Benjamin Franklin Biography
As it is stated in Autobiography and many biographies about Benjamin Franklin s life, he was
transformed from a selfish, immature young man to be the founding father we now know of. The
American founding father and philosopher trusted in both the written word and the Word during this
transformation, as one can see. Yet, he seems like he trusted one of these more than the other,
although only slightly more. Benjamin Franklindid trust the written word, as an author of many
works. He even quoted that the pen is mightier than the sword. He was an author of many literary
works, including the pseudonym Mrs. Silence Dogood. Franklin wrote to the local newspaper under
her pseudonym because his older brother and guardian, Jacob, forbade him from... Show more

Those two aspects of his life fueled many parts of his transformation, the Word helped him get an
idea of his Virtues, and the written word forwarded his career in politics, science, and
philosophies. Franklin s words have left a mark on American history, as just some of the works of
one of our founding fathers. Even in his youth, he was highly educated, and spent most of his time
either reading or writing. In his adulthood, these also consisted of experimenting as well, like the
famous kite experiment that he conducted. Literature was a large part of Franklin s life and his
Dialectical Or Non-Aristotelian Theatre Analysis
Theatre is a vast and culturally expansive art form that has continued to be relevant for millennia,
and its longevity is discussed in philosophical, theoretical, and sociological circles everywhere.
Though it can take many different forms, the contemporary notion of a theatrical performance holds
only two requirements; there needs to be actors playing out a scenario, and there needs to be an
audience that can watch this event unfold. Theatreis an ephemeral art form, as its very nature
requires that something happen at a given time, in a given place, and around people who can see it.
The relationship between the actorand the spectator has evolved throughout the course of theatre
history; however, there have been stretches of time in which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In his Epic, Dialectical, or Non Aristotelian Theatre, Brecht does not transform the spatial
relationship between actor and spectator, but he does attempt to transform the effect his theatre has
on its audience. Writing in 1968, W. A. J. Steer describes the role Verfremdungseffekt in Brecht s
theatre before he states,
Brecht also attributes a negative, destructive function to the alienation effect that of thwarting the
illusionism of the stage, of inhibiting the audience s traditional propensity to Einfühlung or
emotional identification with the dramatic characters and situation (639).
In other words, Brechtian techniques attempt to dissuade the audience from having an emotional
connection to the action that happens on the stage. Instead, they force the audience to think critically
about the sociological implications of the events that are happening, through making them aware of
the fact that they are only experiencing a simulation of reality. Writing in 1952, John Gassner
reinforces this point when he states, ...he broke with representational fourth wall theatre, with purely
affective drama, and with the means, including unity of mood, by which playwriting and stage art
draw the spectator into a closed magical circle of experience and induce a hypnosis

