The Multidimensional Nature Of Globalization
The multidimensional nature of globalization impacts citizens of the world in many ways. This
study will focus specifically on the effects of globalization on higher education with particular
emphasis on the rural community college and the employers served by this segment of the American
education system. Globalization is not a new concept in higher education; however, the impact of
globalization and its affect on rural communities is becoming more apparent. The impact of
globalization, both in terms of the opportunities it affords and the challenges it presents, is now a
well established feature of economic development. Due to increased openness in markets, economies
can no longer depend on protection from global competition ... Show more content on

However, the community college in advancing these globalization efforts, and, in particular, the
small, rural community college, is less defined and has not been researched to the extent that it has at
the university and K 12 levels. This chapter begins by providing the background and context of
globalization as a workplace issue; followed by the problem statement; purpose of the study; and
research questions that the study is striving to address. Concluding the chapter are common
terminology definitions used throughout the study.
Background and Context Americans are entering a workforce that is changing at a rapid pace.
Global competition affecting both businesses/organizations and workers; labor shortages; and the
documented skills gap are all factors that have led to a rapidly changing work environment. Due to
these changes, workers are expected to change and adapt to this global environment. Education and
training needed to prepare students to be globally competent lacks clarity, uniformity, and direction
(Hunter, 2004). Dellow (2007) goes on to say that globalization has and will continue to affect our
nation s labor market. Worker training and retraining due to offshoring and outsourcing of American
jobs, along with the creation of new jobs, will require workers to be able to adjust and adapt to
these changes within their communities. To keep pace and prepare
Similarities Between Slavery And Jane Addams
On the other hand, while Jane Addams did not live among the unfortunate events of slavery,
Addams had a normal childhood in a comfortable environment. However, Addams had her own
share of obstacles, Addams felt different due to her chronic sickness, spinal sclerosis, and in
addition, she had low self confidence. Addams considered herself ugly and would even remove
herself from her father when walking to church because she would feel that she was embarrassing
him. Though Addams father did not view her that way, an already self made man, they both shared a
strong relationship to which she was majorly influenced. Addams father taught her about the
importance of self help, discipline, and work. Even as a child, Addams witness the adversities that
Essay on Ethics and the Advancement of Military Technology
I. Introduction:
Technology in the light of military weaponry has been one of the growingly controversial issues that
the world faces today. Among the top weapon types that have advanced greatly over the past recent
years are nuclear, chemical and biological weaponry. Though the United States government and
military has been enthusiastically involved in the evolution of these weapons, their enthusiasm
dwindles when responsibility must be taken for the consequences that result. Consequences that are
left unresolved or postponed only bring about more doubts and questions that all branch off of one
basic issue: Is it ethical to continue the advancement of nuclear, chemical and biological warfare
when the results cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nuclear powered weapons have been tested in nearly any surroundings possible: underground,
underwater, on top of towers and barges, and even fired by rockets 200 miles into the
atmosphere.7 These tests have also been carried out in multiple sites in the United States, such as
Nevada, New Mexico, Mississippi, Colorado and Alaska.7 But though the last weapon test was held
over a decade ago by China, an estimate of 3,830 kilograms of plutonium has been left in the
ground, and 4,200 kilograms has been released into the atmosphere due to the great number of
nuclear testing around the world.7
In comparison to nuclear weaponry, using chemicals as a weapon can be dated back to 400 BC.
