1 Preface
Congratulations on the purchase of your new SAMSON SlurryMaster 6000 management system! To get the
best use out of the slurry tanker/management system, to familiarise yourself with it and to ensure the highest
level of safety in your daily work with it, we ask you to read this user manual carefully. Should you have any
questions that the manual does not answer, you are also very welcome to contact SAMSON AGRO A/S. We
recommend that you keep this user manual in a handy place, ready for when you need it.

2 System design
The SAMSON SlurryMaster 6000 management system is designed to control a slurry tanker/vacuum truck
via a battery-powered hydraulic system.
The SAMSON SlurryMaster 6000 is not designed to control other types of machinery. This is because the risk
of hazards and accidents has not been assessed.
The SAMSON SlurryMaster 6000 is constructed for one-man operated machinery that must only be used,
maintained and repaired by persons familiar with the machinery and who know the associated risks. The
prescribed repair, maintenance and service clauses and intervals should be observed at all times.
It is up to the user to ensure that the tanker and equipment comply with the regulations in force at any time
and with the compulsory safety measures, and that other generally applicable health and safety and road
safety regulations are observed.

3 System description
The SlurryMaster 6000 consists of a monitor on the tractor connected to a control box (slave decentral) fitted
on the slurry tanker. Depending on the optional extras fitted to the tanker, one or more of these slave
decentrals will be installed. This system can now control many new functions such as Section
distributor/Wheel drive/SAMSON wheel control, etc.

The monitor consists of:

 An information display with a number of fingertouch keys
 One or more control panels with switches
 An RS232 pin connector for printer/GPS
 A holder for the monitor safety glass

The information display has background illumination that automatically switches off when the system has not
been used for 10 minutes. The illumination can also be switched off completely.
The fingertouch keys are activated by pressure. Certain functions are activated by prolonged pressure. The
control panels are fitted with 2 or 3 toggle switches that can be locked in the outer positions and are
springloaded to return to the centre position.

The RS232 port is a 9-pin computer outlet that can be connected to a printer to print out the day’s work or to
a slurry dosing module that dispenses slurry based on a field map and a GPS. An adaptor can be fitted to this
socket, which can activate a GPS-based track guidance system (contact SAMSON AGRO A/S for more
information) (see Code 911 for setup).

The slave decentral consists of:

 A control circuit board
 A large number of output ports
 A large number of input ports

The circuit board is the “brain” of the system and controls all functions.

The relay output ports control the hydraulic valves, electrical contacts, etc., that need a signal to perform a
function.
The inputs can receive signals from flow gauges, wheel sensors, pressure switches, pressure transmitters
and electrical contacts.

5.7 Timer function on switches C1-3

Description of functions:

The length of time that switches C1-3 activate a function can now be adjusted. This is easily done in
the setup menu 120.0.: 0 = no time activated, 99 = indefinite WITHOUT beep.
If one of switches C1-3 is held in the up or down position for more than 2 seconds, the function on that switch
will automatically be activated for the period entered in menu 120.0.
The contact can be released after 2 seconds.
If you wish to cancel an automatic function, move the switch in question in the opposite direction, and the
automatic function will be switched off.

NB: Only the Code setup for the selected switches is shown in the machine setup in order to make the timer
function easier to control.

Setup: See Machine setup menu 120.0

5.8 50/50 Reduction on C3 switch (if installed)

When using two distributors on a wide boom, it is possible to stop the flow to one of the
distributors so that slurry application is limited to half of the boom width. SlurryMaster 6000
automatically reduces the working width and the slurry volume by 50% when the flow is
restricted to one side with the C3 switch (for example, from 24 m to 12 m). This function
works in both switch directions.

User manual 3.3 3B Page 11 of 71

6 Control system in brief

When power is connected to the control system, there will be a short start-up phase during which the display
will show, among other things, the system version, e.g. 36.
This start-up sequence includes a help function that checks if there is sufficient power to activate the system.
This takes approx. 15 seconds while the control system checks whether there is more than 11.5 volts for
more than 15 seconds. During the start-up phase, the display will only show I n I.
If this condition is satisfied, the slave decentral will start up as normal.
In most cases, it is possible to update SlurryMaster 6000 to the newest control version. Yearly updates with
new functions are released to ease and improve your work routines.
Always reset the control with Code 183 after the update. Certain new functions are not activated until a reset
has taken place. Remember to print out the setup before resetting, so that the subsequent new setup
procedure is quick and easy.
These instructions are written for versions 6100-38, 6110-37 and 770-21.