Greek Mythology Research Paper
Our story starts in the furthest side of the western ocean. Living there were the three gorgons.
Stheno, Euryale and Medusa. Stheno and Euryale were immortal, born to live forever. Medusa
though, was only a mortal, bound to die sometime in her life. What s a gorgon though? A gorgon
is a dragon like monster with golden scales and snakes for hair. Whenever looked in the eye of a
gorgon you are frozen to stone. They were shunned for what they were and there was no way to
escape the hatred the community of people living on land gave them. Their parents; Phorcys and
Ceto were sea gods. But why is Medusa only mortal, while her sisters were granted the opportunity
to live forever? The reason is that Medusa was not born a gorgon. She was born a human.
Argumentative Essay On Negative Liberty
First and foremost, I am a proponent of Negative Liberty. Not only does this mean that individuals
should be free from external impediments to action by other people, but also that a government
should primarily remove obstructions to our freedom, which is in contrast to Positive Liberty, for the
purpose of preserving individual liberties. The lack of hindrance to human action will limit
governmentactivities and create a free, tolerant society. In addition, Negative Liberty supports the
individual freedom of choice and movement. With this in mind, I cannot help but emphasize the
significance of the degree to which individuals encounter interferences from others. Some may argue
that a government should actively create conditions necessary for self determination and freedom to
act in the presence of internal capacities; however, I interpret that as a sense of entitlement that
requires a redistribution of wealth and ultimately violates the human right of private property. For
this reason, I find Positive Liberty to be an infringement of others liberty. Throughout mankind s
history, there have been many types of oppression that illustrate my support for Negative Liberty,
such as the exploitative authoritarian regimes, economic hardships, and racial oppression. Under an
authoritarian regime, specifically a dictatorship, the ruler has the political and executive power to
persecute an individual or group for political reasons, which demonstrates a form of political
oppression.
Role of Music in Sonny s Blues by James Baldwin
The Role of Music in Sonny s Blues
Sonny s Blues, by James Baldwin, explores the strained relationship that two brothers the unnamed
narrator and Sonny have and how the narrator slowly begins to recognize Sonny s relationship with
music. While the narrator is initially baffled by Sonny s dream to become a musician, towards the
end of the short story, he recognizes that Sonny depends on music and that it is a driving force in his
life, possibly one of the only things that keep him alive. Sonny s Blues opens with news that Sonny
has been recently apprehended during a drug bust, which establishes that Sonny has had an ongoing
problem with drug addiction, specifically heroin. While the narrator is apprehensive about
contacting Sonny after this incident as the brother have lost touch over the years, he eventually
reaches out to Sonny and gains insight into what Sonny has been doing during their estrangement; it
is also during this time that the narrator recognizes that music is not only an artistic outlet for Sonny,
but also provides an emotional and psychological catharsis for him and those that listen to his music.
Sonny best describes his dependency on music as he talks to his brother after an old fashioned
revival meeting during which there was much singing. Sonny states,
When she was singing before, said Sonny, abruptly, her voice reminded me for a minute of what
heroin feels like sometimes when it s in your veins. It makes you feel sort of warm and cool at
William Shakespeare s Macbeth And Wuthering Heights
Andrew Sloop
Mrs. Weaver
English 4
May 29, 2017
Destructive Love In Macbeth and Wuthering Heights The theme of destructive love within
relationships in Shakespeare s Macbeth and Bronte s Wuthering Heights are presented through
sexism, jealousy, and betrayal. How do women gain control in a relationship? Can men regain
control in a relationship? What makes a good relationship? What makes a bad relationship? Can
people be over ambitious? These questions are vital to understanding the complex relationships in
these stories. Women gain control in a relationship in several ways. Some relationships don t
struggle for power, and sometimes a participant simply gives the woman power freely. However,
other times, the woman abuses her partner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Macbeth, Macbeth becomes king. When this happens, Lady Macbeth becomes docile, where
before she was fiery, ruthless, and the driving force in the relationship. Macbeth then became
dominant over Lady Macbeth, gaining control in the relationship. Thus, in this example, control was
regained. In Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff eventually came to own Wuthering Heights, and
appropriated Thrushcross Grange. When this happened, he was angry with Catherine, because he did
not know her plan. He isolated her from the rest of the household. He became more powerful. Thus,
he regained control in the relationship.
What makes a good relationship? This question has plagued the romantically inclined for perhaps
all of time. Dr. Sarkis of Psychology Today seems to think that common goals and values are key,
stating Couples with very different interests can have healthy relationships what counts is that they
share common goals and values. (psychologytoday.com.) In this sense, the relationship in Macbeth
is considered a good relationship. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do, after all, share a common goal:
They both want Macbeth to be king. However, they are not the only ones who share a common goal
or value.
Heathcliff and Catherine s love is an attempt to break the boundaries of self and to fuse with another
to transcend the inherent separateness of the human condition; fusion with another will by uniting
two incomplete individuals
The Incredible Life of Samuel Houston
On March 2, 1793 Sam Houston was born on the family plantation in Rockbridge County,
Virginia. His father s name was also Samuel Houston and his mother was Elizabeth Houston. He
was of Scotch Irish decent and the family was Presbyterian. He received a simple education at a
school which he only attended for only about six months. When Houston was thirteen his father
died. Because of the loss, in the spring of 1807 he and his mother along with his five brothers and
three sisters to Maryville in Blount County in Eastern Tennessee were the family established a
farm on a tributary of Baker s Creek. Houston went to a nearby school for the time. In 1809
Houston ran away to the Cherokees in 1809 because he did not want to work on the family farm
or the store the family ran. He went across the Tennessee River and lived with the Cherokees for
three years with Chief Oolooteka who adopted him and gave him the Indian name Colonneh,
which means the Raven. Houston viewed him as a father and the tribe as a surrogate family.
Because of this he had great sympathy for Native Americans for the rest of his life. In 1812
Houston moved back to Maryville and opened a one room school house to repay some debts he
owed. Later that year, when war broke out with Britain, Houston enlisted in the army as a private at
the age of twenty. Within four months he was promoted to ensign of the infantry. He was a member
of Andrew Jackson s army. He fought in the battle of Horseshoe Bend on the
Longboards And Skateboards
For the longest time people believed that skateboards and longboards are the same thing. They all
thought that they all can do tricks and flips. But to the contrary despite the fact that longboards and
skateboards share four wheels and a deck, they are both very different because they both have their
intended uses. Skateboards and Longboards share a similar structure. They both share four wheels
that contain bearings that allows the wheels to continuously spin for a while. They both share trucks
that contain bushings that act as a cushion that allows the board to turn smoothly. They both share a
deck that is usually made from plywood. Other boards would be made out of bamboo. Longboards
are more meant for transportation. Longboards are primarily
Symbolism In Greenleaf
In O Connor s Greenleaf, control is evident when Mrs. may seeks to control her own life as well
as others. Mrs. May s dominance is clear when she demands her supremacy over the bull s
actions. While the raging bull is charging around the yard, Mrs. May mandates that the bull be put
to death. Throughout the story, the symbolism of the bull is developed from just an animal, to a
visual representation of the vast control Mrs. May attempts to declare over others. Mrs. May also
indicates control over her own life. She knows that the control she imposes over her own life will
be greater than that of others. Mrs. Greenleaf s routine is chronicled as: [e]very day she cut out all
the morbid stories out of the newspaper, (O Connor, 315). This is imperative
Gdp Essay
Introduction
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the most common and widely used measurement by most of the
countries in the world. The primary purpose of this measurement is to measure country s particular
year economy s output and production (Picardo, 2013). In other words, it represents the total value
of all the final goods and services produced in the economy during a particular year. GDP shows an
overall picture of the country s economy performance and enable the policymakers and bankers to
identify whether the economy is expanding or tightening, whether they need to restraint or boost the
economy and if there is a threat of inflation and recession (Picardo, 2013).

