Examples Of Good Vs Evil In Beowulf
Throughout the story of Beowulf the main idea in the story is the constant battle between good
and evil. Beowulf, the main character in the story is the so called hero in the people s eyes because
of his bravery and skill to go and fight the evil forces ruining people s lives and defeat those forces in
order to make things better for those that are being harmed. The battles of good vs. evil in Beowulf
can be compared to many different things we have going on in modern day all around us. The first
thing that comes to mind when I think of the battle of good vs. evil in modern day would be the
constant battle of the good people as in the Armed Forces fighting the evil, that being terrorism. The
United States Military would be the Beowulf of modern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf won several battles against the evil forces but also died in the last battle against the
dragon, this is the same as having several successful battles in history for our country but also
having not such successful battles. Everyone has battles within themselves that we often do not
see or know about but know each and everyone one of us encounter. Some people have to live
daily fighting the problems of depression which often can cause people to not seem happy or in
the worst case even cause them to take their own lives because they cannot deal with it anymore.
The good in modern times would be the help of therapy which can make people better handle
their problems or even take medicine to solve them as well. People who help those victims who
struggle daily would be the Beowulf in their lives coming to help them defeat the evil Grendel, that
being whatever their problem may be. In Beowulf he says They have seen my strength for
themselves,/ Have watched me rise from the darkness of war this quote describes and fits perfectly
with those who kept fighting to overcome their everyday
Theme Of Location In An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls is an immediate post war drama written by J.B. Priestley in 1945. The play
surrounds the wealthy Birling family in the fictional town of Brumley. The storyline follows each of
the Birlings and their individual part in the ultimate suicide of a young girl named Eva Smith. Even
though the play was written after the second worldwar, Priestly made the decision of setting the
story to take place in the Edwardian Era of 1912. This decision was a significant one as it allowed
Priestley s audience to reflect on the political climate and moral issues that were subject to the time.
His success could be attributed to his accurate portrayal of the selfish and pessimistic views of
people going into the First WorldWar. Priestley s choice of location and demonstration of severely
lacking social responsibility in the Birling family accurately reflects the political climate of 1912 and
the attitudes of the higher class.
Location serves a significant role in An Inspector Calls as it helps advocate for Priestley s personal
experience with living in the United Kingdom. The fictional town of Brumley was loosely based
on Priestley s own birthplace of Bradford, England. Priestley fought for England in the first World
War and broadly sympathized with socialism. Priestley s decision to set the time period in 1912
allowed his audience to reflect on the past political climate and the ethical values of the time. For the
most part, the public was unaware of the impending war and

1.527 C.E. Reign of the Emperor Justinian over the Byzantine EmpireJustinian, also known as the
sleepless emperor by his subjects, was one of the most influential of the early Byzantine emperors.
The reign of Justinian was a prodigiously paramount period. It marked the final cessation of the
Roman Empire; the establishment of the incipient, Byzantine empire; the commencement of Western
Europe s unique position within the civilizations of the Old World; and made possible the spread
of Islam and the rise of the Franks. He ruled along side his strong willed wife, and ... Show more