6.1 Power supply to the SlurryMaster

The power supply to the SlurryMaster 6000 MUST NOT be connected when the tractor is started. This is
because of the risk of extreme voltage differences at the point of starting the tractor.

IMPORTANT:
The power cable to the SlurryMaster 6000 must always be removed when the battery in the tractor is being
charged or if any welding is carried out on the slurry tanker or the tractor.

6.2 Start of dosing

When dosing is stopped in MANUAL mode, instead of ‘m³/Ha’ the display will show a value between 0% and
100%, which is the desired size of the opening of the control valve when dosing is started. This value can be
changed using Keys 10 or 11 (arrow up or down).
In both the AUTO and MANUAL modes, the control valve will open to the pre-programmed value when
dosing is started.

6.3 Automatic dosing of slurry

The AUTO key:

When pressing Key 15 ‘Auto', the system will be activated for automatic dosing and the display will show
‘Auto’. When driving, the valve will open to a position that corresponds to the desired dose rate. When
starting, the valve will open to the desired aperture. The automatic adjustment starts after the number of
seconds programmed into menu 150.6.

If a larger or smaller application rate than the pre-programmed value is required in an area of the field, Keys
10 and 11 (arrow up and down) are used. One press changes the rate by 5%, pressing the key a maximum
of 10 times increases or decreases the dose rate by 50%.
The display will then show the value in intervals of the increased or reduced rate and the percentage value of
the adjustment.
To reset to the default rate, either press the two keys at the same time or press the up key or down key back
to the desired rate.

If your driving speed does not match the desired dosage rate, a hare or tortoise will flash in the display. A
hare shows that you are driving too fast, a tortoise that you are driving too slowly.
For example, if the dosage rate should be 70 t/ha and you are driving at 15 km/h, a hare will flash in the
display to tell you to reduce your speed to, for example, 5 km/h.

Flashes if you drive too fast

Flashes if you drive too slowly
SAMSON AGRO A/S
User manual 3.3 3B Page 12 of 71

6.4 Manual dosing of slurry

The system is activated for manual dosing by pressing Key 15 ‘Auto’ so that the display shows ‘Man’. When
the system is in manual mode, the driver can freely adjust the dosing valve position in percent until the
desired rate or application volume is achieved by pressing Keys 10 and 11 (arrow up and down).

During the application process, the dosing valve can be adjusted by using arrow 10 (up) or 11 (down). This is
not shown in the display.

6.5 Safety features

To avoid any accidental spread of slurry due to operating error, a number of safety features are installed in
the control system, such as:

 In automatic dosing mode, the control valve closes 4 seconds after either the start of the automatic
adjustment, if you have not started moving off or if you accidentally stop during the application
process.
 In automatic dosing mode, the control valve opens slowly if no slurry flow has been registered by the
flow gauge.
 In manual mode, the above safety features are not active.

At driving speeds of more than 25 km/h, the lift/boom will be locked.

6.6 Active lift when using an incorporator

In order to better control the incorporator in loose/sandy soil, it is sometimes necessary to raise the
incorporator. This is done hydraulically via an extra valve (please see manual for PG slurry tanker for
adjustment of this valve).
When setting the dosage rate in the program “incorporator 1”, menu 181.9 will become active for xx seconds
and output port A3 will change status from 6-3 volt to 6-9 when the interval set in menu 181.9 has elapsed.
With this change of output port status, menu 180.3 must be selected (low speed on lift) so that this raises the
incorporator. If the “lift up/down” switch is used, the active lift program is deactivated until the user releases
the “lift up/down” switch again.

In user setup 8.0, you can choose to activate/deactivate this function by selecting YES/NO.

6.7 Auto depth regulation of incorporator

If a sensor for auto depth regulation is mounted on the incorporator, the working depth of the disc can be
adjusted.

If auto depth regulation has been selected for the incorporator, the system will automatically lower/raise the
incorporator when the dosing has started/stopped.

When dosing is started:

The incorporator is lowered until the sensor reports that it is lowered into the soil.
The control valve is opened when the programmed time in menus 181.2 and 182.2 has elapsed.
The auto depth regulation starts when the sensor registers that the incorporator is in the soil.

