The effect of television on a childs attention span
In watching my 13 year old daughter, and constantly trying to get her to complete the simplest of
tasks such as loading the dishwasher. I have often wondered if watching too much television has
anything to do with her inability to complete the smallest of tasks. Some people think that children
who watch too much television are likely to develop ADHD; however, it may be the opposite. The
child who is prone to Attention problems may be drawn to watching television to sooth their minds
(New Scientist, 2007).

We should ask ourselves, are the parts divided fairly equally? They go on to say, Do screens eat up
most of the hours outside of school or daycare? (Finkelstein Roberts, 2004). One way to ensure that
our children are not spending too much time in front of the television to try implementing No
television on the weekend (Finkelstein Roberts, 2004) , use that time to plan other fun, exciting, and
educational activities that both you and your child will enjoy. You will not only create a learning
experience you will be building fond memories that you and your child will hold dear for years to
come.
We all know how television advertisers target children. We all need to recognize the effect that
comecercials have on our children. Commercial are there for a reason, to sell you something
(Finkelstein Roberts, 2004). It is our responsibility as parents to keep commercials in their place.
Have you ever been in the middle of Wal Mart and had your child come up to you grasping the
newest toy between their fists asking you, mommy please, please can I have it? I have been their
on numerous occasions. Just to have my daughter throw a tantrum when I told her no sweetie not

Applying A Cellular Tower On The Proposed Site
sole authority to grant or deny the special use permit to allow them to construct a cellular tower
on the proposed site. The Board of County Commissioners, sitting as the Zoning Board of
Appeals, has the authority to approve the zoning variance. The zoning variance will be presented
to the Board in December if the special use permit is approved. Ms. Wallingford Ingo stated a
notion was made in the recommendation section of staff s review. She stated there is a process that
requires a telecommunications carrier to co locate on other towers before applying for a new
special use permit for a tower. A telecommunications tower cannot be built in excess of the
maximum height limitation imposed within a specific zone. As a matter of clarification, Mr. Powell
has indicated that they have placed this tower where the County directed them to do so. She had
several conversations over the duration of three to four months with one of Mr. Powell s colleagues
relative to the location of the proposed tower and staff s concerns relative to the placement of such.
When the applicant submitted the special use permit application, the zoningmaps indicated the
proposed site was in the A 2 Zone District. Upon review of the application, it was determined that
the zone district line on the digital map, which are not the official zoning maps, was A 3. This is
when the height limitation came into effect. The initial analysis of the placement of the facility was
based on a zone district
The Legal Action For Negligence Against Jimmy Farnham And...
Answer A
The major shareholder might not be successful in the legal action for negligence against Jimmy
Farnham. This is because the audit firm was not under a contract agreement with the major
shareholder, and the fact that the major shareholder can be considered a third party in the contract
between Jimmy Farnham and Aussie Outback Tours Ltd. The law is not definitively clear on the
auditor s liability to third parties (Porter, Ó hÓgartaigh Baskerville, 2012). An auditor owes a duty
of care to their direct client, and any damages incurred by the client due to negligence on the part
of the auditor makes the auditor liable in terms of contract and also in tort (Nguyen Rajapakse,
2008). A claim of liability by a third party to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had advised the client to assign the review and evaluation of the new database to an independent
contractor. The fact that Jimmy was not familiar with the new system of accounting that the client
was implementing and therefore not involved in the changeover process absolves him and his audit
firm from direct liability. It is also hard to prove that the error in material inventory that resulted from
the changeover was committed when Jimmy was auditing the firm or at the instance of feeding the
data into the system. Admittance to liability is also dependent on whether the auditor had placed
disclaimers of responsibility in the preparation of the audit reports.
The criteria for the determination of the auditor s liability to other parties apart from the clients are
as follows:
The defendant must have reasonably foreseen that the statements would be put to use by the plaintiff
A relevant degree of proximity must exist between the parties involved in the litigation
The imposition of a duty for care by the plaintiff on the defendant must be just and reasonable
(Davies, 1991; ACCA, 2009).
There is no evidence presented in the case above to the effect that the defendant was aware of the
likelihood of the judgements he made being used as a basis to make judgement by the plaintiff. The
plaintiff also has a hard tasks of proving that there was a close proximity between them and
Speech On Animal Cruelty
Animal Cruelty
Something that I haven t consider is how the way they kill the animals to get the meat. And how
they are treated. They should at least not kill them like that. It horrible the way they do. They are
not thinking what pain and suffer the animals go through when they are killing them savagely. And
how they treat them is no way any human should be treating an animal. They should really consider
other ways of doing it but not in a savagely way.
When chickens are put in cages they are all being stuffed together and they can even stretch out
their wings or even some of them don t even get to see the sun of light or even smell fresh air from
outside because they are all in cages. When they get them out, some farmers throw them around until
they are dead. They will bash their heads with their cages. Or some of the farmers will slice their
throat. When they kill a baby chicken, they don t even let them grow. Ones they are hatch they get
killed. Some of the farmers throw the chickens all together in a bag so they could suffocate or they
will throw them into a machine so they could be killed. It s horrible because they take them away
from their mother when they hatch. When the cows are killed it is horrible they put them a machine
that spins them around and then they slice their throat. They re still alive when they throw them and
live them to die. You could hear them suffering. They don t even bother cleaning up after them they
just leave them all together. Some
Alvin Ailey And The Civil Rights Movement
Alvin Ailey was a phenomenal choreographer, dancer, and activist whose work focused on the
narrative of the African American during the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement.
Informed and inspired by black church services, gospel music, and everything spiritual, the
collaborations between him and Duke Ellingtoncome as no surprise. Ellington s career also focused
on depicting the character and mood and feeling of [his] people , except he executed this artistry
through musicianship in composing, conducting, songwriting, and bandleading. Together, they were
both able to uplift and celebrate the Black American and their rich culture, during a time of trauma
and the unforgivable horrors of slavery, meanwhile revolutionizing and... Show more content on

