CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

Under the guidance of its ethical values and principles, known as the Eight Gabrielian Identities
of our beloved school Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel, it serves to encourage students' moral,
ethical, and behavioral development, acknowledging their ethical values, professional behavior,
and academic success. These identities, which are rooted in the philosophy of education of the
school, encourage leadership, ethical and moral behavior, academic achievement, and active
participation in society. To progress emotionally, personally, and professionally, first-year
students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) must understand and
support these identities. Assessing the extent to which first-year BSBA students are observing and
adapting the Eight Gabrielian Identities into their everyday experiences is the aim of this study.

The researchers aim for this study because the researchers want to know how the first-year
students studying at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel will embody the Eight Gabrielian
Identities and whether this will have an impact on their daily activities inside and outside our
school. How much do first-year BSBA students embrace and demonstrate the Eight Gabrielian
Identities in their academic and social development? This is the main target of the study. The
research will examine the efficiency of teaching methods and suggest ways to improve the
incorporation of these moral identities into both the curriculum and student life by evaluating
students' understanding and observance of these basic concepts. This study will help Colegio de
San Gabriel Arcangel in its continuous endeavors to develop continuously individuals who not
only live academically but also serve as ethical examples that contribute to society.

Background of the Study

Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel supports the Eight Gabrielian Identities as fundamental
values to shape its students' moral personality and professional conduct. The school's educational
philosophy is founded on these principles which involve leadership, society use, moral actions,
and educational performance. Freshman students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration (BSBA) program have to recognize and reflect on these identities since they form
the basis of their future development both professionally and personally.

Additionally, to provide crucial data on how well behavior among the individuals matches
the school goals, the outcomes of this research will be implemented to help Colegio de San Gabriel
Arcangel continue to improve its educational approaches. The findings of this study will be
significant in ensuring that students do not just succeed as professionals but also form ethical
individuals who support the goals of the school.

Determining how well first-year BSBA students follow the Eight Gabrielian Identities is
the primary purpose of the study. The goal is to assess how effectively students are adopting and
exhibiting these values in their social as well as educational development. With this research, we
seek to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the current educational methodologies and offer
suggestions for greater successfully adopting these ethical principles.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to explore how first-year students of the Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration (BSBA) program at the Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel observed the eight
Gabrielian identities. These identities are essential to shaping the personal and academic growth
of students, but we do not know how effectively they are recognized and applied in their lives.

1. How familiar are first-year BSBA students with the eight Gabrielian identities?
2. How familiar are students with how the eight Gabrielian identities affect their school
behavior and attitude?
3. How familiar are students with the integration of these identities into their daily
experiences?

Hypothesis

Theoretical Framework

This research uses a comparative analysis to examine the relationship between leadership
values and ethnic identification among Kazakh and Armenian youth (Berberyan and Gabrielyan,
2019).

The study included a variety of empirical techniques, such as measures of cultural value
orientation, ethnic identity expressiveness, and ethnicity-related emotions.

To find leadership traits, a questionnaire was created. The results showed significant cultural
preferences and self-awareness gaps between Kazakh and Armenian youth. While the Armenian
youth tended toward modern culture, the Kazakh youth demonstrated a predilection for traditional
culture. Perceptions of leadership were impacted by their cultural values, indicating that the
attributes ascribed to leaders mirror those of the students and their social circles.

The formation of identity in young people is a complex process, especially given today's
diverse and often conflicting viewpoints. This struggle shapes society and frequently contributes
to intergroup conflict. To develop effective policies and interventions, it's essential to understand
how young people develop their social identities and how this impacts their behavior, both peaceful
and violent. We categorize ourselves and others into groups, and this profoundly shapes our sense
of self, according to social identity theory. This group identity has both positive and negative
effects, influencing conflict and diversity. While research often focuses on prejudice, group
identity can also build peace and community. This chapter examines how ethnic identity develops
in young people from diverse and conflict-ridden areas, looking at both the good and bad effects. It
uses examples from Northern Ireland and England to show how understanding identity is key to
understanding how young people fit into society, and to making better policies and practices.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

The Gabrielian identity, consisting of punctuality, industriousness, good character,

good listening skills, gratitude, helpfulness, honesty, and humility with integrity, shapes their self-
perception and behavior that healthfulness are essential qualities for great leadership.

