Trauma In Veterans
Fighting for your country is hard enough without returning home to face another battlefield, an
invisible internal struggle with being home. According to research done by Dr. Patel, almost half of
the veterans returning home that were in active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan are coming back with
invisible mental wounds that we are still attempting to understand. (Patel, 2015) Many face
continuous struggles to reintegrate themselves back into society due to the conditions they are
trained under. Understanding the impacts of trauma, more support for caregivers, and a hands on,
positive approach to the hidden mental illnesses, society will be better prepared to help veterans
transition back to civilian life. Post traumatic stress disorder is not a new concept to the military.
Identified in 1945 as war neuroses (Grinker Spielgel, 1945) PTSD, as most psychologists refer to
this disorder as, is a common occurs to military personnelstationed within the battle lines. This
condition can include having nightmares, flashbacks, mood swings and much more. (U.S.
Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015) The problem that most returning Operation Enduring Freedom
and Operation Iraqi freedom veterans are facing is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Patel, 2015) This creates more problems for not just the veteran themselves, but for the whole
community. Some veterans returning home cannot even operate a vehicle themselves due to mental
stress. According to the method formed by Viktor Frankl, a Nazi concentration camp survivor, if the
veterans could change the negative effects from their experiences into a positive outlook then maybe
healing can begin long before returning home (Osran, Smee, Sreenivasan, Weinberger, 2010) Using
spiritual motivation accompanied by positive therapies, veterans might be able to transition more
smoothly back into
Salsa Dancing In Social Science Summary
In her book, Salsa Dancing into Social Science, Luker discuss the importance of sampling,
operationalization and generalization in canonical social science research while highlight the believe
that each of these ideas can also be applied to qualitative research. While all three concepts are
important to consider when it comes of qualitative research. It is import to definite that similar and
differences. The following gives an overview of how each competent uses within canonical social
science research, how that translates into effect qualities and explore the ways in which
Hochschild utilizes these methods in her research for Strangers in Their own Land Sampling
Luker describes sampling through canonical social science research as a systemic random
probability sample , with the goal of producing results that can then be apply and a general way.
For example, with a research question that focuses on voting in a election, A canonical social
science research question may trying to determine how many voters are expected to vote a certain
way in a election. By using randomly sampling a certain number of voters could be surveyed the
result can provide a general description of the voting trend of an entire populations with similar
characteristic as the sample group. While I agree with Luker that sampling is important to both
canonical qualitative and qualitative social science research, in the case of qualitative research, the
word has different meaning. In contrast to the
Essay on Othello’s Diabolism
Othello s Diabolism

In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, there is present through most of the play such an overwhelming
amount of evil that the audience can scarcely remain undisturbed.

Alvin Kernan s Othello: an Introduction explains the diabolism existing under the name of honest
Iago :

Honest Iago conceals beneath the exterior of the plain soldier and blunt, practical man of the world
a diabolism so intense as to defy rational explanation it must be taken like lust or pride as simply a
given part of human nature, an anti life spirit which seeks the destruction of everything outside the
self. (75)

Even the imagery in the drama has its evil aspect. Kenneth Muir, in the Introduction to ... Show more

The second is that such evil is compatible, and even appears to ally itself easily, with exceptional
powers of will and intellect. (216)

H. S. Wilson in his book of literary criticism, On the Design of Shakespearean Tragedy, addresses
the character of the general s ancient:

With such a man everything is food for his malice. There is no appeasing him. His ego feeds upon
the misfortunes he contrives for others, and what he feeds on only makes him hungrier. He is proof
against pity and remorse alike, as his last interview with Desdemona and his sullen defiance of his
captors at the end only too painfully show us. In short, he is the demi devil that Othello finally calls
him, half a devil and half a man; yet the littleness in each of his components is formidable, spider
like, and appallingly human besides. (54)

In the essay Wit and Witchcraft: an Approach to Othello Robert B. Heilman unveils the evil awaiting
the reader in Othello:

