CONTENT:
Introduction: (2)
Mention the critical water situation in the Western Cape and the need for people to
change their water usage habits/call on people to start saving water.
Body (10)
We should show that the points given have been expanded. Award marks for
creativity (Do not be restricted by the points in the question)
• Quick shower/ bath out of bucket
• Do dishes in a basin
• Fewer washing loads
• Re-use grey water
• Do not use a hosepipe to clean your car. Or any other relevant
point.
• According to the marker’s discretion, give an extra mark for a student’s
creativity.
Conclusion (3)
Any relevant conclusion ends with a positive note showing that our efforts to save
the little water left in our dams will not be in vain. Encourage people to save
water.

Mention that you attended a residents’ meeting on 24 August 2018, about the
delays from City council to fix burst water pipes and leaking taps. Express
disappointment on behalf of the residents.

Explain possible causes of water pipe bursts and leaking taps e.g. old pipes and
vandalism by thieves who steal and sell metal taps to the scrap yard
You noted with concern that despite numerous complaints the City Council does not
respond timeously.
Mention that the community is losing a lot of water, and the inconvenience of water
cuts every time there is a burst water pipe.
Suggest a solution to the above-mentioned problems e.g. replace old pipes and
replace metal water taps in public areas with plastic ones/ Call on the council to
act/respond swiftly to any complaints submitted.