The Grand Canal helped to amalgamate both northern and southern China both economically
culturally, as well as strengthening the unification of the empire. Sui Yangdi also finished the
construction of the Great Wall, which is one of the largest building projects ever undertaken.
During his reign, Sui Yangdi also embarked on many military conquests in order to extend his
empire. He was able to expand his empire north into Inner Asia and south to present day Vietnam.
His conquests against Japan, though, ended disastrously with the Chinese people rebelling against
him , and eventually he was assassinated in 618 C.E. which brought the empire to an end. The fall
of the once powerful Sui dynasty after Sui Yangdi s death further proves how strong, authoritative
individuals are pivotal for the perpetuating success and survival of an empire and its peoples.
3.627 C.E. Reign of Tang Taizong over the Tang Empire Tang Taizong (627 649) was the second
Tang emperor and ruled the Tang Empire at its highest point. He was an zealous and charismatic
individual; he even kicked his father out of the throne and killed his two brothers just so he could
become the emperor. Taizong s reign brought about the most eminent period of prosperity and
tranquolity in China s society and helped China become one of the most powerful feudal empires
the world has ever seen. His empire covered most of the territory of present day China, Mongolia,
Central Asia, Vietnam, and Eastern Kazakhstan.
Comparing Quickdraw with in Paris with You Essay
How do the Poets James Fenton and Carol Ann Duffy Present the Pain of Love in their Poems In
Paris with You and Quickdraw ?
James Fenton and Carol Ann Duffy are both contemporary poets. Their poems In Paris with You
and Quickdraw both include the themes of the pain of love. This essay compares how the two poets
present the pain of love in their poems, exploring things such as imagery, vocabulary and form and
structure.
One way in which the poets present their ideas about the pain of love is through their use of
imagery with their poems. For example, they both use metaphors about being wounded . Fenton s
line I m one of your talking wounded adopts a pun which relates to the expression walking wounded
, used by soldiers to imply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Fenton s and Duffy s structures differ in places, they are also similar in some ways too.
For instance, both poems include repetitions. In Quickdraw , Duffy writes Take this...and this...and
this...and this...and this... . This is meant to represent her partner shooting her again and again; in
reality, he is saying many mean things to her, and hurting her further each time he says something.
Similarly, Fenton repeats the phrase I m in Paris with you , which suggests that no matter what the
couple have been through in the past, the fact that they are together is the only thing that matters.
Also, the word Paris may have a double meaning of love in the phrase. This is backed up in the last
stanza in the last stanza of the poem, when Fenton writes I m in Paris with the slightest thing you
do , which would mean I m in love with the slightest thing you do . Fenton may have used the
word Paris instead of love because he is to afraid to speak of his love for her because of the possible
consequences that he may eventually face, or he may have just used it because Paris is a city
associated with love and romance.
The language styles of the two poets differ in their poems. For example, Fenton writes In Paris
with You in the first person. He also uses many imperatives, such as Don t talk to me of love . This
suggests that Fenton has almost become afraid of the word love , as he
A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Giorgio Armani Code
Giorgio Armani is an Italian fashion house that manufactures and designs haute couture. Such
luxurious and high fashions are visibly seen through their advertisements such as their Armani Code
fragrance. In the Giorgio Armani ad, audiences can see the similarity in the different fragrance ads
for men and women such as the same models but in different positions. However, one could see the
difference in choice of audiences by closely analyzing the visual and rhetorical appeals. Both the
Giorgio Armaniadvertisements, Armani Code for men and Armani Code for women look very
similar in retrospect due to the intimate and sexual appeal they exude. However, by analyzing
visual and rhetorical appeals, one could clearly see the distinct difference in choice of audiences
despite selling the same product which is the fragrance. The fragrance for women aims to sell their
product to adult females in the middle and upper class. The fragrance for men however, directs their
ad towards adult males in the middle and upper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both the advertisements, there are two models, a man and a woman (Megan Fox). The models
are both dressed up in formal attire with the man in a black tuxedo and the woman in a sexy black
dress with a revealing back. Both of the ads include the models bodies facing each other at an
intimate distance. This image displays a certain sex appeal which helps to connect the fragrance,
Armani Code, to the idea of sexiness. The women s fragrance ad shows the woman staring
confidently at camera as a man is gazing towards her body touching her arm. This depicts the
woman being desired. The men s fragrance does the same with the man staring at the camera and the
woman being entranced by the man. The two advertisements are marketed towards different sexes
and use the main figure as the sexual object to be
English Expansion in Ireland
Introduction For my research task I had picked Irish English (also known as Hiberno English). As
English was first introduced to Ireland by the time of the Norman invasion. By the Tudor period,
the Irish culture and language re claimed its use in the territories it lost. However, the renewal of
English expansion following the Tudor conquest of Ireland revived the use of their language,
specifically during the plantations and the introduction of the Penal Laws, which banned the use
of Irish. By the 19th century, English was the language that was spoken most in the whole
country. It has reserved this position till the present day. Even though some people had their first
language as Irish also was fluent in English. Methodology Hypothesis My hypothesis is based on
the conversation of my two Irish friends about a party. This was the part of their conversation I
had took the conversation and translate it to British English. Then I had asked the assistance of
my friends to check if the translation was correct to proceed with my researches. This is their

Warkentin Chapter Summary
How does one describe land? What determines how one describes it? Does it matter about what year
the chapter is written? In Chapter 12 of Warkentin s text, he elaborates on the spacial complexities
humans had in British Columbia between 1840 s and early 2000 s. Warkentin flows from the
Southern British Columbia region to the Central areas of British Columbia then continues
observations to the Island Pacific coast which finishes with the Metropolitan B.C. His expertise of
the land is almost overwhelming with descriptions of the Natural features, resources, and settlements
within the area expressing tremendous spacial and humanistic details, highlighting the Canadian
Pacific Railway(CPR) and the important history between Aboriginals and the settlers of this time.
Unlike Warkentin, Bone describes a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The descriptions he gives about these keystones in history is enough for me to engage in my own
research. This made me question which text is the better to learn from, if a book doesn t create a
want for more, is it a good book? In terms of learning, I much preferred the Warkentin chapter as it
influenced me to dig deeper into the history of topics. What intrigues me about both chapters is
their different takes on what the geography of B.C. should represent. The Bone articles highlight an
economic opportunity in the mining, and extractions of resources, while seemingly bypassing the
history of how British Columbians have gotten to that point. There is a lack of concern for
indigenous population and other small communities in particularly the northern regions which
should be addressed. Bone does a great job of keeping his text simple and effective for easy reading
to catch main points, in my opinion this is where Warkentin has struggled. The detail Warkentin
illustrates in his text is profound yet cumbersome at times. Warkentin s knowledge of the land and
how humans have managed to integrate themselves among it to begin the extraction of the materials

Geology Essay
Geology is everywhere! We use items made from rocks and minerals all day and every day. Per the
University of Oregon, the Natural History Museum states that it is estimated that every person in the
United States will use more than three million pounds of rocks, minerals and metals during their
lifetime. A mineral is an inorganic substance occurring chemical compound, usually of crystalline
form that can be manipulated and used to make something else. A rockis the solid mineral material
that forms on the earths surface, and in the ocean. We use different rocks and minerals based on the
geologic timescale and the human time scale. Rocks and minerals are the building blocks of life.

