Another crucial moral is kindness. Kindness involves being compassionate and considerate
towards others. It's about treating people with respect and empathy, regardless of our differences.
For instance, helping a classmate who is struggling with their homework shows kindness and
generosity.
Respect is also a fundamental moral value. Respecting others means valuing their opinions,
feelings, and boundaries. It involves treating people fairly and not discriminating against them based
on factors like race, gender, or religion. Respecting our elders, teachers, and peers creates a

PASSAGE A
Being fair to all, regardless of their status or influence, is a fundamental principle that underpins
a just and equitable society. Fairness means treating everyone with impartiality, considering their
rights, needs, and circumstances without favouritism or discrimination based on social standing or
power.
In schools, fairness is essential to creating a conducive learning environment where every
student has equal opportunities to succeed. It involves fair assessment practices, unbiased
treatment in disciplinary matters, and fostering an inclusive classroom where diversity is celebrated.
In the workplace, fairness ensures that employees are evaluated based on merit and
performance rather than personal connections or influence. Fairness in hiring, promotions, and
decision-making processes promotes morale, productivity, and a sense of belonging among
employees.
In communities, fairness translates into equitable access to resources, services, and
opportunities for all residents. It means advocating for policies and practices that address systemic
inequalities and promote social justice.
Fairness also extends to interpersonal relationships, where individuals strive to be fair in their
dealings with others, resolving conflicts fairly, and respecting others' perspectives and rights. In
conclusion, fairness is not just a moral virtue but a cornerstone of a harmonious and thriving society
where everyone can contribute and flourish irrespective of their background or status.

Healthy eating is crucial for maintaining a strong body and mind. A balanced diet includes a
variety of foods from all the food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and dairy. Fruits
and vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals, which are important for growth and
development. Grains, especially whole grains, offer energy and fibre. Protein foods such as meat,
beans, and nuts help build and repair body tissues, while dairy products like milk and cheese provide
calcium for strong bones and teeth.
Eating a variety of foods ensures that we get the nutrients we need to stay healthy. It's also
important to drink plenty of water and limit sugary drinks and snacks, which can lead to health
problems like tooth decay and obesity. Regular meals and snacks throughout the day keep our
energy levels stable and help us concentrate better in school and during other activities.
Making healthy food choices can be fun and delicious. Trying new fruits and vegetables,
experimenting with different recipes, and cooking with family can make healthy eating enjoyable.
Remember, a healthy diet is one of the best ways to take care of our bodies and feel our best every
day.

Sarah was excited. It was the day of her school's annual trip, and this time, they were going to
visit the Magical Forest. The forest was known for its tall trees, colourful flowers, and the friendly
animals that lived there. Everyone in Sarah's class had been talking about it for weeks.
As the bus approached the entrance of the forest, Sarah could hardly sit still. She had heard
stories about the glowing butterflies, the talking birds, and the sparkling streams that flowed through
the forest. Her teacher, Mrs. Green, reminded everyone to stay close and listen carefully to the
guide, Mr. Woods.
Once inside, Sarah's class followed Mr. Woods down a narrow path. The trees were so tall that
their tops seemed to touch the sky. The air was fresh, and the sound of birds chirping filled the
forest. They soon came across a stream with crystal-clear water. Mr. Woods explained that this
stream was special because it was home to tiny fish that glowed in the dark.
As they continued their walk, Sarah spotted something shiny on the ground. It was a small,
golden key. She picked it up and showed it to Mrs. Green, who smiled and said it was a lucky charm
often found in the Magical Forest. Sarah was thrilled and carefully put the key in her pocket.
The group then arrived at a clearing where a giant oak tree stood. The tree was ancient, with a
thick trunk and branches that spread out like giant arms. Mr. Woods explained that this tree was the
heart of the forest and that it had magical powers. He told the children that if they stood quietly and
closed their eyes, they might hear the tree whisper secrets of the forest.
Sarah closed her eyes tightly and listened. She thought she could hear a soft voice telling her to
always be kind and take care of nature. When she opened her eyes, she felt a sense of calm and
happiness.
The trip ended with a visit to the Flower Meadow, where the students picked wildflowers to take
home. Sarah knew she would never forget her adventure in the Magical Forest and the golden key
that now hung around her neck on a piece of string.

