Ethical Dilemma And Moral Dilemma
GNED 212 Jorawar Singh 30877727 Section 004 Date/Time of Class Wednesday 3:30 PM Part 1
Ethical/Moral Dilemma: Defination Ethical dilemma or moral dilemma is a scenario in which a
person has to make choices/decisions depending on the situation or by keeping the net happiness
in his mind. He also thinks about the consequences of the decision he will make. In this scenario,
I will be describing an ethical dilemma that I faced when I worked with an IT firm. My team
leader was stealing from the company. He used to steal the network cable and other networking
tools from the company storage unit. I started to dig this matter and I came to know that after
stealing, he was selling that tools into local market. It was his side business and he was earning
pretty good. But one day, there was a surprise inventory check conducted by our manager. In that
report a huge amount of losses were there. So a notice was issued to all employee regarding the
inside stealing and we were asked to give the other person name and our name would be not
disclosed. At that point of time I faced an ethical dilemma, whether to give the name of my team
leader with a fear of losing my job or whether to keep quiet and let him steal more stuff till no one
catches him. Part 2 Philosophical model: To solve my ethical dilemma, I will be using Deontology
as my philosophical model. Deontology is a Greek word originated from Deon meaning obligation
/morality or duty. It is
Italian Immigration to America
From 1890 to 1915 estimated around 4 million Italians arrived in the United States. Majority being
from 1900 to 1914. Once they arrived in America, immigrants faced difficult challenges. Most of
the time not even knowing the English language and also having very little education. Many of the
new immigrants were forced to accept the lowest paying and hellish jobs. Sometimes were often
forced by the average man who acted like they were slaves. Most of the immigrants found homes in
the older sections of the big northeastern coastal cities. Later became known as the Little Italys most
of the time being overcrowded average homes, which had terrible living condition with bad lighting
and poor heating in the winter. Tuberculosis was one of the constant health problems for the
immigrant families that were forced on by economic circumstances to live in these homes. Other
immigrant families lived in small homes which was even more common in areas outside of the big
northeastern cities.
The Italian immigration of 1880 caused the economy in southern Italy and Sicily to decrease. Due to
over taxation on the southern part of Italy making the situation nearly impossible for most tenant
farmers, and small business. Multitudes chose to migrate rather than try to make out a bad life. Most
of the time the father and sometimes the oldest son would go before the whole family. Leaving the
mother and the rest of the family behind until the father and son could afford their passage.

Middle East Women

Women of the Middle East The women of the Middle East are very interesting to look in to. They
are not just another person or treated by the same standards like they are treated here in the United
States. There is a lot of controversy and fighting for women s rights throughout the Middle East.
They have an extreme lack of power there and they are fighting to change that. It is not right that
women are such inferior people over there because they are no different than any other female in
this world. Sexism plays a big role in the Middle East and the women are getting sick of putting up
with this treatment. This is a big part of what I will be looking into in the research paper: What kind

Another influential woman in the history of the Middle East was Shajarat al Durr. She firmly
established the Mamluk dynasty that would ultimately repulse the Mongols, expel the European
Crusaders from the Holy Land, and remain the most powerful political force in the Middle East
until the coming of the Ottomans (Wise Muslim Women). Some other female political figures over
time in the Middle East are the Sultanate of Women in the Ottoman Empire during the seventeenth
century was a period when several women had enormous power over affairs of the state (Global
Connections). Today there is a small, but growing number of women in the parliaments of Turkey,
Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon (Global Connections). In Morocco women have secured 60 out of 395
seats, which may not sound like much, but that is fifteen percent of Parliament (Basch Harod). The
women s movement campaign s goal was to secure thirty percent of Parliament, but fifteen percent
is a respectable start (Basch Harod). It is encouraging to see that women are making a difference
today as well. Although their contributions may not be the greatest, it s great to see they are at least
getting their foot in the door. These are just a few political leaders throughout time. This shows that
women have the ability to gain power in the Middle East if they are put in the right situation. Not
only were there some influential political leaders that were women, but
Historical Events Portrayed During War Films
Historians do not agree with historical events portrayed in war films because films don t always
portray the facts. For this reason, historians might discredit the film but it s not Hollywood s job to
inform or tell the truth. Hollywood is the business of entertainment that fulfills the fantasies that
people want to see. Through films the audience gets the feelings and understanding of a historical
time period, plus satisfaction of entertainment. The director s give their point of view mixed with
drama and understanding of the account of history. Even though feature films aren t all facts, they
should still be credited because they portray the emotions of a historical time period.

The combat felt as real as it could be.
Many war veterans thought they can relate to Platoon as it showed wars brutality and carnage.
Which resembled most of the realities of the being in the Vietnam War. For example, in one of the
scenes of Platoon American soldiers stormed a civilian population Vietnamese village and burned it
to the ground. Charlie Sheen, who resembled as Stones cinematic image, tormented a Vietnamese
civilian by shooting at his feet and telling him to dance. After that, one of the characters named
bunny brutally murdered the farmer with his butt stock of his rifle. The brains of the victim started
pouring out of his crushed skull. American soldiers were interrogating and slaughtering the
inhabitants like barbarians, some even tried raping a peasant girl. This scene we see unfolding
before us is My Lai...in the making...a context that closely mirrored the Vietnam experience of many
American GIs (Davidson Lytle p443). In reality this event was marked as the My Lai massacre in
which many women and innocent infants were killed by the US army soldiers of Charlie
Company . Although, the scene is altered and does not show what exactly happened at My Lai, its
Stones version and point of view of how the event at My Lai happened. It should not be discredited
because it still gives an understanding and account of history to the viewers.