When dosing is stopped:

The control valve is closed and the incorporator pauses for the number of seconds’ delay keyed into menus
181.8 and182.8; the incorporator will then lift as programmed into menus 181.1 and 182.1.
At the same time, the wings can be raised a little (menu 181.3/182.3) to give a larger gap from the tip of the
wing to the soil when turning in the field. (Setting 181.3/182.3 to 0 means the wing cannot be lowered.) If the
incorporator needs to be raised before the wings are raised, the time gap can be programmed in menu
181.7/182.7.
SAMSON AGRO A/S
User manual 3.3 3B Page 13 of 71

6.8 Two speeds for raising/lowering lift and for automatic lift

The lift can be raised/lowered at two speeds.

Speeds can be set during programming of menu 180, which is the section for lift control:
 Low speed menu 180.3 is used for setting up automatic depth regulation. This is also the speed at which
the lift will operate when controlling the lift from the two extra switches that can be fitted by the lift
(optional extra).
 Low speed increase menu 180.7 is used for depth regulation for incorporator 3.
 Low speed decrease menu 180.8 is used for depth regulation for incorporator 3.

 High speed menu 180.4 is used when NOT using auto depth regulation and when the incorporator is
raised or lowered into the soil.

During auto depth regulation, the lift ‘up’ switch can be used and the lift raised until the switch is released.
The control system will then resume depth regulation.

NB: If the incorporator is fitted with drip-stop, which is automatically activated when raising the lift (SAMSON
TD and TE), the lift should be raised only momentarily, otherwise there is a risk of excessive pressure on
slurry hoses that could then become detached.

When driving using the boom program, an additional speed for lowering the boom has been integrated in
Code 10 menu 180.5. The rate at which the boom is lowered can therefore be determined. This function
applies to all three boom programs to ensure steady movement of the boom.

When driving with incorporator 3, an additional speed for lowering the incorporator has been integrated in
Code 10 menu 180.6. The rate at which the incorporator is lowered can therefore be determined.
When driving on roads at more than 15 km/h (Code 10 menu 184.0), the lift will be lowered automatically by
the number of tenths of seconds (Code 10 menu 183.9) used for lift suspension.

6.9 Operating additional lift switches

Optional extra
These are fitted at the rear of the tanker and are used to ease the attachment and detachment of
implements.

To activate the function, both buttons should Lift up

be pressed at the same time for 2 seconds.
Deactivation automatically takes place after a
pre-set time.

This is a safety feature to prevent accidental

activation.

When the lift is operated using one of these

buttons, the lift moves at low speed for safety
reasons. Lift down

6.10 Automatic folding and unfolding of boom and incorporator

Data for up to 3 types of incorporator and 3 types of boom that may take different times to fold and unfold can
be entered in the computer (menu 181, 1 and 2, to 186, 1 and 2).
If switch 6 (boom/incorporator in and out) is held either in the up or down position for more than 2 seconds,
the system will automatically use the time that has been entered in the computer. You can let go of the switch
after 2 seconds.
If you wish to stop an automatic folding or unfolding process, you must activate switch 6 (boom/incorporator
in and out) in the opposite direction and the automatic process will be stopped.

6.11 Distributor (direction of rotation and speed)

If the switch for the distributor is in the centre position, the distributor will always be switched off (used for
boom 3). If the switch is in the up or the down position (clockwise or anticlockwise rotation), the distributor will
start when dosing starts.
When dosing is stopped, the distributor will continue for the length of time entered in menu 170.1.

The distributor can work at two speeds. This function is only active for the two incorporation programs.

Distributor low speed menu 170.2: Speed of the distributor with automatic depth
regulation or when lift/dosing switch is activated
Distributor high speed menu 170.3: Speed of the distributor with NO automatic depth
regulation or when lift/dosing switch is activated

When dosing starts and the incorporator is lowered, if a sensor for automatic depth regulation is fitted, the
distributor will drive at low speed until the disc is in the soil or for maximum 2 seconds.

The lift can be operated during automatic depth regulation, whereby the lift can be raised until soil contact is
lost. The distributor will continue at high speed.

6.12 Drip-stop TD on track loosener switch

This function can be used when driving with an incorporator with hydraulically activated drip-stop, such as
SAMSON TD 12. The drip-stop will automatically be opened and closed when ON/OFF for slurry application
is activated.

7 Filling instructions
There are several different ways of filling the slurry tanker. This depends on the accessory level of the tanker.
The driver must always be familiar with the dangers associated with filling a slurry tanker. The tanker will
always be equipped with a type of sensor to stop the filling. These sensors will not be able to halt the filling if
an external filling pump is used.