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.
Last Saturday, Mrs. Ade and her class of Primary 6 pupils took a trip to the National Zoo. It was
an exciting adventure for the kids, who were thrilled to see the different animals they had read about
in their science textbooks. As they arrived at the zoo, they were welcomed by the sound of chirping
birds, howling monkeys, and trumpeting elephants. The pupils were divided into small groups and
assigned a tour guide who took them around the zoo.
The first animal the pupils saw was the lion, king of the jungle. They watched in awe as the
majestic beast roared and strutted around his enclosure. They were impressed by the lion's thick
mane and sharp teeth. The tour guide explained to them that lions are carnivores and hunt for their
food. Next, the pupils saw a group of monkeys swinging from tree to tree in their large enclosure.
They were amused by the monkeys' playful behaviour as they jumped around and made funny
noises. The tour guide informed them that monkeys are very intelligent animals and can
communicate with each other using different sounds and body language.
As they moved on, they came across the giraffes, the tallest animals in the world. The pupils
were amazed by the giraffes' long necks and legs. They watched as they gracefully walked around
their enclosure and ate leaves from tall trees. The tour guide told them that giraffes can grow up to
18 feet tall and can run at speeds of up to 57 kilometers per hour.
The pupils also saw a group of elephants, the largest land animals. They were fascinated by
the elephants' trunks, which they used to eat, drink, and communicate with other elephants. The
pupils learned that elephants have a great memory and can remember things for a very long time.
Finally, the tour ended at the reptile house, where the pupils saw different species of snakes, lizards,
and turtles. They were both fascinated and scared by the sight of some of the snakes, especially the
ones with venom. The tour guide explained to them that snakes are very important in the ecosystem
and help control the population of other animals.
After the tour, the pupils were treated to ice cream and snacks at the zoo's cafeteria. They
shared stories about what they had seen and learned during the tour. They all agreed that it was an
exciting and educational experience.

PASSAGE B
One of the most important values we can cultivate as human beings is helping others. Whether
it's lending a hand to someone in need, providing emotional support, or volunteering time and
resources to a charitable cause, the act of giving is not only beneficial to those who receive but also
to those who give. Helping others can take many different forms, from small acts of kindness like
holding the door open for someone, to more significant commitments like volunteering at a soup
kitchen or donating money to a charity. Regardless of the scale of our actions, the act of helping
others can have a positive impact on both the giver and receiver.
One of the most significant benefits of helping others is the sense of fulfillment it can bring to
our lives. When we help someone else, we experience a sense of satisfaction and purpose that can
be hard to find elsewhere. Helping others can also give us a sense of perspective and appreciation
for the things we have in our own lives. Another benefit of helping others is the way it can bring
people together. Whether it's through a shared volunteering experience or simply the act of being
kind to someone, helping others can help build relationships and strengthen communities.
Of course, helping others is not always easy. It can be challenging to find the time or resources
to make a significant impact, and sometimes our efforts may not be appreciated or reciprocated.
However, the act of giving can be its own reward, and even small gestures of kindness can make a
significant difference in someone's life.
In conclusion, helping others is a vital part of being a compassionate and responsible human
being. It can bring us a sense of fulfillment, help us build relationships, and make a positive impact
on the world around us.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning when Mrs. Olu took her Primary 6 class on an excursion to
the beach. The kids were excited and could hardly wait to get there. When they arrived, the pupils

PASSAGE B
Compassion is the ability to feel empathy towards others and to show kindness and
understanding towards them. It is a vital part of being a good person, and it is especially important
when dealing with those who are less privileged than ourselves. The less privileged members of
society are often the ones who are most in need of our help and support. By being compassionate
towards them, we can make a significant difference in their lives.
There are many ways in which we can show compassion towards the less privileged. One of
the most effective ways is to simply listen to them. Often, people who are less privileged feel as
though their voices are not heard and that their opinions do not matter. By taking the time to listen to
them, we can help them to feel valued and understood. This can make a huge difference in their
lives and can help to boost their confidence and self-esteem.
Another way to show compassion towards the less privileged is to offer them practical help and
support. This could be something as simple as donating food or clothing to a homeless shelter or
volunteering at a local charity. By doing this, we can help to improve the lives of those who are less
fortunate than ourselves and can show them that there are people who care about them. It is also
important to be mindful of the language we use when talking to the less privileged. Often, people
who are less privileged can feel as though they are being judged or looked down upon. By using
positive language and avoiding negative stereotypes, we can help to create a more inclusive and
welcoming environment for everyone.
In addition to these practical steps, it is also important to be emotionally supportive towards
those who are less privileged. Many people who are struggling with poverty, illness or other
difficulties can feel isolated and alone. By being there for them and offering them emotional support,
we can help to ease their burden and show them that they are not alone. Ultimately, being
compassionate towards the less privileged is about treating them with respect, kindness and
understanding. By doing so, we can help to make the world a better place for everyone.
6. What is compassion?
A. The ability to feel empathy towards others and show kindness towards them.
B. The ability to make money and donate to charity.
C. The ability to judge people based on their social status.
D. The ability to ignore those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

In a beautiful village settled between rolling hills, there stood an old library that was no
ordinary one. It was whispered among the villagers that this library was fascinating, and its
books held magical tales that came to life when read with a pure heart.
One sunny morning, a curious young girl named Amina decided to visit the library. As she
entered, she was greeted by the musty smell of old books and the soft glow of sunlight filtering
through stained glass windows. A kind librarian named Mr. Thompson welcomed her and
handed her a book titled "The Secret Garden".
As Amina opened the book, she was immediately transported to a lush garden filled with
vibrant flowers and friendly talking animals. She felt the cool breeze on her face and heard the
gentle rustling of leaves. Amina was in awe of the magical world she had stepped into.

