Surveillance in 1984 by George Orwells and the Modern World
A world beyond what George Orwell could imagine has been created in modern society through
the use of not only government surveillance, but also corporate and consumer spying where users
are often unaware of spying.. 1984 is set in a neo communist society where the government
controls production of goods and spies on its citizens in order to maintain power. In the modern
era, surveillance takes a different form. Often the methods for spying on citizens in the US do not
involve a direct line from the NSA to the citizen s home, it usually takes a detour through a
commercial setting. By partnering with major companies such as Facebook, Google, and Amazon,
government surveillance programs are able to collect far more information than could be gained
by simply tapping telephone lines. This is more disturbing since many companies including
Verizon, AT T, Apple, and Amazon do not require a warrant to supply information to investigators,
and do not notify users of data requests. The government in 1984 maintains power by using
constant surveillance and suppression of citizens. Unlike the modern era, all citizens know they
are being watched and are cautious about their actions. Winston says of the telescreen, the Party s
method of espionage: Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper,
would be picked up by it [the telescreen], moreover, so long as he remained within the field of
vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as
My Favorite Quote Analysis
My favorite quote will always be by Sappho in which she says, Someone, I tell you, in another
time will remember us. She was right. She s remembered for being a gay poet and is
immortalized despite a lot of her works not being found completely. It s one of my favorite quotes
because identifying as a nonbinary queer person who also likes girls, I can relate to Sappho a lot
when she writes about her desire for love and personal heartbreaks. This quote also brings me ease
as even in another time someone will still remember me. I think we all want to leave a legacy of
some sort, and for me I want my legacy to be centered around my experience and
accomplishments as an American born Punjabi artist and social activist, who was also highly
active in the LGBTQ+ community. I want someone to remember me because it is a vicious cycle
that people of color and members of the color in the LGBTQ+ community get forgotten in history.
History is white washed. But the idea that I will do enough in my life to be remembered in some
shape or form, reminds me that my efforts and failures as a Punjabi artist and social activist are just
part of a legacy I am starting.

Moving on, my strength and determination did not magically appear one day. I had a lot of
amazing people who are a part of my support network who helped show me what healthy self love
and growth is supposed to be. One of the people I will be highlighting is my AP English teacher.
Candice Ligator, was one of the best, and one of my favorite teachers in my high school career.
She was a big part of my support system when it came to being a trans and queer student who had
a lot of family issues. She was also a big inspiration to me as she told us stories full of struggles
growing as a teacher. She talked about how starting off as a teacher at first made her cry every
night, showing me that it takes persistence to be adept in a profession. Her choices on the pieces
of literature she taught were engaging as they touched upon feminism, gay rights, and race. This
allowed me to explore both my interest in writing and in social justice. Reading about personal
experiences from Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Ralph Ellison was inspiring as it allowed me to
see that I can
Speech On Environmental Pollution
Pollution is a big problem in this day and age. Some pollution comes from burning gas to fuel our
cars or some other forms of pollution comes from volcanoes. Carbon dioxide is the main pollutant
warming the earth. But if we start producing less carbon dioxide then the earth will heat up even
more. I know it s crazy right. Carbon dioxide can be produced by cars, planes, power plants, and
many more activities that involve the burning of gas. Did you know that within the past 150 years
we humans have produced the highest level of sulfur dioxide. Yes it s true. When volcanoes erupt
they produce sulfur dioxide which causes pollutionbut in this world today humans produce the most
amount of sulfur dioxide. You might be asking yourself what are other humans doing to help
prevent pollution? Well, some industrialized countries are trying to help prevent pollution a little
bit more. But we can help them with that by driving/flying less or recycling more. So let s throw
our best efforts in to help save our atmosphere. The most polluted city in the world is Dehli, New
York. Delhi, New York is so polluted that there is a little bit of a yellow tint in the sky. Matthieu
Daley spent 5 days taking pictures all around Delhi and in his photographs you can see a little bit
of yellow over the sky. We can see physical results of pollution in his photographs. No one wants to
have yellow skies so let s throw in a helping hand and do more for the atmosphere.
There is actually water pollution
Active Voice Vs. Passive Voice
Why is it important to write in an Active Voice vs. Passive Voice ?
I believe active voice is important because it allows us to write a lower grade level that our
intended audiences can understand and relate to. Active voice creates clear action it is less wordy,
which is direct to the reader or to the audience. Also, the writer uses a common and present language
to connect with the readers so they can better understand the written material. On the other hand,
passive voice is indirect and has weak verbs and may use present progressives which can be very
confusing to the reader. Passive voice is used when the writer does not know the audience. However,
in the health care field, it is important that you know your audiences not by personally,
General Strain Theory Of Jerome Kerviel
Jerome Kerviel is a criminal there is no denying that, he admitted to every crime he was charged
with, but what would have caused such a prominent businessman to go from a rising star within the
banking business to rogue trader? What structural issues may have helped or even encouraged
Kerviel to commit these crimes? Why would Kerviel risk everything he had worked for? To answer
questions like this I had to think about them as unique situations that led Kerviel to becoming the
rogue trader. I believe that using theoretical theories such as, strain theory, differential association
and rational choice will help better understand Kerviel s decision to go from rising star to convicted
felon.
General Strain Theory General strain theory shifts attention away from economic status to a social
psychological syndrome of experiencing negative emotions arising from strains or negative
dimensions in one s environment (Friedrichs 2010). In other words, strain theory is simply having a
goal but lacking the method of achieving said goal. Thus, the person becomes innovative in creating
a method which allows them achieve their goal, usually thru illegal means, as in Kerviel s ... Show

