Assignment Questions On Organizational Change
Week 5 Final Assignment: Organizational Change
Jeremy Gunn
MGT/435
Eugene Kaufman
08/25/2014

When it comes to organizations, change is constantly occuring. Managers are accountable for
preparing the business, in addition to helping the employees cope with the change. The purpose of
this paper is to highlight an organization and to diagnose the need for change and present a plan to
transform the company, using Kotter s 8 Step Approach. The following topics will be covered in this
paper, company overview, diagnosis, Kotter s 8 Step Approach, and Conclusion.

Company Overview The company researched for the purpose of this paper is McDonald s. This
company s history dates back since 1940 when Mac and Dick McDonald initially opened McDonald
s BBQ restaurant located in San Bernardino, CA. In 1948 they shut down the restaurant, just to
reopen it as a self service drive in restaurant. According to About McDonald s (2012), their menu
included only 9 items, such as: milk, coffee, soft drinks, cheeseburger, hamburger, potato chips, and
a slice of pie. Potato chips were then replaced by French fries. The history of this company is
significantly market by Ray Kroc, who in 1954 at a visit to McDonald s in San Bernardino
decides to have a franchise of McDonald s. A year later, in 1955, he opens his first restaurant in
Des Plaines, Illinois. The franchising plan allowed growth and by 1965 there were more than 700
restaurants across United States. McDonald s
The Importance Of Life In The Nursing Home
Anna Mae Halgrim Seaver felt powerless. The words she used to describe the nursing home
facility and her treatment forced me to imagine myself in a nursing home. I have never
experienced what Ms. Seaver went through, and I can assume that no nursing home facility has
experienced it either. Above all, the main thing that could have been done to make her life more
tolerable is educating the staff members of the facility and staff members in general in the health
care field on what it is like to live in a nursing care facility. Imagine living the majority of your life
as a teacher with a degree in music, or the founder of a multimillion dollar company, imagine having
individuals learn from you and respect you throughout your life and then suddenly have that taken
away. Educating staff on the importance of upholding respect for patients is important, we need to
make every patient feel safe and being respectful plays a large part in doing so.

The attitude towards her placement in the nursing home is more of a sad acceptance. Ms. Seaver
understands she is getting older and that with aging you may lose control over your bowels or be
unable to walk because your bones become a little weaker over time, but her mind is still there, yet
she is treated as if she has lost it. Ms. Seaver accepts why she has been placed in a nursing home
but she is incredibly unhappy that her independence and privacy has been taken away.

I m not entirely sure if her family had other options.

Literary Theme Of Self Identity Essay
In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee writes, before I can live with other folks I ve got to live
with myself. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a person s conscience (Lee, 108).
As displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many others, the literary theme of selfidentitycoupled
with coming of age has been a long running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this
theme in novels such as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The
development of character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist. Between Tides
follows Pierre Landu, a black Catholic Priestand revolutionist, on a journey to right his wrongs
through rigorous self examination. Pierre, having rejected his African ancestry during adolescence,
in attempts to integrate into the Catholic Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the priesthood
during his adult years. In attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a revolutionist
movement to deconstruct colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the tumultuous
discovery of self, Pierre recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering himself or
Africa. Similarly, Shadows of Your Black Memory, is largely about a young boy s journey into
adulthood. Shadows is retold through the memory of the adult version of the young boy. Unlike
Pierre, the Narrator, who is never a given a name is strikingly aware of the cultural and social
parallels in which his
Skate Skis
The skate ski has a single camber. Compared to the classic ski the skate ski does not have a grip
zone beneath the middle of the ski, but has a stiff camber. The entire base of the skate ski is a glide
zone for the ski to move smoothly and continuously in snow. Because of the stiffness of the camber
the skate skihas less flexibility than the classic ski. To determine the ski fit for skate skis it
requires a different test than classic skis. If the skate skis does not have enough camber, then the
skis are too soft. When the skier applies his weight to the skis, the entire bottom of the ski flattens.
This causes a lot of pressure that is being applied in the center of the skis. With all this pressure
under the foot of the skier the ski becomes unpredictable and erratic. However, if the skis have too
much camber, the ski are too stiff... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SNS Pilot for skate skis and a 3 pin binding for light backcountry skis.

NNN technology has come up with a was of connecting the binding on the ski directly and can
easily be removed without using screws. The system is composed of a heel plate and front
binding. All NNN boots will fit with Nordic Binding System (SIN). Also a SNS binding can be
installed onto the ski that has a NIS heel plate. The heel plate can be used to adjust boot sizes and
the front binding can be used to adjust five different positions on the ski.

