COURSE STRUCTURE

Mathematical Foundation of Computing-II


SEMESTER – II
Course Code: 23ASH1107 Course Credits: 03
Teaching Hours / Week (L: T: P): 2:1:0 CA Marks: 50
Total Number of Teaching Hours: 30 END-SEM Marks: 50
Course Pre-requisites: Basic Algebra, Basic Calculus-Differentiation/Integration.

Course Description:
a. In this course students will learn foundational part of Linear algebra, complex numbers and part
of calculus.
b. This course provides an overview of Matrices, Vector spaces, Complex Numbers, Differential
and Integral calculus and Fourier series.
c. Students learn about finding rank, rank of matrices, solution of equations using complex
numbers, standard integrals, Fourier series representation of periodic functions.
Course Learning Objectives:
The main purpose of this course is to:
1. Understand System of linear equations and linear transformations arising in all engineering fields,
and their solution using matrix methods.
2. Understand linear algebraic structure and its applicability in different engineering fields.
3. Prepare adequate background to understand theory of complex numbers and solve the problem
involving algebraic and transcendental equations.
4. Understand concepts of mean value theorems, differential calculus and expansion of functions.
5. Introduce Integral calculus and Fourier series representation of periodic functions for
conversion time domain function to frequency domain functions and Techniques to evaluate
some improper integrals.
Course Outcome:
After learning this course, the students will be able to:
1. Understand applications of matrices to analyze system of linear equations, linear and orthogonal
transformations, and applicability in engineering fields.
2. Resolve the problems based on linear algebraic structure- vector spaces.
3. Solution of algebraic equations using complex numbers and acquire the basic knowledge of
hyperbolic functions.
4. Apply differential calculus and expansion of function in solving engineering problems.
5. Express periodic function in terms of Fourier sine and Fourier cosine series, evaluate
complicated and evaluate improper integrals by using reduction formulae and Beta- Gamma
functions respectively.
