The Concept Of Core Competencies
Core Competencies The concept of core competencies since its first proposition by Prof Gary
Hamel in 1990 has been subject of intense study and interest for firms to deliver sustainable
competitive advantage (Gupta, 2013) Core competencies are the essence of what a company
does well. A business uses its core competencies to make and develop products, goods and
services according to its company mission. Core competencies are not easily replicated. They
usually come from years of experience and are stored in the collective knowledge base of the
company and its employees (Investopedia Stock Analysis, 2015). Core competencies are what
gives a company a clear advantage over that of its competitors, and is what is used to set the
company apart. Businesses have to know what it is they do well, if they want to stay competitive
in today s global marketplace. I do believe Bluestem is already focusing on its core competencies
and what it does well. Bluestem Brands, Inc. has gained a competitive edge in the retail industry by
providing quick in house credit to the consumers who browse their site who may not have any
money or credit available to them. By refining this process and focusing on it as one of their main
strengths, they now generate more revenue in the interest collected off of their credit accounts, than
on the merchandise being sold. Core Competencies Biblical Integration As Christians we have our
own set of core competencies and this competencies apply both to the
Comparing Plato s Republic, The Philosopher And Plato
In Plato s Republic, the philosopher is sitting having a discussion with his fellow peers and friends.
During this conversation each character except Plato offers their opening and reasoning on the
question, what is justice. For the majority of the book Plato outlines almost every aspect of his ideal
city. Within this city Platohas set up many rules in order for the city to remain just. All the way
from mating rituals to who should rule, virtually all factors have been thought of and serves a
specific purpose. One of the most important question that was raised in the book is, who is should
be the ruler of the city? Evidently Plato believes that it is the philosopher who is most fit to rule.
He reaches this conclusion after discussing a variety of factors that put philosophers above the rest,
Plato being a philosopher seems to be the most creditable in making this argument in The Republic.
In Plato s book, Adeimantus attempts to put dispute his claim. Not only him but philosopher and a
student of Plato, Aristotle does the same in his text as well. Aristotle emphasizes the importance of
the laws in his Ethics and Politics. He specifically implies that a ruler who is a philosopher rules by
judgment, not laws, and as a result the ruler will rule for himself and thus becomes a tyrant
(Nichomachean Ethics, V.6, 1134a). Both Plato and Aristotle give compelling arguments as to why
they think they are right on who should rule. Aristotle s claim is accurate, that in the long run
Sheree Whitfield
Sheree Whitfield and her ex husband Bob Whitfield may be getting back together, according to an
exclusive interview with Radar Online. When Sheree and Bob from Real Housewives of Atlanta
went on a trip to Jamaica together, they appeared to spend quite a bit of time together and they
flirted a lot. The rumors that their relationship is on agian may be true as the couple didshow
promise in that area in Jamaica.

Here s the thing, the previous relationship was so damaged,. Two adults, we wouldn t dare to
venture into a relationship, but we are exploring each other s company, I will say.

The couple divorced in 2007 before Sheree joined the cast of RHOA and rumors surrounded her
marriage back then that she married him for money. Sheree denies ... Show more content on

It was kind of a festive occasion and it was a bowling alley party. So now drinks are involved, jokes
are involved, different type of mood. So then it s like, Let s try breakfast... take it easy and just go
little bit by little.

This time, Sheree Whitfield and Bob Whitfield are not in a hurry. They are taking their time, and not
setting fires under each other to spark an argument. They steer clear from the things they know will
set the other person off.

It s almost like you just take your time with it because we ve been hanging around each other for a
long time, he explained. So we know little ways about each other, so how to maneuver. It s been
pretty cool. We ain t been playing bumper cars, smashing them up.

When the cast of Real Housewives of Atlanta went on their cast vacation, Bob came along. Their
relationship heated up as Bob made a play for her and he remembered back to how good she felt in
his arms and he wanted to pursue those feelings again.

Going to Jamaica was a challenge because you know I still act a fool getting in the sunshine and