Punctuality and Industriousness:

In CDSGA, what you learn defines Gabrielian, and, among the values promoted,
punctuality and industriousness are highly valued. Regarding internalized values, the institution
conducts society in lines of discipline and responsibility; in this, the students are encouraged to
value time management and hard work. This is to the vision of CDSGA of churning out
"disciplined and socially responsible” graduates to practice professionalism in different fields
(cdsga-system, 2020).

Good Character and Honesty:

In its organizational culture statement, CDSGA has entitled one of the main pillars as
character development remembering the goals as honesty and integrity. Some of the aspects of the
school’s culture include developing and supporting students who exhibit the behavior of being
ethically correct leading back to the school's goal of producing excellent leaders. Their guiding
principles of “truth and excellence” support this moral foundation as part of the Gabrielian identity
(cdsga-system, 2020).

Good Listening Skills and Helpfulness:

Good listeners and helpful remain some of the goals integrated in CDSGA’s philosophy
core values. The college encourages collaboration and support within the community therefore
teaching students to become both empathetic and active listeners who can listen and support. This
culture is a part of the CDSGA culture that was developed to foster the production of sound
graduates who will be in a position to influence their societies favorably (cdsga-system, 2020)

Gratitude and Humility with Integrity:

According to CDSGA (2020) two of the considered essential values are humility and
gratitude. The institution’s motto, "One Mind, One Heart, One School," highlights an attitude of

humility, where success is shared collectively. Leaders are expected to show appreciation for their
community’s support and to remain grounded, qualities deemed necessary for a Gabrielian leader.
Integrity is the basis of the Gabrielian values, embodying honesty, moral strength, and ethical
standards.

This commitment to integrity is clear in the current vision of CDSGA of producing

transformational leaders morally responsible academically, and in their vision of producing "Godly
Individuals" to impact the whole world positively.

These values further enhance the culture and education of the students at CDSGA and great
leadership skills which will enable the Gabrielian students to develop into principled leaders.
Therefore, when it comes to observing Gabrielian Identity among the students of the Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration the present paper underlined that leadership identity is an
essential factor for shaping their self-perception and behavior which are essential qualities for great
leadership.

CHAPTER 2

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter explains and presents various methods that were used in gathering data that are
relevant to the research. The methodologies will include the following: research design, research
locale, sampling and sampling technique, research instrument, data gathering procedure, and
statistical treatment of the data.

3.1 Research Design

This study employs a quantitative-descriptive research design to investigate and interpret

participants' interpretations of the phenomenon. Quantitative research design is a formal, objective,
systematic process in which numerical data are used to obtain information about the variables. In
this method, researchers delve into the subjective experiences of individuals, providing a nuanced
understanding of people's experiences. Providing a comprehensive examination of the topic is a
valuable instrument for comprehending student responses and conducting a systematic analysis.
The main objective is to determine individuals' interpretations of their perceptions related to the
study. This was employed to facilitate a deeper comprehension of student cognition and guide
instructional practices.

3.2 Research Locale

The study was conducted at the main campus of Colegio De San Gabriel Arcangel, an
established institution known for its commitment to fostering the Gabrielian identities which has
a diverse population of college graduates and board passers. The school is located in the City of
San Jose Del Monte in the province of Bulacan. This place is selected to examine how Gabrielian
identities influence the studies. This research will comprehensively explore how institutional
values and teachings influence students understanding and observance of the Gabrielian identities.
This study is being implemented on first-year Bachelor of Science and Business Administration
students. The school's exceptional values made it the ideal choice. The main campus of Colegio
De San Gabriel Arcangel is the perfect location for the survey because researchers will be able to
gather a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and opinions from the diverse population of
freshmen students, which is essential for the study.

