School Project Ideas:

1. ‘Escola Inglesa Newspaper’

Start a school newspaper:

Whether it’s a series of articles or a complete newspaper filled with articles, cartoons, puzzles,
adverts and announcements. One ‘editor’ per class, students could express what they have learnt or
enjoyed in their class this week. This could be a weekly project, that then each student would get a
copy they could take home and collect over time, this would serve as a reminder for what they have
learned throughout the year, and also a reminder of their time at Escola Inglesa, furthermore, giving
them an opportunity to showcase their work to parents and beyond. The newspaper could also be
published in the school’s Facebook page and perhaps a ‘chosen’ page to the local newspaper. The
newspaper could include cross words, funny jokes that students come up with or interactive
activities to complete at home with parents or in class during ‘free time’.

- To take it a step further we could ask for volunteers to be our ‘news agents’ and they read
out the ‘highlight of the week’ like a TV Broadcast– this could be recorded and shown on the
TV in the entrance.
- Could have delegated students to ‘interview’ people around the school (Dra Clara, the
secretaries, the teachers, even other students, maybe even parents!)
- Some extra topics that could be included in the newspaper are: global issues, regional news,
birthday reminders/wishes, star pupil from each class (for the week)

Writing their own newspaper could promote self-confidence, improve writing skills

2. ‘Healthy mind, healthy body’

Build a school garden.

Older children could help with the initial creation of the garden. They could help dig the vegetable
patch and plant the seeds or bulbs. Once the garden has begun to grow, children from all across the
school can visit the garden, taking turns to water it and harvest any produce that grows. A garden is
a great way to create a shared goal throughout the school. This is also a long term project that will
grab children’s interest throughout the whole year.

Gardening should promote healthy eating within your school. Children could be invited to try any
vegetables that they pick from the garden which could create a lifelong interest in gardening. It also
promotes responsibility and commitment to Escola Inglesa overall.

We could do weekly activities about gardening and the importance of healthy eating.

- We could invite parents at the end of each term to the school to see the garden and perhaps
have a ‘meal’ /cook a meal with the students using some ingredients from the garden.

3. Socially strong online

A school project for digital responsibility

The aim of this school project is to sensitize students to various aspects of social media:
Online etiquette: Students should learn how to interact with each other in a respectful and friendly
manner to encourage positive digital communication. You can discuss different situations and
develop recommendations for action.

Data protection and privacy: Young people should understand what information they can share
online and what information should be better protected. It's important to talk about the possible
consequences of thoughtless posting.

Fake news and media literacy: The students should learn to recognize false information and to deal
critically with the content they consume online. Practical exercises for fact-checking and
distinguishing between reputable sources can be carried out here.

Cyberbullying: The issue of cyberbullying needs to be addressed seriously. Students should

understand how to protect themselves from cyberbullying and how to appropriately respond to such
incidents.

Various methods can be used to make the project interesting and interactive , such as discussion
rounds, role plays or guest lectures. For example, students can also create their own information
material and then share the results with their classmates in the form of an information stand or
lecture.

- A school project on social media can provide a valuable opportunity to educate students on
the importance of using digital media responsibly. Young people spend several hours a day
on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. However, young users are often unaware of how
their actions online can affect others or how they themselves are affected by the content of
others.
- Could teach students how to use social media effectively
- Create content for the school’s Facebook page