7.1 Pressure sensor (filling pump stopped automatically)

If the slurry tanker is equipped with one or more filling pumps, a pressure sensor will be installed in the tank
to turn off the filling pump when the tank is 100% full. The pressure sensor is fitted to the top of the tank at
the rear end, position A.

7.2 Sensor on level gauge (filling pump stopped automatically)

This sensor enables the fill level of the tank to be regulated. This is very useful if the slurry creates a lot of
foam or if you do not intend to fill the slurry tank right to the top when driving on roads. The sensor is located
at the front of the tank.

B: Sensor

C: Handle used to turn the sensor on and off. In the

position shown the sensor is turned off.

D: Bolt used to lock the adjustment handle

D
SAMSON AGRO A/S
User manual 3.3 3B Page 17 of 71

7.2.1 Activation and deactivation of sensor on level gauge

If a 100% fill is desired, the handle at C should be moved to the position shown. The pressure sensor will now
stop the filling pump. If a lower fill is desired, the handle at C should be turned 180 degrees to the other side.
The level gauge will then stop the filling pump.

7.2.2 Adjustment of level gauge

The easiest way of adjusting the level gauge is to stop the filling pump manually when the desired fill level is
reached. Loosen bolt D and turn the adjustment handle until the yellow light in sensor B switches off. Tighten
bolt D again. The filling pump will now stop automatically when this level is reached next time the tank is
filled.

7.3 Automatic activation of rotary beacon (optional extra)

A pressure sensor is mounted at the very rear of the stone trap at the offloading pump. This sensor
measures the head pressure in the tank. When the slurry is at a height of 2 m at about 90% tank capacity,
the rotary beacon will start. If you wish to alter this setting, follow points 1-3 in the instructions below.

8 SAMSON wheel steering

8.1 System description

Wheel steering (if fitted) on the computer is a module within the standard steering system, which allows a
more user-friendly setup. The wheel steering computer continuously measures the angle between the tractor
and trailer and the turning angle of each wheel pair via electronic angle gauges. When the tractor turns, the
computer reads the turning angle and supplies power to the hydraulic valves that will then turn the wheels in
the right proportion. The steering system thus ensures that the wheels of the revolving axles have the correct
yaw angle. This reduces the risk of skidding when driving on public roads when the steerable wheels drive
onto a soft verge, and it also makes reversing the tanker easier.

A built-in status system monitors for an electric connection to the hydraulic valves, for correct functioning of
the hydraulic cylinders (loss of pressure), and for attachment of the wire sensor to the drive axle angle gauge.

NB: Any fault in the system will automatically result in the wheel steering being immediately set to
the floating position. If the error cannot be reset, continued driving with the tanker should be done
with the utmost caution. If the monitor starts emitting an alarm and the display goes blank, it means
that the power supply to the SM6000 has been disrupted. Continued driving should be done with the
utmost caution, since wheel steering will be disabled.

8.2 Calibration of the zero point

Performed when the tractor is connected for the first time or the wire has been changed.

Wheel steering
Key 4: “CAL”
switch

Key OK

All angle gauges for wheel steering have been calibrated at the factory. When connecting the tractor, a new
zero point will have to be set.
This is done as follows:

User menu 5.0:

Hold the Auto/Reset switch for wheel steering in the Reset position while driving forward on level ground.
When all wheels/vehicle are in a straight line, press Key 4 until “CAL” flashes, and then OK once (beep for
OK). Release the Reset switch and set it to Auto.

If the vehicle is equipped with a joystick for dog-walk, this function needs to be calibrated as follows:
 Drive forward at min. 1 km/h and click the button at the front of the joystick to the left.
 Select tractor for dog-walk left.
 Calibrate as described above.
 Drive forward at min. 1 km/h and click the button at the front of the joystick to the right.
 Select tractor for dog-walk right.
 Calibrate as described above.
SAMSON AGRO A/S
User manual 3.3 3B Page 20 of 71

In Auto: If an error occurs in the system (shown as “Err xx” in the display), this can be cancelled by moving
the switch to Reset and then to Auto. If the error cannot be cancelled, you may in some instances be able to
continue driving by initially setting the switch to Reset and then leaving it in the “locked” position (centre).
NB: This locks the wheel steering and automatic wheel steering is deactivated.

Status messages are

shown as: Err xx

A list of error messages can be found in section 32.