There are five different types of binding that are compatible with cross country ski boots for
skiing: NNN binding for both classic and skate boots, NNN BC binding for backcontry boots, NN
(three pin) binding for both backcountry and light touring boots, SNS Porfil binding for both Skate
and Classic boots, and SNS Pilot binding for skating boots. Also, choosing a proper ski boot for
performance depends on the size, stiffness, shell, and boot last
What Is Siddhartha s Journey
In his novel Siddhartha, Herman Hesse focuses on a growing boy and his journey through life to
find himself. The story follows Siddhartha as he transitions through several contrasting lifestyles
and religious practices in search of peace and happiness. However, the path Siddhartha chooses has
many obstacles, and he feels lost numerous times along the way. Hesse constructs the work in this
way to convey that no matter what path one chooses in life, if one has patience and makes the best
out of every day, that person will find the peace that everyone searches for. He uses Siddharthaas a
symbol that all things happen for a reason and every person can choose where their life will lead.

Hesse uses many different lifestyle and religious scenarios to shape how Siddhartha advances
through life. The purpose of the work is to convey to the reader that there is no need to worry
about where his or her life will go. No matter what path one chooses, one will eventually find peace
and happiness. Hesse also wants the reader to know that there is nothing wrong with seeing
problems and making changes in life and that one should fight for what he or she wants. Siddhartha
makes the reader wonder about whether they are truly happy with their life and anything they could

Human Behavior Simulation For Complex Scenarios Involving...
Modeling and simulation as a body of knowledge provide a basis to build and execute
approximations of a real world system. Being termed as an efficient decision support system,
modeling and simulation is able to understand and provide better solutions to the problems in various
domains. It is also capable to predict and plan the future, mitigate risks, enhance the system
performance and so on. Primarily, this modeling and simulation has emerged beyond manual
methods of construction and execution of models to computer based tools. Besides this, most of the
ecological economics depend on the human behavior. The aim of this paper is to improve the
human behavior simulation with the help of research ideas from psychology to influence various
aspects of system design. The accurate simulation of human behavior is applicable in different areas
such as films, architecture, gaming and so on. The human behavior models are strongly dependent
on scenario evolution and decisions. This paper also focuses in developing a scenario and realistic
case study to be applied in the human behavior simulation for complex scenarios involving coalition
operations. To accomplish this purpose it the intelligent agents are used for initiating interactions
among local population, groups, forces. The presented modeling approach considers the complex
interactions among many variables and resulting effects of the decisions. The Modeling and
Simulation is a consolidated technique for addressing complex
How Does Social Media Affect The Performance Of The Music...
In the midst of the United States dot com bubble (years 1997 2000), there was a surge in technology
that brought about file sharing and digital downloads. Threatening the survival of the music industry
and introducing a unique set of challenges for the industry to overcome. To remain relevant in the
new global market of digital music online, the music industry would have to evolve and change with
the introduction of each new facet technology had to offer. The introduction of digitally compressed
music files, so easily attainable for a small fee or downloaded legally (pirated) for free, made the
music industry reevaluate how to make a profit and protect copyrights. Social media created a visible
opportunity for both consumers and artists to maintain digital relationships while providing a
platform for consumers to follow and discover new musicians and bands, naturally, making the
internet a promotional medium for artists. As the corner record shops closed to make way for virtual
storefronts and instant downloads; the internet, digital downloading, and social media made an
enormous impact on the music industry that has changed the way consumers purchase, source, listen
to, and produce music today.
The development of affordable technology in conjunction with the introduction of the internet,
shifted the consumer market, by way of downloads and file sharing. Technological advancements led
to the compression of music into the MP3 format, thus allowing consumers to download
John F. Kennedy s Early Life

more money and to show his children that no matter what the world is like there is room to better
oneself. To my own personal interest Kennedy is the most peaceful president that we have ever
encountered. He wanted to pull out all the troops and try to better the world for the up and coming
generations. Kennedy with his new thought out ideas became a very important and popular
politician. Kennedy later convinced him that he should run for congressional opportunities in
Massachusetts. Kennedy took him up on that offer and opinion to later figure out it was one of the
most important decisions he s ever made. He was nominated as a candidate for president of the
Democratic Party on July 13th, 1960. Later in the general elections Kennedy defeated the republican
vice president Nixon but, it was a very close
Film Analysis Pocahontas Essay
Film Analysis: Pocahontas
The animated Walt Disney movie Pocahontas is based on a true life story of a young Powhatan
Indian girl named Pocahontas who falls in love with John Smith. In the making of the movie, Walt
Disney, attempts to relate to the early 17th Century historic event of Europeans settling in
Jamestown; however, Disney did not portrait the true story. Disney rewrote the story by making it a
beautifully romantic and animated love story like a Cinderella fairytale.