3.3 Population and Sampling Technique

In this study, Stratified sampling techniques were used. Stratified sampling is a probability
sampling technique where participants are selected by target population elements divided into
distinct groups or strata where within each stratum the elements are similar to each other with
respect to select characteristics of importance to the survey (Van L. Parsons, 2017).
The researchers selected sixty (60) first-year (BSBA) students, a total of twenty-eight
responses were collected from students of 1-1, while thirty-two were collected from students of 1-
2, from the main campus of Colegio De San Gabriel Arcangel for the academic year 2024-2025.
The participants are selected by first dividing the population into homogeneous subgroups or
strata. Then, individuals are randomly selected from each stratum to participate in the study.

3.4 Research Instrument

In this study, the researchers used an online survey questionnaire administered to BSBA
students to collect data on their perceptions and experiences of the Eight Gabrielian Identities
and their influence on their academic pursuits. The questionnaire was developed based on the
study's objectives. The researcher administered the questionnaire to 60 students to assess its
reliability and validity. The questionnaire comprised eight items designed to assess students'
perceptions of the Eight Gabrielian Identities. The respondents utilized a Likert scale survey
questionnaire to indicate their perceived level of agreement with each statement, selecting from
the following 5-point Likert scale options: 1-not at all familiar, 2-slightly familiar, 3-somewhat
familiar, 4-moderately familiar, and 5-extremely familiar.

Table 1: Interpretation of the Five-Point Likert Scale

3.5 Data Gathering Procedure

In this study, to ensure the validity and reliability of the research, the researchers obtained
approval from their professor and conducted a thorough review of the questionnaire before its
distribution. Stratified sampling was employed to select a sample of students from the main
campus of Colegio de San Gabriel Arcángel for a comprehensive investigation into the observance
of aid.

The first step was selecting a school set for conducting research. Second, the researcher
prepared the instruments needed for this study, including designing and administering a survey
questionnaire.
Third, the researcher conducted a pilot study with selected students to evaluate the
psychometric properties of the instruments. The next step was conducting research with the
selected school, the researchers conducted a one-day online survey. In addition, the researchers
collected the answered online survey questionnaire. Lastly, the researchers tallied the results and
interpreted the findings. In addition, the collected data were systematically compiled and reviewed
to ensure their validity and reliability concerning the research objectives.

3.6 Statistical Treatment of The Data

The researcher will employ the following statistical techniques to analyze the data.
The researcher will employ data analysis techniques to interpret the collected data and draw
conclusions about (BSBA) student’s perceptions of the eight Gabrielian identities. In this study,
the researcher used Mean and Weighted mean, Frequency, and Percentage Distribution.

1. Stratified sampling is used to determine the sample size for each stratum in proportion to its
size in the overall population.

RESEARCH DATA ANALYSIS

Data analysis for all of the research questions was conducted through Google Form which
consisted of 6 questions. The data collected was organized using Microsoft Excel. It allowed us to
visualize the patterns in our research through graphs and charts, making our analysis easier and
providing a better result. With the help of Excel, our large datasets have been summarized
efficiently and we can find anomalies that might have gone unnoticed that will confuse us in
interpreting the datasets. This comprehensive approach not only makes our workflow trouble-free
but also enhances our research's accuracy and reliability.

To address Research Questions 1, Research Questions 2, Research Questions 3, Research

Questions 4, Research Questions 5, and Research Questions 6, we used the Likert Scale (Extremely
Familiar, Moderately Familiar, Somewhat Familiar, Slightly Familiar, Not at all Familiar) and we
converted them into numbers from 5-1 that enable us to compute the answered Research Question
and properly organized it. Also, a two-factor analysis was used to analyze for a potential difference
in section (BSBA 1-1 and BSBA 1-2). This analysis produces statistics to determine if there is a
difference in a section of 1st year BSBA on evaluating the impact of Eight Gabrielian Identities
within the community of Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel. Statistical analysis also determines the
impact of Eight Gabrielian Identities for the overall population of 1st-year students of Colegio de
San Gabriel Arcangel taking the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and how they are
observed and enforced within the school community.