when the Spartan Greeks used sulfur fumes against the soldiers of their enemies. Of course, what
is today known as modern chemical warfare did not begin until 1915 during World War I.1 The
first chemical used in warfare was 160 tons of chlorine gas, which the Germans released into the
wind against their allies using 6,000 pressurized cylinders.1 This chemical killed over 10,000 troops
within its first and second attack by forming a yellowish liquid in the lungs of the victims and
causing burning in the
Controversy About Handicaped Children
because it may be very controversial for any group of people that may offend them. But most
ethicists will believe in one broke down definition. Ethicists will say that morality is how we are
supposed to live and why. Furthermore, most people believe in three moral principles; you
should not use people for your own personal gain, you should not kill to save someone else, and
that every life is sacred. Because there can t be one definition of what morality is many people
argue about many ideas and things making it very controversial. Like in this book a controversial
topic may be about handicapped children and how they have to be handled. An example of how it
can be controversial about handicapped children, there was a story of a kid named
Conformity In The Age Of Innocence
Edith Wharton s The Age of Innocence can be interpreted in a variety of ways; it is both an
analysis of a prelapsarian aristocracy and a narrative recounting a man s struggle to balance
passion with moral conformity. Under a sociological lens, the motif of innocence within The Age
of Innocence can be used to explore the conflict of interests between New York high society and an
individualist ideology in the midst of social change. The novel begins with a joint description of the
protagonist, Newland Archer, and 19th century New York haut monde. Society is governed by the
dictates of form and convention, in which all things considered unpleasant are avoided at all costs,
and the precepts of decorum and appearances are strictly adhered to. The... Show more content on

To Archer, she symbolizes disintegration of tradition and lack of stability. At the same time, she
offers honesty and genuine emotion to a culture sorely lacking in these qualities (Davis 2). She
provides Archer with a new and intriguing view of the world outside of his social sphere, drawing
him away from the moral and social dictates to which he has so closely complied. Through her, he
sees the incongruities in New York society and becomes increasingly disenchanted with his lot in
life. He realizes that, in reality, they all lived in a kind of hieroglyphic world, where the real thing
was never said or done or even thought, but only represented by a set of arbitrary signs (Wharton
38). He finds the ambiguity and hypocrisy prevalent among the elite especially repulsing, spurring
him into seeking another way of life, one that does not esteem shallow affability over authenticity,
compliance over individuality, and propriety over personal liberty. As a result, he creates his own
set of values and ideals centered on his growing love for Ellen Olenska. As they discuss her
growing reputation as an adulteress, he reveals to her his idea of the perfect society. He exclaims,
I want somehow to get away with you into a world where words like that . . . won t exist. Where
we shall be simply two human beings who love each other . . . and nothing else on earth will
matter. To which Ellen promptly replies, Oh, my dear where is that country? Have you ever been
there? (Wharton 235). With one fell swoop, she has crushed Archer s naïve belief that true love
conquers all. She further reveals that the world outside of New York s social bubble is one of
duplicity and harsh realities, for which Archer is completely unprepared. It thus becomes apparent
that Archer is the most innocent character of all; everyone
Evaluating The American Muscle Car
The American muscle car is one of the most iconic Americana things ever created. The term
Americana means, materials concerning or characteristic of America, its civilization, or its culture;
broadly: things typical of America (Merriam Webster). A few things that are Americana are
baseball, Fourth of July, the Statue of Liberty, and my personal favorite the American Muscle car.
Many cars come to mind when people hear that name, American Muscle car; the names they think
about included the Mustang, the Camaro, and the Challenger. I will be focusing on the Challenger
which was one of the first pony cars, an experiment to give the average American something cool
to ride. The criteria I will be using to evaluate the car will be judging its performance, its safety,
and fuel efficiency. The challenger is a piece of pure muscle, an embodiment of the free American
spirit. This car is an innovation; a marvel of engineering. Its smooth ride rivals none; its speed
challenges the competition, and its power rivals none.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this car didn t make the cut, it in the beginning was part of the model line for the Dodge
Coronet (Gunnell, Pg 96). This car gained its fame in the 1960 s; in the era of the bad boy cars.
Back then the car was different, but every star starts somewhere. The Challenger was an answer to
the Mustang and the Camaro; a rival in the roads. The Mustang was well rooted in the public image
of a muscle car or a pony car, however the Challenger was successful selling over 71000 models in
its first year ( FCA US Media Website ). In this era, the muscle car was also dying, but still the
challenger was up with the other great cars; like the infamous Mustang ( FCA US Media Website ).
This car was Dodge s answer to Ford and Chevrolet, and for being considerably less years on the
road; it did fairly
The Diamonds And Diamond Jewelry Market
Facts: The diamonds are basically luxurious goods which can be used for both jewelry and
investment. The diamond industry can be classified into two categories; one dealing with gem
grade diamonds and other dealing with industry grade diamonds. De Beers is the major player in
the industry and mostly whole of the industry sales is controlled even if the sales are of certified
diamonds or of the non certified diamonds.