8.3 Adjustment/activation of automatic wheel lock

The wheel steering has a function whereby the wheels can be locked when driving straight forward at a
certain speed. This function is used to stabilise the vehicle when driving at top speed, where even a little play
in the connection between tractor and trailer can lead to an unintended deviation in the steering. The wheel
steering lock is set about 3 km/h lower than the tractor’s maximum speed.

9 Dogwalk wheel steering

9.1 PASSIVE dog-walk on 4-wheel-drive tractors (e.g. Claas Xerion)

Use of SAMSON wheel steering and passive dog-walk:

Description of function:
In user menu 5.1, you can decide whether wheel steering should always be active or if it should be
deactivated when spreading is ON.
When wheel steering is deactivated (= YES in 5.1), it is only deactivated
when spreading is ON, i.e. wheel steering is in the floating position when the
spreader button has been depressed. (With this function activated, a flashing
wheel symbol appears on the display when wheel steering is deactivated.)

This function is used when dog-walking with 4-wheel-drive tractors, for example during injection.

NB: Never reverse or drive on slopes with this function activated!

For maximum safety, when operating in extreme terrain, wheel steering should always be locked in a position
pointing straight forward.

If 5.1 is set to NO, wheel steering is always active, regardless of the spreader button setting. This function is
used, for example, when working with a boom.
9.2 Practical issues in the field with SAMSON wheel steering and passive dog-walk on 4-wheel-
drive tractors

Starting injection: With the tractor and tanker driving straight forward, depress the spreader button
and then swing the 4-wheel-drive tractor into the dog-walk mode. This will prevent
incorrect steerage of the tanker.
Stopping injection: Before releasing the spreader button, straighten up the tractor and tanker (disable
the dog-walk mode on the 4-wheel-drive tractor). This will prevent incorrect
steerage of the tanker, and wheel steering is reactivated when the spreader button
is set to OFF, to enable better manoeuvring on headlands and during reversing.
SAMSON AGRO A/S
User manual 3.3 3B Page 21 of 71

9.3 ACTIVE dog-walk on 4-wheel-drive tractors (e.g. Claas Xerion, if fitted)

Use of SAMSON wheel steering and active dog-walking:

Description of function:
In user menu 5.2, you can decide whether wheel steering should always be active or whether it should be
possible to offset wheel steering to the right or the left via the dog-walk switch on the joystick.
9.3.1.1 On the front of the joystick, there is a switch that can either be ON to
the right, ON to the left or OFF in the centre position: see picture.

9.3.1.2 This switch activates the dog-walk function on wheel steering, i.e.
when the tractor is dog-walked to the right, this switch is pressed,
which makes the wheel steering accept the changed angle between
tractor and trailer without trying to change the direction (requires
prior calibration in Code 75).

9.3.1.3 While this dog-walk function is active, wheel steering will be 100%
active and allows turning and reversing in this mode.

The monitor will show which side is activated for dog-walking:

When dog-walk is activated, the symbols

and will light up on the side selected.

This sketch shows dog-walking being activated to the right:

Safety features in dog-walking mode:

The dog-walk system cannot be offset at speeds of less than 1 km/h (to prevent damage to tyres and
wheels), but if the system is active and the speed inadvertently falls below 1 km/h, the system will remain
active.

The dog-walk system can be activated for speeds up to 20 km/h. At speeds above 20 km/h, the system will
automatically be deactivated and can only be re-activated by reducing the speed to below 20 km/h and
pressing the switch initially to the OFF position and then back to ON.

This function is used when you wish to actively undertake dog-walking with a 4-wheel-drive tractor, for
example during injection.

NB: The dog-walk function should ALWAYS be deactivated before driving on public roads.

speed for driving on roads. When using this function and exceeding the maximum speed, an alarm
will beep. Important: If attempting to fold/unfold the wings of the drip hose boom while driving too
fast, an alarm will beep, and the and the speed reading will flash in the display to warn about
the excessive speed.
 If stopping involuntarily in the field during spreading, the control valve waits 4 seconds before a safety
shutdown to give you time to restart. A shutdown will likewise happen if you fail to start up or start too
slowly.
 If you have set the opening on the dosage valve to 0% by mistake, the system will slowly open the
dosage valve to get the slurry through the flow gauge.
 Only fully hydraulic: If maximum pressure is exceeded during loading, an audible alarm will sound. At
the same time, the flashing P on Key 6 will flash up the current pressure.