The amount of respect and willingness that these artists carried created environments of conceptual
safety wherever they went, which is what truly allowed their art to become as compelling as it is.
The two were also fortunate and successful enough to be able to travel globally, which certainly
enabled even more space for artistic growth and evolution. The two both shared a love of
exploring the tempo of life in foreign countries, to savor the various foods, arts, and music of
native people. Ellington had the upper hand in travels since he began performing a bit earlier than
Ailey did, but I do believe that his travels to Europe and North Africa definitely catalyzed the
creative push it took to create The River. Traveling is the best thing anyone can do for themselves,
but it s that much more essential for an artist to do too. Ellington was one of the first to introduce
Spanish spice into jazz and does so within this composition, presented primarily within the
introduction of the ever playful french horn. Because this is still very much a ballet piece, this
playfulness is also apparent within the wafting woodwinds, and through the percussive
instrumentation of what might be the glockenspiel. Seeing as this was Ellington s first composition
of symphonic scale, the variety of sounds and moods is extensive, and its complexity would
otherwise might not have been as thorough had he not traveled as much as he did. Shortly afterwards
in 1971, Ailey choreographed
Essay on Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
Magic in The Descent of Innana and Sappho
In the ancient text The Descent of Innana and the lyric poetry of Sappho, language is viewed as
magic. Not only are the words themselves acting as magic, as in an invocation, but other things
manifest themselves as magic throughout the works. The most common throughout the works of
Sappho is that of love. Sappho also shows us the magic of everyday life in many of her poems.
Finally, the writing down of the works performs a magic all of its own; the magic of continuation.
Through the writing of their works the story of Innana and the poetry of Sappho will live on
forever. The most obvious use of language as magic is in The Descent of Innana. This text is
actually all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem You know the place: then , Sappho invokes the Goddess Aphrodite. She does this by
calling out to the goddess and naming the place she wishes for Aphrodite to appear. Leave Crete
and come to us / waiting where the grove is / pleasantest, by precincts / sacred to you; incense
/ smokes on the altar... ( lines 2 6). This shows how words were believed to hold the power to
persuade a god or goddess. The hope was that, if the offering of poetry was beautiful enough, then
the god would grant the request of the poet. This is not the only form of magic that words held for
the ancient Greeks.
In another poem that Sappho wrote, A Prayer to Aphrodite , Sappho describes anguished love.
Sappho desires nothing more then to have this unrequited love returned to her arms. In this poem
the magic of language calls Aphrodite forth and inspires her to do Sappho a favor. It inspires the
goddess to give Sappho the power to bring this person back to the glittering net of her arms (19).
This shows Sappho s true desire to harness the power of love through the magic of language. If she
can only write this poem beautiful enough then Aphrodite will take pity on her and give her what she
most wants.
What s the secret wish of your crazy, wild heart? / Whom must Love compel with Her wily ruses
/ back into the glittering net of your arms? / Sappho, who hurts you? (17 20). This is what Sappho
wishes to hear from Aphrodite. The power and beauty
The Funeral And Mourning Rituals Of Judaism
How are the customary funeral and mourning rituals of Judaism, Protestant Christianity, Roman
Catholicism, and Islam similar and different? Judaism and Islam have similar funeral practices.
Both Islam and Judaism appoint the responsibilities of the burial of the deceased within their
communities. Both traditions require the dead be buried as promptly as possible. It is for the body
to be buried on the same day of the death. Islam and Judaismforbid embalming and routine
autopsies as desecration of the dead. However, both religions consider organ donation as
permissible. Muslims are strictly forbidden from the process of cremation, while Jewish rules on
cremation can vary depending on the denomination. Conservative Jews oppose cremation while the
process has become an increasingly more popular and acceptable practice among Reform Jews.
In both religions the body is considered sacred and handled with care. Muslims are obligated to
perform a procedure known as ghusl, or washing, on the body of the deceased. This procedure