They can be manipulated and transformed into various objects. Most minerals have more than
one purpose because they are so organic. Gold has been a hot commodity since it was discovered.
Gold is bought and sold every day, and every person wants their hands on it. Gold was named
California s state mineral in 1965 following the gold rush. It is used for mostly jewelry as well as
for medals and trophies. Gold can also be used in dentistry machine equipment. Today in society,
gold is a symbol of power and status. The more gold you have the more money people think you
have. Talc is common when it comes to powder like substances. It is one of the main ingredients in
baby powder, and in the powders used in gymnastics for good grip. Quartz is one of the most
versatile minerals on earth s crust as well as the most common. It is used to make sandpaper, soap,
pottery, heavy equipment, heat ray lamps, glass, paints, radios, televisions, clocks, computers, and
watches. Quartz has many different uses because of its special properties; under mechanical stress,
it can develop electric properties. Asbestos is another very common mineral. The crystal structure
and chemical composition of this mineral make its fibers very strong and resistant to heat and
chemicals. Asbestos is flexible, which makes it great for building materials like, ceiling and floor
tiles, insulation for walls and pipes, decorative coatings, and roofing materials. Asbestos is also used
in yarn,

Persuasive Speech About Peer Pressure
That sprint he just took might have just saved his life. He was muddled and petrified at the fact
that someone was forcing him to drink underage. That one sip could have changed his life. He
wouldn t be able to go to the Ivy League he dreamed of. He wouldn t be able to play on his school
soccer team. His whole life would have been ruined because of one minuscule sip. But he was glad
he ran. He was proud he ran. And this run might have just saved his life. He knew how bad peer
pressureis and how to avoid it. All kids should be able to avoid it. Do you know what to do when
being peer pressured? Do you know how people feel when they are being peer pressured? Well, you
should because peer pressure is a serious thing and can affect your life in many ways. But, it can
also save your life in many ways.
You might have wondered if others have had the experience of being peer pressured. They have.
Whether it be as simple as your parents forcing you to eat your broccoli at dinner or it could be as
serious as someone forcing you to drink alcohol under the legal age. Have you ever been peer
pressured? How did it feel? Peer pressure doesn t have to be negative though. There is also
something called positive peer pressure. Positive peer pressure is when your friends or someone
forces you to do something that will benefit you. Has your mom ever forced you to go study for
your next test? That is positive peer pressure. She is forcing you to do something that will only
benefit your well being. When it is negative peer pressure though, you don t end up being proud of
yourself in the end.
Parents should also help the kids out by telling them about peer pressure and teaching them how to
avoid it. According to David Herz, MD, a pediatrician at Scripps Coastal Medical Center in San
Diego, the parents should be able to talk to the kids about peer pressure. In his article, it states It s
also important to remember that any conversations you have with children about alcohol, drugs or
sex should start well before the teen years. They should understand, early, the consequences of bad
behavior. That will reinforce these values when they really need them. When the parents talk to the
kid before anything happens they will be able
Analytical Review of Cutting the Fuse
This quote by Pat Robertson works as a great illustration for how our nation reacted to the suicide
attacks carried out by Al Qaeda on United States soil. The initial reaction by political pundits and
politicians alike was that the only cause of these attacks was due to a radical Islamic view on the
world. However, in Robert A. Pape and James K. Feldman s book Cutting the Fuse they try to
analyze data on suicide bombing and try to determine what is the root cause of these violent acts.
Their conclusions are the exact opposite of the rhetoric that was presented to the American public.
Instead of blaming Islamic extremists, they instead come to the conclusion, that military occupation
is the main factor driving suicide terrorism (Pape Feldman 10). Furthermore, they also put forth the
argument that our current military strategies involving military occupation are counter productive
because rather than deterring violence, it actually increases suicide bombings committed against
American forces. In this paper I will examine the conclusions Robert Pape and James Feldman
have come to and will also analyze these conclusions in Cutting the Fuse with a belief that this text
works to refute much of what the American public has been told. However, before we can begin to
analyze the judgements that are presented within the text I must first defend my position as to why I
believe Cutting the Fuse is an excellent book. During a heated press conference in 2009 former

Arizona state industrial training school for the remainder of his minority (age 21) because he and a

The real issue is not the crime he committed, but a lack of Due Process and Equal Protection. The
process in which he was taken into custody, processed, questioned and sentenced; and how the
Arizona juvenile justice system worked overall were clearly (at the time) not acting in the best
interest of the juvenile, and appeared to discriminate against juvenile offenders. On June 8, 1964,

Supreme Court in which the ruling of the Arizona Supreme Court was reversed. The U.S. Supreme
Court held that Due process requires, in such proceedings, that adequate written notice be afforded

must meet, and must be given at the earliest practicable time, and, in any event, sufficiently in

to be represented by counsel and, if they are unable to afford counsel, that counsel will be appointed
to represent the child. Mrs. Gault s statement at the habeas corpus hearing that she had known she