Alarms not related to dosing

If there are errors on wheel steering, the alarm will beep and the display will show the text ‘Wheel’ (only Frank
Poulsen wheel steering).
For automatic folding in/out of the boom or incorporator, the alarm will beep (same alarm as with wing
function) while the hydraulic function is working.
With the timer function active on the A or C switch, the alarm will beep for the time set under the relevant
function.

Pressure transmitters with errors are shown as “Err. xx” in the display.

12 Description of job data

It is possible to collect data from 18 different jobs, 1-18.
The following data is measured for each job:
 Area covered (ha)
 Distance driven
 Time of operation (start/stop watch)
 Volume (m³) spread
 Driving time = time used when slurry is not applied (info only available on printer report)
 Slurry application time = time used when slurry is applied (info only available on printer report)

When starting a new job, a job number will need to be selected.

If resetting the whole job at this point, the ‘time of operation’ (start/stop watch) will start automatically. (NB.
See ‘Description of data input’).
Hereafter, you will have to stop and start the ‘time of operation’ stopwatch yourself if you interrupt the job and
restart the same job later.
The ‘stopwatch’ function can be started and stopped by pressing ‘Key 12’ for 2 seconds. If the symbol
‘Watch’ flashes in the top right-hand corner of the display, the ‘time of operation’ function has started. (NB:
Can only be done when NOT in setup.)
NB: Please note that for all jobs the data recorded are for the implement that was used. For example, when
driving in incorporator 1 mode for which data are recorded, these data will not be displayed if switching, for
example, to boom 2 mode before the job no. data are registered.

Job 0 is the slurry tanker’s accumulative “time counter” and cannot be deleted.

17 User setup
17.1 Implement

The user must ensure that the computer is set up for:

 The right type of incorporator or boom
 The right working width
 The right ‘density’ suitable for the actual slurry to be spread.
Up to 3 types of incorporator and 2 types of boom can be selected, which may take different lengths of time
to, respectively, lower and raise and fold and unfold (input in Code 10, menu no. 181.1 to 186.2).
We recommend:
 Boom 1. “Small” boom with short times (e.g. a 24-m boom working as a 16-m boom).
 Boom 2. “Large” boom with longer times (e.g. a 24 m boom).
 Boom 3. “Splash plate”. Boom 3 has no pre-set time for moving the boom up/down or an alarm for
the distributor switch in the centre position.
 Incorp. 1. Incorporator with short times (e.g. incorporator for black soil).
 Incorp. 2. Incorporator with longer times (e.g. incorporator with drip-stop).
 Incorp. 3. Incorporator with large working width (e.g. SAMSON TD12).

NB: If “PIC” is selected in the machine setup menu 90.0, the equipment will be shown as follows:
Incorporator 1, 2 and 3 remain 1, 2 and 3 (shown as “imp” in P3 plus the number of the implement).
Boom 1, 2 and 3 are changed to 4, 5 and 6 (shown as “imp” in P3 plus the number of the implement).
This means that there are still 6 different implements to choose from.

There is a choice of 9 different standard working widths, each of which can be adjusted.

17.2 Flow gauge

You can use the value for density to adjust the flow gauge to the actual slurry being spread. NB: the number
will normally be 1.00 for water and the input value cannot be lower than 0.7 to prevent errors. The density can
be entered manually or calculated automatically. You can read how much is being spread and if you know the
volume actually being spread, you can enter this number and a new density will be calculated.

Daily calibration of the flow gauge is performed as follows:

 The tank is completely filled (remember to deactivate filling instructions in machine setup 61) and
then completely emptied.
 Press Key 3 for 2 seconds for “user setup” and then Key 1 ‘arrow down’ to ‘menu 2.0’. On this side,
press “CAL” by Key 4 to calibrate. This displays the amount applied, measured by the tanker’s flow
gauge.
 Press “rear” by Key 6 and the actual tank content will be shown.
 Press Key 1 “OK” to enable the computer to calculate and display the new density value.

This calibration should be carried out every time you start filling slurry from a new slurry holding tank.
For access to user setup press Key 3 for 2
seconds

19 SM Joystick (optional extra)

NOTE: A joystick with new functions is now included for even more
optimal operation. Please be aware that there are various joystick operating modes
for 2- and 3-panel monitors.