hands.
With gratitude in her heart, Amina thanked Mr. Thompson and left the library, knowing that

THE REWARDS OF HARD WORK
Imagine a world where success comes easily, where dreams are realized without any effort.
Such a world seems almost too good to be true, doesn't it? The reality, however, is quite
different. The world we live in values hard work and dedication as the pathways to success.
Hard work is like a sculptor's chisel that shapes raw talent into greatness. Just as a sculptor
chips away at a block of stone to create a masterpiece, hard work carves our skills and abilities
into something remarkable. Take the example of a musician who spends hours practicing scales
and melodies. Their fingers might ache, and their patience might wear thin, but the result is a
mesmerizing performance that leaves the audience in awe.
Hard work also helps us overcome challenges that may seem insurmountable at first. Think
about a student preparing for an important exam. The process of studying, revising, and
understanding complex concepts can be demanding. But as the student persists, step by step,
the challenging material becomes familiar territory. The sense of accomplishment that comes
from conquering difficulties is a reward in itself, proving that hard work is more than just a means
to an end – it's a journey of growth.
In the grand tapestry of life, hard work weaves a thread of determination that connects our
ambitions to reality. Whether it's a scientist striving to find a breakthrough, an athlete training
rigorously to achieve excellence or an artist perfecting their craft, hard work is the common
denominator. It brings focus, resilience, and a sense of purpose. So, the next time you're faced
with a task that seems daunting, remember that with hard work, you possess the key to unlock
your potential and open the door to success.
1. What analogy is used to describe how hard work shapes skills and abilities?
A. A painter's brush. B. A sculptor's chisel.
C. A writer's pen. D. A chef's knife.

PASSAGE B
In today's world, the battle against corruption is more crucial than ever. Corruption, like a
dark cloud, can cast a shadow over a nation's progress and prosperity. Shunning corruption
means choosing the path of honesty, transparency, and integrity. It's a collective effort that
requires individuals, communities, and governments to stand united against this destructive
force.
Corruption is like a parasite that feeds on the trust and resources of a society. When
individuals in positions of power abuse their authority for personal gain, the entire nation suffers.
Funds that could have been used to improve schools, hospitals, and public infrastructure are
siphoned off, leaving citizens to bear the brunt of inadequate services. Shunning corruption
means rejecting this unethical behaviour and demanding accountability from those in power.
Choosing to shun corruption is a reflection of one's character. It's about doing what is right,
even when no one is watching. When a student refuses to cheat on an exam or a public servant
resists taking bribes, they are standing up for the values that define them. Just as a lighthouse
guides ships safely through stormy seas, integrity guides individuals and nations towards a
brighter future.
The fight against corruption requires education and awareness. Students must learn about
the consequences of corruption on a nation's growth and development. They must understand
that their future depends on making the right choices, even if those choices are challenging.
When a nation's youth takes a stand against corruption, the foundation for a better and more just
society is laid.

Today we see writing all around us. There is writing in books, on signs, and on computer
screens. Most children learn to read and write at an early age and use these skills to gather and
share information in books, magazines, letters, and e-mail messages. Businesses depend on written
words to communicate and to sell products. Governments rely on written documents as the basis for
their laws. We would be lost without writing.
The earliest people had no system of writing. Writing developed over thousands of years in
different cultures around the world. Peoples in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Crete, China, and
elsewhere all made important contributions. Before writing as we know it existed, drawings were
used as a form of communication. Rock drawings have been found in many places. One rock
drawing in a mountainous region of New Mexico shows a mountain goat standing up and a man
riding a horse upside down. Archaeologists believe that the drawing was a warning to riders that the
trail was too steep.
Modern forms of writing began when people learned to use symbols, such as letters and words,
to stand for ideas. At first, they used pictures that stood for words. For example, a picture might
show a hunter, the weapons the hunter used, and a pair of deer the hunter killed. Further
developments occurred in Mesopotamia, where people known as Sumerians learned to use the
same symbols to stand for different words. The writing used by ancient Egyptians used symbols
known as hieroglyphs. It was similar to the writing of the Sumerians.
Even greater advances were made in China about 3500 years ago. The Chinese used tens of
thousands of signs. With their system, they could write proper names and new words. This, however,
was a knotty system. To make writing easier, things had to be simplified in some way. The answer
was the development of alphabets. The Phoenicians are often credited with developing one of the
first useful alphabets. The Phoenician alphabet used about 20 or 30 signs. They were well on their
way to at least one type of modern writing because, as we know, the modern English alphabet uses
26 letters.