The Nuclear Predicament
In recent times, the issue of sustainable energy has resurfaced frequently in politics. The current
popular energy sources used today include gasoline, coal, and other fossil fuels. These fossil fuels
pollute the environment and contribute to various harmful effects. This energy source has sustained
not only America, but also the entire world population for well over a century and has proven to
have a very high energy output. Despite this output, the supply of fossil fuels is finite and becoming
a rapidly depleted source. This is where various alternate energy sources begin to come into question.
Nuclear energy tends to have a negative connotation amongst many general populations, however it
could be the answer to this economic,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only a mere six years later, one of the largest meltdowns in history occurred at Chernobyl, because
the Soviet Union was so caught up in the ends they were not focused on the means. Unfortunately,
greed and time restraints were directly responsible for the inefficient and unstable production of
nuclear energy at Chernobyl, Ukraine. Now that these meltdowns have occurred in various areas of
the globe, amongst different populations, and with differentiating causality, experts have been able
to closer pinpoint the sources of the meltdowns. Roland Schenkel, of the European Commission,
proposes that new legally binding safety precautions are put into action with several international
peer reviews in areas concerning design safety, independence competence and functioning of
national regulators, and operational reactor safety (358). This proposal is one that many
governments are coming to terms with and have no problem following through with. Of course, the
field of nuclear energy is still relatively new compared to most other sources, and by far the most
complex method of obtaining energy. The changes in safety and regulation of these facilities will not
happen overnight, but it seems that precautions are taking a step in the right direction which leads to
a hopeful future for nuclear acceptance. Nuclear energy can fill in the absence of fossil fuels
Hydropower North Carolina
Hydropower is a critical need to North Carolina s energy sources, but how it s created is what
counts. For hydropower, water needs to have a strong current, preferably downwards. Without this
there would be no impact on the object that needs to be operated. Therefore, pressure must be
applied. Pressure is applied when a high amount of water pulled down by gravity makes an impact,
which can turn machines like water wheels and other energybuilt machines.
A more advanced version of hydropower is hydroelectric power. It is the electricity created by water.
For example, when the waterwheel receives water pressure, it begins to turn. Connected to a motor,
the wheel begins to generate energy. Eventually, the power is dished out and distributed

Abstract
This paper explores the experimental research method and specifically the experiment conducted by
Professor Smith, a Psychology professor who has a hypothesis that Vitamin E improves memory, to
determine the flaws in her experiment. In the process, the paper also clearly explains the various key
factors which determine the outcome and accuracy of the method of experimental research, such as
dependent variables, independent variables, experimental groups, and control groups. This paper
examines the factors that render Professor Smith s experiment as flawed, and finally attempts ...

This could easily have had a demoralizing effect on the mental state of the control group and an
encouraging effect on the experimental group, which would decrease the accuracy and validity of
her findings as other factors beside the independent variable could have affected the dependent
variable. Another flaw with her experimental design is the division of the experimental group and
the control group into two seperate sections, creating a social inequity, specially as the first half of
the students were allowed to sit in the front and the latter half were made to sit in the ramaining
half of the class in the back. This could have created a sense of expectancy in the experimental
group and compelled them to try harder, while the control group might have assumed they weren t
expected to do well and as a result not strive enough to succeed. According to Feldman and Dinardo
( 2012 ), one of the factors that distort how the independent variable affects the dependent variable in
an experiment is participant expectations. The participants in Professor Smith s experiment were
aware of their assigned groups, which could have raised or lowered their expectations, depending on
the group to which they were assigned. Finally, the flaw with Professor Smith s conclusion is that
the experiment was conducted to test her hypothesis that Vitamin E
Designing A Framework For Diagnosing Industry Structure
MACOM is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts, they sell and distribute products globally for
networking. They use semiconductor technologies for optical, wireless, and satellite networks.
Their products power infrastructure to increase speed and coverage of the mobile internet.
MACOM as sixty years of hands on experience, designing and building technologies from radio
frequency to light spectrum (MACOM, 2016). Michael Porter formed a basis that consists of five
forces of competition. These five forces are meant to be a framework for diagnosing industry
structure. Essentially, the idea is to explain the sustainability of profits against bargaining, and direct
and indirect competition. The five forces that shape the strategy are,... Show more content on

Rivalry among competitors relates to the threat of other like businesses. The more competitors that
have like products will determines the power of the company. Buyers are likely to shop around to
rival competitors if they cannot receive the deal they are looking for, and likewise suppliers look
for the company that will pay them the most for their products or services (Investopedia, 2016).
MACOM has three major competitors, Ciao Wireless, Satellink Inc., and Digi Key Corporation. Ciao
Wireless designs and manufactures radio frequency (RF) and Microwave Amplifiers for Defense and
Commercial Industries (MediaBrains, 2016). Their experience outnumbers MACOM by more than
400 years (creating a better brand identity), and they offer custom designs with delivery options.
Satellink Inc supports manufacturing of electronics for aerospace, telecommunications, and radar
industries (MediaBrains, 2016). MACOM also supports the aerospace industry along with other
telecommunications to delivery information globally, but Satellite keeps an inventory of essential
parts for rapid turnaround. This feature can help with fixed costs adding value to the customer. Digi
Key Corporation is a billion dollar company that provides electronic components for delivery
worldwide. They stock more than 500,000 products, and they feature them in a catalog along with
Nixon Exit Strategy In Vietnam Essay
The Vietnam War was a complex and contentious war, that the American people demanded an end to
and the return of American troops to native soil. Facing this complex problem, President Richard
Nixon had to devise a hasty exit strategy. This exit strategy known as Vietnamization was
controversial exit strategy and remains so to this day.
Following his inauguration, Nixon ordered the compilation of National Security Study
Memorandum (NSSM 1) titled Situation in Vietnam . The Nixon administration subsequently
devised policies to accelerate the transition of the lion s share of the defense of South Vietnam from
U.S. forces to South Vietnamese armed forces control. The plan centered on using a three phased
approach and established a timetable for withdraw as well as redefining the mission of U.S. troops
from defeating the enemy to providing maximum assistance. The first phase of the withdraw plan
centered on a steady transition of ground combat functions to South Vietnamese control. This phase
required extensive training of South Vietnamese forces. The second phase focused on building their
military capacity. Subsequently as a result, the South Vietnamese army had grown to be one of the