Flaws Of Utilitarianism
English philosopher and social critic Jeremy Bentham argues that happiness and pleasure is what
should be aimed for in life based off his theory of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is defined as the
belief that actions are right if it promotes happiness or pleasure. Identifying an action as wrong or
right depends on the amount of happiness or unhappiness an individual expresses from the action
that takes place.
To understand this theory, let us look at an example otherwise known as the Trolley Problem. The
Trolley Problem is a concerning situation where a loose trolley is flying through a singular straight
track until reaching a fork. In total there are six people tied to the railway tracks. There s one person
on one side and five people on the other. There is lever that can ... Show more content on

Utilitarianism is primarily nonpartisan which at first seems like a utopian mindset in comparison to
the world today, but at deeper thought it gets increasingly more disturbing. Like the example stated
earlier, it would be terrible to have to choose between your mother or a stranger in a dire situation.
However, emotional connection has no meaning in this ideology. The theory also has a flaw with
outcomes always justifying the means. This means that it doesn t matter how one achieves
happiness or pleasure, as long as it s the final outcome. For example, the Black Plague was a
terrible epidemic to have crossed the nation, but the outcomes, such as the decrease in
overpopulation and the advancements in medicine, made it seem like it was what needed because
of the positive results. Lastly, this theory has a knack for lacking in rights meaning if the majority
does not care for a minority and wants to kick them out of a certain location, Utilitarianism will
defend the majority since it will have the highest amount of happiness or pleasure. Though
Utilitarianism has many controversial factors, it also has respectable points as

However, it still involves showing respect for one s guests, providing for their needs, and treating
them as equals. Cultures and subcultures vary in the extent to which one is expected to show
hospitality to strangers, as opposed to personal friends or members of one s in group.
The hospitality service industry includes hotels, casinos, and resorts, which offer comfort and
guidance to strangers, but only as part of a business relationship. The terms hospital, hospice, and
hostel also derive from hospitality, and these institutions preserve more of the connotation of
personal care.
Hospitality ethics is a discipline that studies this usage of hospitality.
In the western context, with its dynamic tension between Athens and Jerusalem, two phases can be
distinguished with a very progressive transition: a hospitality based on an individually felt sense of
duty, and one based on official institutions for organized but anonymous social services: special
places for particular types of strangers such as the poor, orphan(s), ill, alien, criminal, etc. Perhaps
this progressive institutionalization can be aligned to the transition between Middle Ages and
Renaissance (Ivan Illich, The Rivers North of the Future). An example of Hospitality would be I m
going to get you a pillow and make you feel real good. This is showing the guest hospitality

Theoretical Perspectives On Lifespan Development
Emily Dickinson (n.d.) once said, The brain is wider than the sky . This quote was made evident
by the text written on the six theoretical perspectives on life span development. These perspectives
include psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, contextual and evolutionary. The
writing prompt gave one the image of a sweet 12 year old girl in the seventh grade having
difficulties with math. This exercise will allow one to dive deep into the depth of the perspectives
and the limitations to explain Alice s behavior. Robert Feldman (2014) describes the
psychodynamic perspective as behavior that is driven by, inner forces, memories, and conflicts .
The ability to succeed is pounded into humans since the day they are born. However, it is just as
easy to give in to defeat. Alice s inner... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socially speaking the mother most likely mentioned to Alice that she wasn t great at math when
she was young as too. In Alice s social world it was made known that math was difficult and that
studying for something challenging was futile. Finally, Feldman suggests that the evolutionary
perspective is the theory that seeks to identify behavior that is a result of our genetic inheritance
from our ancestors . This perspective would be noted as the fact that the mother had struggled in
math as well. While the ability to add and subtract most likely isn t encoded into one s DNA the
mother daughter thought processes could be similar. In conclusion, the idea that Emily Dickinson
(n.d) noted about the brain being wider than the sky was made evident during this analysis. The six
theoretical perspectives of development allow one to pick apart why Alice, the 12 year old girl,
may have struggled with her math. In doing so one may gain a greater understanding of not only
Alice, but themselves as

Coco Chanel created a fashion that began to grow rapidly in the 1920 s. She created suits and
dresses for women and they became very popular and still are today. Another person that
impacted design in the 1920 s was Thomas W. Lamb. He was known as a famous theater and
cinema designer. For example, Thomas W. Lamb was known for designing hundreds of theaters
and later known as the king of theaters (Gray). Thomas helped to design movie theaters and this
sparked an impact on the 20th century. Many people enjoyed and took advantage of how much of
an impact people, like Coco and Thomas, had on the 1920 s. If it wasn t for people like them, we
wouldn t have movie theaters and a cute fashion for women today.

Among many other things, art began to flourish and change during this era. One 1920 s décor critic
stated, The Art Deco Movement influenced the way that buildings were erected and clothes were
made (Modras). Art was such a major aspect during the 1920 s that it changed the way architects
were expected to design buildings. This created a new perspective on the way houses and major
buildings were looked at. In fact, these buildings were no longer just used for practical purposes
but were now created to be pleasing to the eye. In addition, in The Great Gatsby Nick notes, Gatsby s
house is also a very lavish building (Fitzgerald 14). Gatsby s