SlurryMaster6000 can be equipped with a joystick capable of steering most of the control functions.
The joystick consists of a unit with a joystick and 2 switches with the following properties:
The joystick has 4 double-action functions: up/down, right/left, turn right/left, push-buttons right/left.
The top switch has 2 settings for selecting the filling mode (pump tower symbol) and spreading mode (splash
plate).
The bottom switch has 3 settings for selecting the 3 different series of functions for filling and spreading.
New 3-position switch for the active dog-walk function (see wheel steering for more information)

All joystick functions have a standard position that cannot be changed.

A diagram of the joystick functions can be found towards the back of this manual.

Installation: To make the SM Joystick work, the SlurryMaster6000 must have program version 10 or later
installed. All SlurryMaster6000 control systems can be updated to a ‘Joystick’ version.
It may be advantageous to install the SM Joystick in connection with an armrest for the driver’s seat so that it
can be operated from a comfortable position.
A Can Bus cable from the slurry tanker is fitted in the SM Joystick and a short connecting cable connects the
SM Joystick to the SlurryMaster6000 monitor.

Operation: The SM Joystick is ready for use as soon as the control system is switched on. For safety
reasons, the SM Joystick has been fitted with a timed switch-off function, which switches the joystick off when
it has not been used for a certain period.
The SM joystick can be unlocked by turning the joystick to the side until a beep is heard.

On Key 5 on the monitor: Mode

as indicator for an active joystick

NB: The top switch is used to start and stop slurry spreading. This is set in spreading mode and the first time
you start to spread after power has been switched off or after a power failure, the switch on the monitor
should be used. Starting and stopping are subsequently controlled via the joystick. The switch on the monitor
for spreading should be left in the ON position.

19.1 Camera monitor

You can now choose to let the joystick switch between 2 cameras on the tanker (only on tankers with
a factory-installed camera and joystick). Please contact SAMSON AGRO A/S for more information.

This is done by fitting a cable from A12 on the slave decentral

to the blue cable on the camera monitor

This function is activated by the joystick's Spread/Load switch

When the switch is in the Load mode, camera 1 is active, and when it is changed to the Spread mode, 12 V
is supplied from A12 to the blue information cable on the camera monitor, which automatically switches to
camera 2.

NB: Always switch to camera 1 before the 12 V to the slave decentral is disconnected.

Camera monitor installation:

Red cable: 12 volt plus.
Red/black cable: minus

We recommend that you mount the camera monitor in a convenient position for the driver so that it is easy to

20 Section distributor
20.1 System description

The section distributor is linked to the switch for spreading. With spreading ON (the distributor starts, the first
spade opens, the control valve opens), all spade valves open automatically starting with the longest hoses. A
fan shape is therefore avoided at start-up. The same procedure is used with spreading OFF, with the longest
hoses closing first. With spreading OFF, the distributor is reset so that start-up always happens from the
same place. This reset also takes place the first time the 12V cable and hydraulics are connected.

During spreading, the 2 switches on panel A can be opened or closed. When changing the working width, the
computer automatically compensates for the altered working width. E.g. at 25 m³/ha, this figure will not
change, but m³/min will rise and fall as appropriate.
On the monitor, the working width is adjusted as described in the user manual 2.5, under ‘User set-up’.
NB: Maximum aperture in % of the dosing valve = menu 112.2.

20.2 Slurry spreading

When Key 8 is pressed, the display will show the width selected to each side: dose rate, selected working
width, percentage of the working width that is active, and whether zero points are active at spreading OFF.

20.3 Operating the wedge spreading switch

Pressing the switch DOWN briefly closes one section at a time, i.e. a 1-metre section is closed with each
press starting from the outermost valve, moving into the centre and onto the opposite side, until the whole
length has been closed.
A longer press DOWN closes the entire current side from the outermost valve to the centre.

Pressing the switch UP briefly opens one section at a time, i.e. a 1-metre section is opened with each press,
starting from the outermost valve, moving into the centre and onto the opposite side, until the whole length
has been opened.
A longer press UP opens the entire current side from the outermost valve to the centre.

The computer will automatically open/close 1-metre sections with each press of the switch. (If you wish to
change this default, you can do so in Code 72 in menu 111.6: number of spade valves per click of the control
switch, std. 1m/1 section.)

20.4 User menu 4.0 (Key 3)

Should be set to NO when changing to another implement (automatically changes to YES when the 13-pin
plug for the section distributor is connected, if zero calibration is active). If the wedge spreading function is
not required, you can – when all spade valves are open – enter NO in 4.0.

