(Parallel operation, 3-phase connection)

Answer the following questions if the secondary side noload voltages are different, i.e. 415 V and

407 V, respectively, and the load is 1200 KVA at 400 V with 0.85 pf lagging. Other rating of the

transformers will remain same as Q2.

(a) Calculate circulating current.


(b) Current, kVA, kW shared by each transformer.
(c) Calculate pf of each transformer.
(d) Draw the phasor diagram of voltage and current of each transformer.

3) Three 100 MVA single-phase transformers, rated at 13.8 kV /66.4 kV, are to be connected in a three
phase bank. Each transformer has a equivalent series impedance of (0.0045 +j0.19) Ω referred to its
13.8 kV winding.

(a) If the transformers are connected in Y-Y with secondary side loaded at rated current with 0.8
pf lagging, and primary side is supplied from a 13.8 kV (phase voltage) three-phase source,
calculate (i) primary side phase and line voltages at the input terminals, (ii) secondary side
phase and line voltages at the output terminals, (v) primary side line currents and phase
currents (iii) secondary side line currents and phase curents (iv) Draw the phasor diagram of

phase-a voltage.
(c) If the transformers are connected in 𝚫-Y with secondary side loaded at rated current with 0.8
pf lagging, , and primary side is supplied from a 13.8 kV (phase voltage) three-phase source,
calculate (i) primary side phase and line voltages at the input terminals, (ii) secondary side
phase and line voltages at the output terminals, (v) primary side line currents and phase
currents (iii) secondary side line currents and phase curents (iv) Draw the phasor diagram of
all the primary and secondary side voltage and current phasors with respect to primary side
phase-a voltage.
(d) Calculate efficiency of the transformer bank.