Unilateral transfers also known as current transfers is one of the component under current account in
balance of payment. It is a transfer that do not receive anything in return. It is not a trade of goods

Ice Hockey History
Hockey is a sport that s been around for almost 200 years now, it s a competitive sport that s
played all across our world, and it has plenty of history behind it. Anyways, if you ask anyone in
Canada about it, they would most likely be able to tell you a few things about it. When people
think of Canada, Hockey can often come to mind. The sport developed and grew in Canada,
created by students (soldiers) of King College School, to a small village in Nova Scotia, named
Windsor. The game used to be a field game, called Hurley, and soon enough they decided to take it
to the ice, where it earned the name Ice Hurley . Over time, the game finally earned a new name, as
we know it as of today, Ice Hockey. At this time, it was really beginning to... Show more content on

For example, Hockey also helped cement Canada, and plenty more of countries status as a nation
with its own identity , which is completely true. Canada and the rest of North America is well
known for hockey, also it being the home of the NHL, it wouldn t be the same place without it at
all. As many people know, it s a very difficult sport to play, and if you play it consider it a talent,
even a gift, its known as one of the hardest games to play in the world. The sport can also help
with many traits, such as reflexes, stamina, hand eye coordination and more. Otherwise, many
people across the world have tons of passion for the sport, lots of citizens all across the world put
their life into it, it s their JOB, and it s well worth it, because the people who do that make
millions a year, which is crazy... especially just for playing a game, but in front of 20,000 paying
fans of course. Some parts of our world revolve around the game, without it, there would be an
enormous missing piece. So that can explain how it has affected our world, also because it s been
around for about 200 years now, it really has a huge history behind it, which has affected us a
