Source 2 Major types of family life in Hong Kong(2019)
In 2019, Hong Kong Family Welfare Society commissioned the Chinese University of
Hong Kong to conduct a survey on ‘Hong Kong Family Wellbeing Index’ (HKFWI). They
interviewed 1,343 Hong Kong residents who are 18 years old or above and live with their
families.
The results of the survey identified six categories that affect family wellbeing, including
family solidarity, family resources, family health, social connection, social resources, and work-
life balance. The results showed that the average score of HKFWI in 2019 was 6.23. Among the
six categories, ‘family solidarity’ was the highest scored category with a score of 7.41, while
‘work-life balance’ ranked the lowest at 4.45. It shows that that Hong Kong people work long
hours and thus lack family life.

claimed that her family wellbeing was poor a few years ago when she was in an upswing period
of her career. She missed the growth of her children as they were looked after by the domestic