20.5 Slurry spreading

When spreading is started (spreading switch ON), the computer will run the following sequence:
 Start the distributor rotor
 Open the first spade valve
 Open the control valve
 Open all spade valves automatically
For safety reasons, when the switch is in the OFF position, the zero point must be found first before restarting
the sequence. This is done automatically. Both zero point sensors need to be active to be able to find the
zero point.
If the gear runs too slowly when trying to find the zero point, the oil engine will reverse the direction of flow
and step backwards to find the zero point.

In the illustrated example, double

dosing is reduced by 95% at each
passage

Starting wedge shaped spreading as illustrated

The steering will automatically reduce the openings to ¼ of what has been entered into the computer. This is
to safeguard against overdosing and hoses to the spreader bursting, since only a few holes are open
in the spreader! (See: Operation of Slurrymaster 6000 when starting wedge spreading.)

20.8 Operation of SlurryMaster 6000 when starting wedge spreading

 Before switching spreading to ON:

 First simultaneously press the 2 switches for driving in a wedge shape and let go when the display
shows 0 active valves to L and R sides.
 Opening % is automatically changed to ¼ of its previous value.
 Turn switch for spreading to ON (the control valve is not opened until the first valve opens).
 In this example, spreading will not start until a section on the left-hand side has been opened (Left
switch 1 press UP).
 This function can be deactivated by returning the spreader switch to the OFF position.

To open all spades, continue with the left switch until they all are opened. For a 24-m working width, the
display will show 12 spades on the left-hand side and 12 spades on the right-hand side.

In wide angle wedge-shaped parts of field (where rapid opening of the spades from one side of the boom to
the other is required), it is best to choose a long press UP. This will open all the spades on the side that is
initially activated (active working width changes to 12 on a 24-m boom). To open the opposite side, activate
the switch once more.
The same procedure can also be used for the shut down function.
You can also choose an extended press, even if you started with a short press.

8 When left-hand switch is held DOWN: the large gear wheel will run in the left-hand direction: CW
9 Check that spades and gear wheels run smoothly
10 All spades must be closed so that the sensors are positioned correctly (zero point sensor and Reed
sensor). When the right-hand (R) inductive base point sensor lights up and the zero point Reed sensor
is in line with the magnet, the R zero point indicator on the monitor will show “1” at Key 5. The same is
done for the left-hand (L) side
11 Once this has been done, the monitor will show “1 1” at Key 5. Remember to check that the zero point
sensor records for the correct side
12 Check the pulse sensor: This should flash every time a tap (8 mm bolt) on the small gear wheel fitted
on the oil motor travels past
13 The overpressure valve of the section distributor should be adjusted to 160 bar. To do this, first loosen
the overpressure valve, then dismantle one of the connectors on the directional valve of the distributor
and move the wedge drive switch in the direction matching the disrupted function. This is done using a
manometer on the P port for the directional valve. Then adjust the overpressure valve
14 Test menu 190.8: Press Key 5 once: <1/O> is switched off and the system is ready for auto operation
15 Auto operation: Spreading ON runs the large gear wheels as described under points 7 and 8. Check
also that the large gear wheels stop when all the spades are open

21.1 Status response from section distributor

Zero point alarm

A return response is received quickly from the section distributor if zero point detection is ‘missed’ when
spreading is OFF (faulty sensor or hydraulics). If the zero point is not found within seconds, the symbol
changes under Key 8 (if not shown) and 0 (the number not found) will flash. It will also indicate to which side
the zero point cannot be found. This function also applies to ordinary zero point detection (in the spreading
OFF position, adjustment to zero point is a regular occurrence). The is no audible alarm for this function.
If the error cannot be found, you can continue driving by opening all spades via the test menu (Keys 1 and 6)
and choose “NO” in user menu 4.0.

To cancel this error status, you can access test menu 190.8 directly from the symbol under Key 8. The
distributor can now be operated manually (see points 5 to 15 above).

Spade pulse alarm

When spreading is switched to ON and no pulses from the oil motors that open the spades have been
detected, an error message will quickly flash up on the monitor. If the number of pulses is not correct after a
few seconds, the symbol will change under Key 8 (if it is not shown) and the number of spades not found will
flash up. Spread OFF will cancel this alarm.
If the error cannot be found, you can continue driving by opening all spades via the test menu and choose
“NO” in user menu 4.0.