The term Rational Choice addresses two related aspects of a deeper intellectual provocation in
sociology. The term choice implies understanding social phenomena as result of individual action,
and that every action is seen as a choice, in a counterfactual view, in light of its possible alternatives.
Describing these choices as rational implies deducing them from actor characteristics other than the
action itself (Scholtz 2015). However, for the context of this study rational choice is defined as
strategically planning to commit a crime by going over the pros and cons and comparing those to the
risk rewards of committing the
Search Warrant Essay
Some information that we found was that if the police suspects that home holds marijuana, then they
must first get hold of a search warrant under the Fourth Amendment, if not then the police officers
must prove exigent circumstances such as destruction of evidence, hot pursuit, or some other
exception that applies. But the number one guaranteed way for this to go smoothly is to get a
search warrant by a judge. With that being said the policeofficers could demand and require what
they need from and what they can get from the search warrant. But in order to get a search warrant,
the police officers must provide that they have probable cause that there is marijuana in the house.
Even though the Fourth Amendment protects a man s home, neither... Show more content on

Some interesting facts that I have found was when current technology has given police officers a
new way on searching humans, buildings, homes and even vehicles. Now marijuana is generally
cultivated with a lot of high intensity lamps; the police officers can now conduct an infrared scan
that creates thermal images of the outside of the homes. With that being said they can measure
the heat originating from the inside of the house. An example of this new technology would be
the case of Kyllo v. United States, 533 U.S. 27 (2001), basically saying that the police collected
info from the ultraviolet scan was used and can be used with other evidence to create probable
cause for a search warrant. Within the case of Kyllo, the proof that was acquired from the search
warrant was in fact used against Kyllo at his trial for developing marijuana and the court of appeals
confirmed the verdict but the Supreme Court of the United States revered the

In 2007 scientists discovered an 1,800 year old graveyard in the Roman city of Ephesus, Turkey,
containing thousands of bones and tombstones identifying the remains as those of gladiators. Some
of the skeletons showed evidence of healing wounds, suggesting that gladiators received medical
treatment, and one seemed to belong to a retired fighter. There is no question that gladiatorial combat
was a dangerous business, but contrary to popular myth,it did not always end in
The Population Of Hidalgo County
Introduction In 2013, the population of Hidalgo County was estimated to be 815,996, an increase
of 9,444 (2%) over the 2012 estimated population. The county seat is located in the City of
Edinburg. The governing body of Hidalgo County is the Commissioners Court. The Commissioners
Court is comprised of the County Judge, who serves as the presiding officer, and four
Commissioners from one of the County s four road and bridge precincts. Each member of the
Commissioners Court is elected to a four year term of office. The Commissioners Court has certain
powers expressly granted by the legislature and powers necessarily implied by such grant. One of the
most important duties of the Commissioners Court is management of the finances of the County.
Among other things, it approves the budget, determines the tax rates, approves contracts in the name
of the County, determines whether indebtedness should be authorized and issued, and appoints
certain County officials. The Commissioners Court is required to adopt a final budget by no later
than the close of the calendar year. This annual budget serves as the foundation for the County s
financial planning and control. The budget includes appropriations for the general fund, certain
special revenue funds, debt service funds, and proprietary funds. The budget is prepared by fund,
function, department, and object codes. Transfer of appropriations between departments requires the
approval of Commissioners Court.

Analytical Analysis Of Frost At Midnight By Samuel Coleridge
Analytical essay of Frost at Midnight by Samuel Coleridge
People think that nature brings a sort of calmness, happiness or peace, which is why most people
travel to places with beautiful sceneries, or build houses near beaches, or have a plant in their
surrounding or even just a painting of a tree, flower or mountain. The importance of nature is
subjective as it nature touches people in different ways. The poem Frost at Midnight, Samuel
Coleridge, is a monolingual conversation between the speaker and his sleeping infant. It is written in
blank verse, with little or no rhyme but in iambic pentameter. In this poem, the speaker emphasises
the importance of nature by equating it to God, he also speaks about the ability of nature to create
treasured memories, which he wants to use to plant himself in his child s future, therefore, he his
rallying against modernization because of this.
The speaker stresses the importance of nature by comparing it to God, he says that his child will
be far from God because he will not be able to hear God s voice which apparently is, The lovely
shapes and sounds intelligible / Of that eternal language... (65 66). I believe that this comparison
is quite different as most religions such as Christianity do not equate God with earth but instead
suggests that God created earth (New International Version, Gen. 1.1). This sentence makes me
think that God can mean different things to different people. The thing or person we worship the
most or respect the most can be a god, money can be a god, a popular music artist can be a god, and
a tyrannical president can also be a god. The speaker s definition of a God involved the ability to:
from eternity doth teach Himself in all... Great universal Teacher! (67 69).The speaker s definition
of God entails the ability to be able to teach one s self and be able to mold spirits. Thereby nature is
important in this way because it can mold people s spirits and lives.
Another way in which the speaker stresses the importance of nature is by stating benefits from
nature. He is sitting at home and staring out through the window, looking at the fluttering object and
listening to the owl while the rest of the residents in the house are asleep. He is in his