He started scouting around and began drawing maps immediately. He met Pocahontas by almost
shooting her by a water fall, and later they fell in love. He was captured later in the movie while
venturing out alone at night to meet Pocahontas. John Smith was going to be executed on top of a
rock at dawn, in front of an army of colonists who planned to rescue him. In reality, John smith was
arrested and chained in irons during the voyage over, and he was released a month after arriving to
Jamestown, Virginia. After he was set free, he did a lot of exploring and trading with the Indians.
John Smith mapped most of the Jamestown area. He was eventually captured while seeking food
along the Chickahominy River. John Smith was brought to Chief Powhatan and was sentenced to be
executed. This is when he actually met Matoaka, the real name of Pocahontas, and she rescued him
from execution. Matoake was the oldest daughter of Chief Powhatan. John Smith became good
friends with Matoake, and eventually Chief Powhatan adopted Smith as his son. (Squidoo, Inc., 2012)
According to history, despite the fact that Pocahontas is most famous for saving the life of John
Smith, she never marries him. Smith returns to find the situation at the fort desperate. They are
running out of food and only 38 of the original 105 Colonists are alive. Smith was accused of
causing the deaths of his men. He was overthrown from his position and almost condemned to hang.

Challenges confronting small scale farmers Why do we eat? We eat to get energy. Food is
essential for our well being to foster growth and development. A healthy living is said to start

The Severity Of De-Icing In Airports
In winter, the snow can be a hassle but the ice is what can be more challenging. Imagine how
challenging it can be for an airport when dealing with the ice on not only the tarmacs but the
planes as well. Airports have been using the same de icing method for a while now, but it is not
the most efficient way out there, nor is it the cheapest. There are a few reasons why aircrafts must
be de iced before take off in order to ensure that the aircraft is safe to fly. The current solution to de
ice an aircraft is inefficient and rather expensive, while there is a much better way to complete the
process. Who wouldn t want their airport to run smoother and have flights in and out quicker? De

It is one of the top entry points to North America, and with that being said, one would assume they
will need to be efficient, cost effective, and fast in almost everything that they do; which they are.
Right down to the small detail that often goes unnoticed of de icing an aircraft. At JFK they have
bought into a new system, a much better system. This system uses infrared technology to heat the
airplane before takeoff, Designed and built by Radiant Aviation Services, a US based wholly
owned subsidiary of the Canadian company Radiant Energy Corporation, the patented InfraTek
system relies almost entirely on IR, which lies just to the right of the visible spectrum, to deice
aircraft (In text citation author year). The process is quite simple, taxi the airplane to what seems
to be a big open hanger, and sit there for a little bit until they are cleared for takeoff and the ice
has melted. The program has had times noted of ranging between 28 minutes to 43 minutes for a
full block, which is the time from brakes on the brake off (boarding to takeoff). Comparing that to
the hour or hour and a half it takes to de ice a plane in the conventional way, this seems like a
better system already just based on the amount of time it takes to do the job. Toronto Pearson has
rivalled that by building a massive de icing facility where they can de ice 11 planes at once, and have

A National Counter Intelligence ( Ci ) Strategy
Three of the potential roadblocks associated with the implementation of a National Counter
Intelligence (CI) strategy that I believe are the most important rest within resources, information
and risk, outlined in Michelle Van Cleave s article Strategic Counterintelligence What Is It and
What Should We Do about It? The idea of a national level effort is not a new idea. The National
Security Act of 1947 provided basis of our intelligenceand CI functions. DoD naturally took the
mission of CI activity which fit within the DoD scope. Up and until the 1980s a series of failures
within the CI world, such as the failed hostage rescue in 1980 helped to place emphasis on the lack
of coordination between DoD services. A new definition of CI was... Show more content on

The FBI along with other government agencies created a separate counterterrorism group called the
National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC). December 28, 2000 saw the creation of the National
Counterintelligence Executive (NCIX) appointment by the President Bill Clinton in response to CIA
mole Aldrich Ames. Initially the NCIX was to set policy for counterintelligence in areas of
counterespionage, information security and critical infrastructure protection. It was in this
position that Michelle Van Cleave as the National CI Executive outlined the need for a national
level system. A system that could coordinate and strategically apply a CI mission against a
foreign threat in a unified cohesive manner. The road blocks that Michelle Van Cleave outlined,
show a common issue within the U.S. government and also a picture of the CI effort in its
essence of trying to overcome an ever existing problem with expounded complexities. Michelle
Van Cleave wants to take CI to a clearer objective in the offensive realm of CI. To take the efforts
to the foreign state rather than waiting to react to the foreign state acting in the U.S. Within
Michelle Van Cleave s writing there is a strong sense given that we have a sharp tool to use, but
we have not taken full advantage of its capabilities. The use of CI provides a power to take
advantage of the opponent s