Reason as an ally of evil is a subject to which Shakespeare keeps returning, as if fascinated, but in
different thematic forms as he explores different counter forces. ]. . .] Although Iago, as we saw,
does not take seriously the ennobling power of love, he does
Taking a Look at the Britannia Panopticon
The Britannia Panopticon is not the sort of heritage you walk about gazing at while thinking, Isn t
that pretty , admitted the music hall s preservation director Judith Bowers. She claims that a truly
restored Panopticon would have to reflect its thousand strong poor and even rough audience, paying
tribute to the folk who frequented the theatreover its long history.
The Panopticon was built in 1857 on the site of an old warehouse by the partnership of little known
architect Thomas Gildard and his brother in law H.M. McFarlane. The building, which was born as
a music hall and can be counted among the first to get electricity in Glasgow, became one of the
earliest establishments to be put into moving picture. It also housed freak shows, carnivals,
waxworks and even an indoor zoo attracting a diverse audience. It came to be called a people s
theatre in the hands of its most notable owner A.E. Pickard a notorious business man, millionaire and
quite the eccentric person. Unblemished or nearly intact purpose built theatres from an early age are
extremely rare in Britain. This is due to the fact that theatres that were failing financially were razed
by the dozens in order to sell the land. Even financially successful theatres were razed so that they
could be rebuilt bigger and better. Consequently, Britannia Music Hall, one of the few remaining
examples of a nineteenth century music hall, is worth restoration and preservation. Other historic
theatre buildings, like the
Edgar Allan Poe Alone Essay
From childhood s hour I have not been As others were is a quote from Alone by Edgar Allen Poe.
This poem has a copious amount of metaphors and contradicting statements. Edgar uses those
literary devices to show his struggles with isolation and depression. In the beginning, he said as a
child he was different from everyone else because he didn t have the same intensity of emotions
as others I could not bring My passions from a common spring From the same source I have not
taken My sorrow . He talks about his incapability to feel a full scale of emotions and isolation. Poe
s cease to have a range of emotions makes him to remain neutral or detached. He isolated himself
from others because of his differences and later on the solitude would... Show more content on

The poem has an abundance of metaphors and contradictions. Nature is an extended metaphor
throughout Alone and that is where multiple of the contradictions are located. Poe has made many
of the word have double meanings, for example the word torrent . From the torrent, or the fountain
torrent could either mean fast moving waters, which would contradict with a fountain s water, or it
could mean a sudden and violent outburst of words or feelings, which could fit it with the theme of
him not have such extreme emotions. The word torrent also fits in with the extended nature
metaphor. Poe uses the extended metaphor to show all the contrasting emotions around him, but he
remains neutral. Then, in the dawn Of a most stormy life , stormy or the aspect of a storm is used as
a metaphor to show his emotions. The metaphor is also used many times in the entire poem which
shows him remaining neutral even when there are so many different emotions around him. The
contradictions represent the contrasting emotions in the extended metaphor. In the end, the
metaphor Of a demon in my view is used to show the results of isolating himself from everyone else
because of his neutrality. The demon represents his depression from solitude. All the metaphors are
used to create the theme of being alone and
Causes Of The Crusades
The Crusades had multiple goals, many of which were far from reality. Over the years, the actual
actions and motivations of the Crusaders shifted farther and farther from the initial message
outlined by Pope Urban II. The first Crusade was launched in 1095 at the Council of Clermont. In
his speech, Urban II called for men to come to the aid of those in the East. This had a two fold goal:
to strengthen and protect the eastern empire, but also to protect Christianity and its interests against
Islam. In addition, Urban II also had a motivation that was closer to home. The Crusadespresented
the opportunity to send away the violent warriors or even criminals from Rome. He states, Let those
who have been accustomed unjustly to wage private war against the faithful now go against the
infidels...let those who, for a long time, have been robbers, now become knights (Speech at the
Council of Clermont). In sending away those that exhibited violent tendencies, Urban was free to
support reforms for peace within the Church.
One largely unintended consequence of the Crusades was the worsening relationship between
Crusading Christians and the Jewish people. Many Crusaders did not wait until they reached the
Holy Land to begin attacking. Once near Jerusalem, Jews were killed as readily as Muslims.
Soloman bar Samson, a Jewish writer that wrote his Chronicle in 1096, had this to say about the
Crusaders relationship with the Jews. Now it came to pass that as they passed through the towns
