FINAL EXAMINATION IN ENGINEERING DATA ANALYSIS

Instruction:

1. Save this workbook and the pdf file in your name as LASTIMADO_FINAL EXAM
2. Place your answers in excel file for your computation and pdf file for your final summary of each problems.
3. The same assignement tab where you will turn in your answer for this examination.
4. The bulk of the grade is in the interpretation of the data because this involves critical thinking skills.
5. Kindly observe the point values. Your answer must be substantial enough to earn full credit.
6. Total points is 100. Good luck.

Thoughts on modeling: "In the randomness of things in this world, there must be some pattern…
and this pattern can be expressed in mathematical form."
Engr. Lastimado
PROBLEM NO. 1

The following data represent the usage of electriciy during the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
From a sample of 50 lower middle class residential houses in Zamboanga City.

1. Construct an appropriate visual model/s for the data. 15 points

2. What information does the model convey? Explain 15 points
(Kindly do not repeat in textual form what has been graphically represented)

(1) VISUAL MODEL

(2) EXPLANATION

The model provides certain systematic information such as how many middle class families consume less power? Average power? More power than usual? (power is in KwH) during the start of
the pandemic in March 2020.

Problem No. 2:
In an experiment involving the development/redesign of an innovative light bulb, 40 100-W samples were tested for length of service life (in hours)
before the innovation was introduced and 40 100-W light bulbs were sampled after the innovation was
introduced.

a) Compare and contrast the visual models of the 2 sets of data 10 points
b) Was the innovation effective? Explain your answer. Be specific. 10 points

a) Compare and Contrast b) Explain

- Yes. The innovation was indeed effective. If we

look at the graph, the innovated light bulbs
exceed the non-innovated ones in terms of
length of service life by about 1/4.

Problem 3: Before After

The data below shows the calories and total fat, in grams per serving for a sample of 20 chicken sandwiches from fast-food chains and Stores.
a) Construct a scatterplot with the calories on the X axis and total fat on the Y axis; 10 points
b) Does there appear to be any pattern? Explain your answer quantitatively using the tools of modeling. 10 points
(A pattern should be modeled in mathematical
form).

a) Scatterplot b) Explanation

- The relationship between the predictor and the response forms a

straight line. I'd say yes. The trend is classified as a Linear pattern.
The equation also suggests the same thing. Referring to algebra, the
equation such as y = 0.0682x - 15.157- 1 is reffered to as linear
equation. One last thing that makes this pattern the best fit to the
set of data that has been given is the adjusted R^2. If I remebered it
correctly, Engineer Lastimado Stated that the higher the adjusted
R^2, the better the model.
Use any mathematical modeling that will satisfy the data given.