should be done by community members of the same gender. A deceased man should be washed
by a male relative and a deceased woman by a female relative. During the procedure all clothes
are removed from the body leaving the private areas covered. The deceased is then washed three
times with a combination of both water and scented oils. The body is then wrapped in a plain
white cloth called a kafan. The kafan is composed of three pieces of material for men and a
Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning Research Paper
Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) is caused by the consumption of the water soluble alkaloid
neurotoxin known as saxitoxin from shellfish (mussels, clams, cockles, oysters and scallops) from
waters contaminated by Algal blooms. The algal bloom that forms in the water has a fluorescent
greenish hue and contains dinoflagellates that produces these neurotoxins and is found in both the
temperate and tropical areas. Along with medications, the symptoms of may PSP resolve with the
excretion of the toxin. Patients are treated by providing them with respiratory support and fluid
therapy. PSP is confirmed by the urine test of the affected individual to check for saxitoxin by high
performance liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy. Although the HPLC MS
Freedom Of Speech Limitations
The first Amendment of The United States Constitution gives everyone the opportunity for freedom
of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. Despite, the United America living by the the value
that everyone has freedom of speech and equal opportunities, the first Amendment should be limited
because it can uphold national security and general hostility. As this already occurred in our nation s
past, with the Red Scare which led to Schneck vs United Statesin 1919, and the second Red Scare
that led to the McCarthy era and Dennis vs the United States in the 1950s. Our nation already had
a history of the first amendment causing scrutiny in a stressful time. History cannot repeat itself,
as it is a must that freedom of speech and press must be limited , while our nation goes through a
drastic time for the sake of the American people and the United States of America. Freedom of
speech and press allows people to communicate and discuss important issues. It is one of our basic
freedom rights. But when our nation is going to a drastic time, freedom of speech should be
limited as distasteful speech can send an alarming message. One of the reasons that freedom of
speech and press needs to be limited is that sometimes people s opinions can cause chaos. People s
opinions can cause anger and want to fight back. For instance, in the past our nation went through a
turbulent time known as 9/11, where American s pulled through together, and voiced their opinions,
of this hostile time in United States history. Sometimes the opinions of people can fear, anger, and
wanting to fight back. That could cause a drastic situation to become more drastic. So, under
president George W. Bush the USA Patriotic Act was it enacted. This was a controversial law
enacted in response to the 9/11 terrioist acts, which was to strengthen domestic sceurity and broaden
the powers of law enforcement agencies with regards to identifying and stopping terrorists ,with the
slightest detail. In conclusion, freedom of speech and press must be limited during a time when our
nation is going through hostility because sometimes individuals opinions can cause an alarming
situation to be worse. Despite freedom of speech being a basic right,
Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides
Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides: 1 Propanol and 2 Pentanol Introduction One way
scientist gets alkyl halides is by using the manipulation of an alcohol. When alcohols are treated
with HBr or HCl; they can undergo a nucleophile substation reaction to generate an alkyl halide
and water2. Using the structure of the alcohols they are able to use SN1 or SN2 mechanisms. For
both these mechanisms though, the OH group must be pronated shown in Figure 1. R OH + H

limiting mechanism that is a unimolecular nucleophic substation reaction. In this mechanism it
involves two steps, one in which the leaving group leaves and then forms a carbocation
intermediate, shown in figure 2. Then it is able to break bonds between carbon and making it
able for carbon to leave the group before the bond forming with nucleophile begins1. R OH2R+ +

resulting in the production of RBr While the mechanisms for SN2 is a biomolecular reaction.

is allowed to form a nucleophile, that then forms a transition state and then results in the final
product, as shown in Figure 3. + R OH2 RBr +H2O Br Figure 3. Figure 3 shows the attacking of Br
