18. In a game Mishala scored 20, -40, 10 and Meera scored -40, 10, 20. Who scored more and can we
add scores (integers) in any order?
Ans Since, Mishala scored 20, -40, 10.
Therefore, total score of Mishala is = 20 - 40 + 10
= -20 + 10
= -10
And since, Meera scored - 40, 10, 20
Therefore, total score of Meera is = -40 + 10 + 20
= -30 + 20 -10
Hence, both scored same points in a game but in a different order.
Yes, we can add integers in any order.
19. At Srinagar temperature was -5°C on Monday and then it dropped by 2°C on Tuesday. What was
the temperature of Srinagar on Tuesday? On Wednesday, it rose by 4°C. What was the temperature
on this day?
Ans Temperature on Monday -5°C
Temperature on Tuesday = Temperature on Monday - 2°C
= - 5°C - 2°C = - 7°C
Temperature on Wednesday = Temperature on Tuesday + 4°C
= -7°C + 4°C = -3°C
Therefore, the temperature on Tuesday and Wednesday was -7°C and -3°C respectively.
20. In the given figure 𝑙 ∥ 𝑚. Find the value of a, b and c.

Ans Given 𝑙 ∥ 𝑚

c = 55° (alternate interior angle)

a = 45° (alternate interior angle)

a + b + c = 180° (Angle on straight line)

45° + b + 55° = 180°

b + 100° = 180°

b = 180° - 100° = 80°

21. The sum of two consecutive natural numbers is 151. Find the numbers.

Ans let the two consecutive natural numbers be x , x + 1

A.T.Q

x + x + 1 = 151

2x + 1 = 151

2x = 151 - 1 = 150

x = 150/2 = 75

x +1 = 75 + 1 = 76

22. a) Verify 27 x [6 + (-4)] = [27 x 6] + [27 x (-4) ] and mention the property used.

Ans L.H.S 27 x [6 + (-4)] = 27 x 2 = 54

R.H.S [27 x 6] + [27 x (-4) ] = 162 + (-108)

= 54

L.H.S = R.H.S

Property : Distributive property

b) Find the value of (-27) + 127 + (-75) + (-5) .

23. There are 45 people living in a building. Out of these, 3
are men, 5
women and the rest are

children. Find the number of men, women and children living in the building.

Ans Total people = 45

1
Men = 3
✕45 = 15 men

1
Women = 5
✕45 = 9 women

Children = 45 - (15 + 9)

= 45 - 24 = 21

24. In the given figure 𝑙∥𝑚 . Find the measure of angles a, b, c and d.

25. Find the value of x, y and z from the given figure.

Ans z = 40° (vertically opposite angle)

40° + x + 30° = 180 (angles on one side of straight line )

x + 70° = 180°
x = 180° -70° =110°

40° + y = 180° (linear pair )

y = 180° - 40° = 140°

x = 110° , y = 140° , z = 40°

marks are awarded for every incorrect answer and 0 for questions which are not attempted.

a) Mohan gets four correct answers and six incorrect answers on his test. What is his total score?
b) Reshma gets five correct answers and similarly five incorrect answers; what is her total score ?
c) Heena gets two correct answers and five incorrect answers out of the seven questions she attempts.
What is her final score? (try yourself)

Ans a) Marks awarded for one correct answer is = 5

Marks awarded for one wrong answer = -2

Marks for 5 correct answer = 4 x 5 = 20

Marks for 6 wrong answer = - 6 x 2 = -12

Total score obtained by Mohan = 20 + (-12) = 8 marks

b) Marks for 5 correct answers = 5 x 5 = 25

Marks for 5 wrong answers = 5 x -2 = -10
Total score obtained by Reshma = 25 + (-10) = 15