troops left Vietnam as scheduled followed by further withdraws in September, despite the fact that
the North Vietnamese had begun waging attacks, which should have, by Nixon s own policies
delayed any further withdraws. By November of 1972, approximately ninety five percent of U.S.
forces had returned stateside and forced the Vietnamese to take control of the war effort regardless
of their ability to do so. In December 1972, following the Christmas bombing and subsequent cease
fire agreement, the U.S. agreed to, within 60 days, remove all remaining U.S. forces from Vietnam.
By the end of March 1973, all U.S. forces had departed and ended U.S. military involvement in the

The Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon. Something creamy lay among the ferny
weeds.
A stone.
No. A shell. Suddenly Piggy was a bubble with decorous excitement. Page 18
I believe this quote in the Lord of the Flies was significant because it was about the discovery of the
conch shell. Without the conch shell, the boys may have never found each other throughout the
book making the quote significant. The conch shell also allowed the group of boys to discuss in a
proper matter. In the book, whoever held the conch shell was given the right to speak to prevent
everyone in the group speaking at the same time and causing confusion. The quote also showed
evidence about the setting. Since conch shells are found on beaches, it ... Show more content on

Jack likes to be the leader and is also quite arrogant so this quote describes his arrogant personality
because he states that the English are best at everything. It shows his leadership side as well
because it sounds like he wants to encourage the little kids into keeping rules and instill pride in

Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Should Not Be Drug Tested
Drug Testing Welfare Recipients
To test or not to test has been has been the question at hand for many states that are dealing with
whether or not to pass the law that welfare recipients should or should not be drug tested in order
to receive assistance from the government. Florida was the first state to mandate the law in 2011
and thereafter twenty four other states in the last year have also passed this law with our own state
of Oklahoma being one of them. Although alcohol is legal it is abused far more than marijuana or
hard core drugs, According to the 1996 study by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and
Alcoholism the differences between the proportion of welfare and non welfare recipients using
illegal drugs are statistically insignificant. Although some states have decided to pass the law for
welfare recipients in order receive government assistance, I believe it s ineffective to drug test these
welfare recipients in order to receive their benefits. Welfare in the United States commonly refers to
the federal government welfare programs that have been put in place to assist the unemployed or
underemployed. Help is extended to the poor through a variety of government welfare programs that
include the Women, Infants, and Children Program which is referred to as WIC, Medicaid, and
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families commonly known as TANF and Aid to Families with
Dependent Children.
Drug testing welfare recipients is negative because drug tests performed on
Emotional Intelligence
The Five Competencies of Emotion Intelligence
With the publication of Daniel Goleman s book Emotional Intelligence in 1995, the business world
got an answer to a question that had been plaguing it for decades: Why did some people of a high
IQ struggle at managing teams while other leaders of lower IQ excel at it ? Goleman asserted that
the traditional measurement of IQ (intelligence quotient) was not enough to determine a good leader.
Schools and universities concentrated on developing the cognitive and analytical part of the brain,
while the teaching of how the emotional side of the brain worked was ignored. Goleman defined this
emotional intelligence of a human being as a set of competencies that distinguish how one manages

Few workers would want to follow a passionless leader. However, if that same passion blinds the
decision making process to the point of failure, than passion obviously went from good to bad. As
excess anger can be one of the most destructive of all emotions, Goleman spends a good deal of
time speaking to it. He quotes Benjamin Franklin: Anger is never without a reason, but seldom a
good one . He speaks to the folly of trying to prevent anger and focuses on techniques to diffuse it
before it becomes personally or career damaging.
Anger in a business setting can cause one to act inappropriately or unwisely by blowing an
incident out of proportion and possibly irrevocably damaging a career. Learning that at any
moment we have the ability to consciously control our anger is empowering but not that easy to
accomplish. Goleman asserts the body s chemical reaction to stressful situations, relating back to
our ancient ancestors, is the reason for this difficulty. The introduction of hormones into the body
is not a gradual elevation, but a quick release relating back to our basic fight or flight response to
environmental dangers. Every day, hormones are incrementally released into the body with each
passing taxing stressful episode until a level is reached that triggers anger. He offers two weapons
against anger outbursts. The first is method is to recognize, as early as possible, what is triggering
the anger. This disruption of the anger