Literature: The US is still the sale growth engine of the global diamond jewelry market. The growth
of retail sales was measured for 3% at constant exchange rates but 2% decline in terms of dollar
terms. Dee Beers the major player have curtailed the production in 2015 and hoping for a new
outlook to help the retailers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also true for high end diamond jewelry. Brands reduce consumers risk of making the wrong
purchasing choice and help them express their personality by way of association.
Increase in technical ability in synthetic gems: Synthetic gem companies and the technology they use
are becoming increasingly sophisticated. If synthetic stones leak into the diamond value chain
without being properly labelled as synthetic, they may pose a risk to the industry by undermining
consumer confidence in the authenticity of what they are buying.
Four Uncertainties that can define the future:
The global macroeconomic outlook:
The first uncertainty to take into account is the global macroeconomic outlook. Historically, demand
for diamonds has increased more or less in line with GDP growth. We expect this to continue in the
future.
The future of retail consolidation and branding:
Retailers play an important role in influencing whether and how consumers buy diamonds. Their
ability to invest in attracting consumers to the category (for instance, through branding) is
determined by the health and scale of individual players in the market. A fragmented retail industry
is unlikely to invest significantly in promoting diamond jewellery. Potential changes in consumer
attitudes about diamonds:
Retailers can only attract consumers to the diamond jewellery category if consumers perceive
diamonds as being inherently valuable and attractive and more desirable than other luxury goods.
The Death Of A Ball Turret Gunner
Since the beginning of time, humans have sought after power and control. It is human instinct to
desire to be the undisputed champion, but when does it become a problem? Warfare has been
practiced throughout civilization as a way to justify power. Though the orders come directly
from one man, thousands of men and women pay the ultimate sacrifice. In Randall Jerrell s The
Death of a Ball Turret Gunner , Jarrell is commenting on the brutality of warfare. Not only does
Jarrell address the tragedies of war, he also blames politics, war leaders, and the soldier s
acknowledgement of his duties. (Hill 6) With only five lines of text, his poems allows the reader
to understand what a soldier can go through. With the use of Jerrell s poem, The Vietnam War,
and Brian Turner s Ameriki Jundee , the truth of combat will be revealed. To understand what a
soldier goes through, Jerrell s poem must be explored. His poem s time era is important, it taking
place during World War Two, because it was the most prominent war America has faced. The title
alone tells the reader that someone has died. Immediately in the first line, Jerrell reveals the
speaker of the poem is retelling his death story. In the first line, Jerrell talks about him being in his
mother s belly and then falling into the state. By his mother, he means the B 17 bomber. He has
physically fallen asleep and reawakened in the turret s chair. He could also be talking about the
stages of his life. When he sleeps, he reminisces

In the period 1865 1900, technology, government policy, and economic conditions all changed
American agriculture a great deal. New farming machinery had a large role in the late 19th century,
giving farmers the opportunity to produce a lot more crops than they used to. The railroads had an
enormous influence on agriculture. They were able to charge the farmers large fees, expenses that
farmers barely had enough to cover, in order to transport their goods throughout the expansive
country. The booming industry also changed American agriculture, creating monopolies and gaining
incredible wealth with which the farmers simply could not compete. Economically, the monetary
policy along with the steadily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Document I shows Native Americans were being cheated out of their land, actually most of
their land was being sold. In 1887, the Dawes Severalty Act was passed by congress. The Dawes
act divided small plots for each family. But the farmers got their fill as well. On the reservation
there were another 90 million acres which were fertile and was often sold to white settlers. As
Native American lands went down White settlers land increased. As shown in Document B. Land
trades and began to pop up all around the country.
Technology greatly transformed American agriculture from just plain farming to commercial
farming. The mechanization of farming made farming easier and more profitable. As shown in
Document D technology was helping farmers, making farming more easier and they were able to
do many jobs quicker. But, Farmers couldn t afford to send crops to other places At the beginning
of the 1840s the railroad began to transform American agriculture, by the 1860 s all states east of
the Mississippi had rail service. As shown in Document B there were multiple railroads all around
the country. The farmers were ecstatic about this new technology because they could send their
crops to other areas, when before they didn t have the money to be able to do so. Other new
technologies were arriving such as the mechanical reaper and the steel plow.
