Saskatchewan, coal miners were facing a similar struggle. At that time, the price of coal
was lower than it had been in recent years, and the mine workers were facing unsafe working
conditions and lower wages. As new strips of mine opened in Saskatchewan, many workers were
faced with a wage cut of up to 15 percent.
In July and August of 1931, groups of mine workers secretly gathered to discuss how to resolve
the concerns regarding unsafe working conditions, wage cuts and to how to form a local organization.
The miners appealed to the Trades and Labour Congress of Canada, anticipating that they would
help them establish a union, but their requests were

The Contributions Of Virgil s Death In The Aeneid
Virgil was regarded by the Romans as their greatest poet. Virgil never married, and was thought to
be a recluse, his life was that of a scholar. However, as his poetry won him fame, he gradually won
the friendship of many important men in Roman society. His last and most notable work was the
epic poem the Aeneid, where he strove to exhibit what he speculated as Rome s divine destiny. But,

named Aeneid after the destruction of Troy by the Greeks in the 12th century B.C. The poem

to its current reign by Augustus.
Though the poet preferred a country life, he maintained his acquaintance with prominent members
of Roman society where he possessed enormous influence on affairs of the state himself. In 19 B.C.
Virgil traveled to Greece where he planned on spending the next three years competing the Aeneid.
During his journey, he arrived at Brindisi Italy. It was rumored that on his deathbed Virgil requested
the destruction of Aeneid, possibly believing the work to be imperfect or no longer
Sony Music Entertainment Executive Summary
Sony Music Entertainment Executive Summary

Originally launched as American Record Company in 1929, Sony Music Entertainment Inc. has
since established itself as a leading manufacturer of video, audio, communications, and information
technology products.
In September 1976, the joint venture CBS/Sony Records Inc. presented the market with the
revolutionary compact disc (CD) and began producing the disc in America in 1983. After joining
Bertelsmann AG, Sony eventually acquired BMG s stake in 2008, and began functioning as a
wholly owned subsidiary. In July 2012, Sony/ATV Music Publishing purchased the publishing rights
of the EMI group, which strengthened Sony s position as the world s largest music publisher.
Sony s innovative approach and successful brand name, being associated with numerous motion
pictures, computer entertainment, music, television, and online businesses, makes Sony one of the
most successful, extensive entertainment and technology companies in the world.
Despite Sony Entertainment s success, due to a declining industry, Sony has been unable to sustain
their profit margins from previous years. After an in depth analysis of Sony Music Entertainment s
industry position and it s rival competitors , along with an assessment of their internal and external
environment, I have developed two recommendations that will increase Sony Music s long term
profitability in the digital music industry. The following recommendations, derived from the

Spinal Cord Injury Case Study
Question 1
The spinal cord has 31 spinal nerves that control most of our sensory and motor responses to a
stimulus. When it comes down to injuring the spinal cord, it is a serious matter because it leads to
a severe condition of being paralyzed. Both Paraplegic and Quadriplegic deals with a spinal cord
injury and both injuries lead to limited to no movement or sensory responses within certain areas of
the body.
Paraplegic refers to an injury below the waist. The spinal cord is injured below the neck which
allows motor or sensory impairment below the waist. When the spinal cord is injured below the

School lunch is the time when children eat at school every day when they attend school. Lunch at
school is what ensures that the children are getting at least some kind of nutrients because for some,
it may be the only meal that they are receiving and are able to eat. It is required that the schools feed
the children that attend there. It can be a topic of issue because of the many complaints about some
schools cooking unhealthy foods.
Some pros about school lunches is that they allow the student to receive good nutrients, they are
able to discover new things outside of their home cooked meals, and they are able to learn table
manners. Nutrients is a good thing for children because they are still growing. School lunches give
that to the students because that may be the only time for them to receive it. It also gives them a
chance to explore foods. Some schools change up the menu so that there can be a variety of choice
within the week. School lunches are able to teach children table manners because they are in a social
setting and are able to learn from one another. In addition, there are some cons when it comes to
school lunches also. One is that it may not be what the children want. That issue hinders the child to
not eat. Not eating causing many problems within children. Another reason is that the menu is not
flexible. There is only a limited amount of
For Whom The Bell Tolls Innocence
Many scholars can conclude that the path of war is the path of destruction. People lose their lives,
their homes, and their innocence to war. War may bring overall victory to one country, but to both,
it brings loss on many levels. The underlying theme of For Whom The Bell Tolls was a loss of
innocence and having to give up one s personal beliefs to war. Three characters who faced the
horrors of war were Maria, Joaquín, and Lieutenant Berrendo. In For Whom The Bell Tolls, Maria
was a beautiful girl who suffered tremendously during the war until she was finally rescued by
Pilar. Maria lost her innocence to the war when she witnessed her parents death and when she was
raped numerous times by soldiers. ...they shot her with my father...I saw both of them shot...
(Hemingway, 350). Maria then goes on to explain that after being humiliated by the soldiers, she is
taken to her father s office where she is raped. ...into the office of my father where they laid me
onto the couch. And it was there that the bad things were done (Hemingway, 353). Everything Maria
had faced from the war affected her deeply. At one point Maria explains her emotions by saying,...

Lieutenant Berrendo is mandated to have his men decapitate the guerillas after a battle. Berrendo
gives the order, and walks away from the field because, He did not wish to stay to see his orders
being carried out (Hemingway, 322). War was definitely something Lieutenant Berrendo did not
like because he often ...felt only the hollowness that comes from action (Hemingway, 326).
Berrendo believed that some of the actions that they had to take were not necessary. Even though
he knew that the heads of their enemies were necessary for proof and identification, Berrendo
believed the whole concept was barbarous. It was because of war that Lieutenant Berrendo was
forced to put his morals aside and do things he believed were not morally
Speech On The Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech is the right to communicate one s opinions and ideas. The term freedom of
expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking, receiving and
imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. Governments restrict speech with
varying limitations. Common limitations on speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography,
sedition, hate speech, incitement, fighting words, classified information, copyright violation, trade
secrets, non disclosure agreements, right to privacy, right to be forgotten, public security, public
order, public nuisance, campaign finance reform and oppression. Whether these limitations can be
justified under the harm principle depends upon whether influencing a third party s opinions or
actions adversely to the second party constitutes such harm or not. Governmental and other
compulsory organizations often have policies restricting the freedom of speech, for example,
speech codes at state schools. The term offense principle is also used to expand the range of free
speech limitations to prohibit forms of expression where they are considered offensive to society,
special interest groups or individuals. For example, freedom of speech is limited in many
jurisdictions to widely differing degrees by religious legal systems, religious offense or incitement
to ethnic or racial hatred laws. The right to freedom of expression is recognized as a human right
under article 19 of the Universal Declaration
