Grade 7 Science Revision

Guide - Cambridge Lower

Secondary
Covers: Units 1 to 9 (excluding last 2 lessons of Units 7 and 8)

This revision guide is designed to help you review the key ideas,
terms, and concepts from the science topics covered in Grade 7.

Unit 1: Cells and Organisms

 - Cells are the basic building blocks of life.
 - Animal cells have: nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane.
 - Plant cells have: nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall,
chloroplasts, vacuole.
 - Red blood cells lack a nucleus to carry more oxygen.
 - Microscopes are used to observe cells.

Unit 2: States of Matter

 - Solid: particles tightly packed in fixed positions.
 - Liquid: particles close but can move past each other.
 - Gas: particles far apart and move freely.
 - Changes of state: melting, boiling, condensation, freezing,
sublimation.

Unit 3: Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures

 - Element: a pure substance made of only one type of atom.
 - Compound: a substance made from two or more elements
chemically joined.
 - Mixture: a combination of substances not chemically joined.
 - Water is a compound. Air is a mixture.

Unit 4: Forces and Energy

 - Forces can be contact (e.g., friction) or non-contact (e.g.,
gravity).
 - Weight = mass × gravitational field strength.
 - Energy types: kinetic, potential, chemical, thermal.
 - Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred.

Unit 5: Ecosystems
 - Ecosystem: a community of organisms interacting with their
environment.
 - Producers make food (e.g., plants), consumers eat other
organisms.
 - Decomposers break down dead matter and return nutrients.
 - Food chains show how energy flows between organisms.

Unit 6: Sound
 - Sound is caused by vibrations and travels as a wave.
 - Needs a medium to travel (solid, liquid, gas).
 - Pitch is how high or low a sound is; loudness is how strong it is.
 - Sound cannot travel through a vacuum.

Unit 7: Earth and Space (excluding last 2 lessons)

 - The Earth has layers: crust, mantle, outer core, inner core.
 - The mantle is made of molten rock and moves slowly.
 - The inner core is solid due to high pressure.
Unit 8: Magnetism and Electricity (excluding last 2
lessons)
 - Electric circuits need a power source, wires, and a device (e.g.,
bulb).
 - A closed circuit allows current to flow.
 - Electrons flow through conductors and light up a bulb.
 - Switches open and close a circuit.

Unit 9: Scientific Investigation

 - A fair test changes only one variable at a time.
 - Measurements should be accurate and repeated.
 - Use tables and charts to record results and draw conclusions.
