Aim: To help learners to

Previous Knowledge: The learners have previous knowledge of effects of environmental pollution and
it's prevention.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to know;

 Define Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).


 Identify common examples of STIs.
 Understand how STIs are transmitted.
 Discuss the prevention of STIs.
 Recognize the importance of seeking medical care when necessary.

Methodology: Explanation and demonstration.

Teaching Aids: Whiteboard or projector, Basic Science text book for Upper basic 1

Introduction: Introduce the concept , Sexually Transmitted infections.

Presentation: The teacher presents the lesson with the following steps:

Teacher's Activity: Define STIs and explain how they are transmitted.

Learners' Activity: Learners ask questions and also contribute

Step 2:
Teacher's Activity: Effects and Prevention of STI

Learners' Activity: Learners ask questions and contribute.

Evaluation: The teacher gives learners work to be be answered orally

 State the meaning of STIs


 Explain the effects of sexually transmitted infections
 Describe one named method of preventing sexually transmitted infections

Summary: The teacher summarizes the entire lesson

 A Sexually transmitted infection is majorly transmitted through sexual intercourse.


 Common STIs include chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhoea
 Each sexually transmitted infection is caused by a particular micro organism and has it's
symptoms.
 STIs can be prevented by abstinence from unprotected sex, health education, correct and
consistent use of condom and avoiding multiple partners.

Sexually transmitted infections are illnesses that are caused by bacteria or viruses which are transmitted
through sexual intercourse with an infection person.