In conclusion during the years 1865 and 1900 technology, economic and government policies

The Pros And Cons Of College Education
While looking for opinion pieces related to education, I came across quite a few proposing the
idea of free college tuition for the first two years of school. This was quite interesting to me
considering I had just began my college career and I know personally that it costs a lot to attend
college if you do not receive any financial help. When everyone joked about collegekids eating
roman noodles because that was all they could afford, I thought it was a joke. Now I understand
this is reality and it can be difficult to afford simple living expenses if you also must pay your
tuition. With the way the world is now, you almost always need an education to make a good
living. I decided to dig a little deeper and see what the free first two years of college looked like. I
was shocked to see that this had already been implemented in some places and it seemed to have
worked. Looking from both points of the argument, I learned things on both sides of the
perspective. In the first article, by Gary Rivlin, he explained that Sara Goldrick Rab has an idea
that could help those who want to attend college but the expense might be a little too much. Sara
has proposed a plan to help with that. Sara explains that the fed3eral government gives private
colleges tens of billions of dollars. She thinks that with cutting the help given to private schools, that
the government could fund a program called grades 13th and 14th. This would help students go to
college free for the first two years.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was released in 2006 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim didn t debut
until 2011, leaving fans to wait four long years before the next rendition came out. This is fairly
common with Bethesda Softworks to wait half a decade or longer to release a big title; however,
they do release smaller ones in between mostly using models and scenes from previously created
content. This is not an easy strategy to uphold as the game has to stay fresh to player s years after
release to keep them entertained long enough for the next rendition to premier. The Elder Scrolls
V: Skyrim achieved this so much that in October of 2016 Bethesda Softworks released The Elder
Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition as its new iteration for the series five years later. Skyrim was so
overwhelmingly popular that Bethesda could get away with spending the half a decade they
usually use developing a whole new Elder Scrolls game to just enhance the previous version. This
leaves many wondering how an offline single player game is so good that gamers will not just buy
it once, but twice and continue playing it for essentially ten years. The answer lies within its
immersion and endless expansion such as player classes, roles, decision making, and community
Zeitoun Rhetorical Essay

5 October 2012
Rough Draft: Rhetorical Analysis Essay
David Eggers, in Zeitoun, shows a story of a Muslim American family living through many
challenges. After 9/11 Muslim families, like the Zeitouns, face many problems living in America.
Eggers wants to inform other Americans on the situation of Muslim living in the United States,
present day. People who are uneducated about the Muslim religion need to be informed on how
similar lives are of other people all around the United States. These people throw out stereotypes and
aim judgments wrongly at the Zeitoun family. Unjust treatment of the Zeitoun family is a cause of
assuming and stereotypes. In this biography, Eggers helps inform his readers about ... Show more

There are many examples of pathos in Zeitoun because Eggers uses a lot of charged language,
stories, and objects that create an emotion in the readers.
There is less of the logical appeal, logos, in Zeitoun but Eggers does present it. Using cause and
effect, comparisons, and statistics, Eggers supports his argument through this logical appeal. An
example of cause and effect would be the 9/11 example. Since this tragedy happen, many more
stereotypes were brought upon Muslims, especially those living in America. After 9/11, Zeitoun
found it more difficult to live in New Orleans. The cause was 9/11 and the effect was how the
Muslim Americans were treated after the happening. Eggers also makes comparisons between the
Muslim religion and the Christian view. These facts appeal to the reader s intelligence and could
also build upon their education of each religion. When Kathy is converting, Eggers states the
similarities of each religion; At first she was simply intrigued by the basic things she didn t know,
and the many things she d wrongly presumed. She had no idea, for instance, that the Qur an was
filled with the same people as the Bible (Eggers, 61). Eggers goes on to compare Christianity to the
Muslim faith, and points out that there are many different types of Muslims just like there are many
types of Christians. Along with comparisons, the book has many statistics referencing to the
hurricane. An example would be, by date, the death toll when Kathy is waiting
Juxtaposition In Alice s Adventures In Wonderland
Juxtaposition: Juxtaposition is a literary device that places two persons, places, ideas, concepts, or
themes close together for contrasting effect. Juxtaposition is placing two things side by side to be
compared and contrasted.
Quote: Alice sighed wearily. I think you might do something better with the time, ...
If you know Time as well as I do, said the Hatter, you wouldn t talk about wasting IT. It s HIM.
I don t know what you mean, said Alice.
Of course you don t! replied the Hatter, tossing his head contemptuously. I dare say you never even