Table 3 shows that the average weighted mean was utilized to determine the familiarity of the
BSBA 1st year students of Colegio De San Gabriel Arcangel to the Eight (8) Gabrielian.
Research Question 1, indicates that BSBA students 1-1 and 1-2 have exhibited a moderate
understanding of the eight Gabrielian identities, with BSBA 1-2 being more familiar with them.
It implies a consistent comprehension of the two groups, but the BSBA 1-2 group may have a
slightly better understanding or recognition of what these identities are. Further analysis might
consider the reasons for this slight difference, such as instructional method, availability of
resources, or group composition.

In Research Question 2, students from both sections, BSBA 1-1 and BSBA 1-2 showed a
moderate familiarity with the eight Gabrielian identities as per their average weighted means.
Even though both groups did equally well on their scores, the BSBA 1-2 group scored slightly
better at an average of 4.06 than the latter group's average of 3.82. This could imply that both
comprehended on an average basis, but probably, the former had more acquaintance or
disposition regarding the material dealing with the Gabrielian identities. Understanding these
areas could lead to the possible personalization of educational approaches to improve familiarity
among both groups.

The result of Research Question 3 shows that both groups have nearly the same
understanding and acknowledgment that Gabrielian identities can increase their connectedness
within the school environment. There is a slightly higher average for BSBA 1-2; however,
because both means reflect a moderate level of familiarity, it shows that both groups had more or
less the same level of awareness and acceptance of how those identities help build community
spirit and inclusivity in the school setting.

Meanwhile, in Research Question 4, both conclude that the Gabrielian Identities have good
effects on college life: BSBA 1-1 received a weighted mean of 3.93 while BSBA 1-2, a bit higher
at 4.06, are "Moderately Familiar." In other words, students in both sections believe and
recognize that these identities could create positive effects on their college life. This suggests that
there is a certain degree of common understanding and openness when talking about integrating
these identities into their academic and social lives. It also shows an equally shared perception by
these groups in the applications, typical possibly of a common culture or educational
environment within which the college nurtures this kind of sensibility.

5th Research Question shows that students from BSBA 1-1 and BSBA 1-2 fairly grasp the
concept of being a Gabrielian and how it affects their school interactions.
In the case of BSBA 1 1, students scored an average weighted mean of 3.79, which states that
they do appreciate and somewhat understand the impact of these identities while attending
school, as some words have not yet been fully internalized. In contrast, BSBA 1-2 appeared to
have had slightly more kinds of exposure or reflection in comparison to the former batch since
they scored an average weighted mean of 4.09.

Such minor differences in means indicate only slight variation in the level of awareness of the
two groups probably due to the many factors that determine the learning environment or styles
one would encounter in a classroom. Such observations might probably be important for
educators' future attempts at improving some aspects of the curriculum or activities for a better
appreciation of identity and its implications in social interaction.

Lastly, Research Question 6 shows the comparative analysis of the first-year BSBA students'
awareness regarding the eight identified Gabrielian identities yields interesting insights. BSBA 1-
1 and BSBA 1-2 are found to have a degree of acquaintance within the category of "Moderately
Familiar" as evidenced by their average weighted means which show an average of 3.75 and 4.09
respectively. Even though both BSBA 1-1 and BSBA 1-2 are classified in the same category,
BSBA 1-2 seems to have a slight edge over the former thus suggesting a slightly better
awareness and understanding of these identities and their significance. This subtle difference can
be attributed to such factors as teaching methods, engagement, and exposure outside the
classroom. In general, the data is worthy in that it indicates a commendably high awareness
among these students, so solid foundations can be built for further educational efforts toward a
deeper understanding of Gabrielian identities.

Overall, this indicates that both groups of students, BSBA 1-1 and BSBA 1-2, have a similar
level of familiarity with the material presented, though BSBA 1-2 exhibits a slightly higher
average weighted mean. The ratings suggest that, on average, the students perceive themselves as
moderately familiar with the subject content, which can help guide educators in tailoring their
teaching approaches to enhance understanding and engagement across both sections. By
identifying specific areas where students might require additional support or enrichment,
educators can ensure that all students progress toward a more comprehensive grasp of the
curriculum.

CHAPTER 4
Findings

First-year BSBA students at Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel generally exhibit a moderate
understanding of the Eight Gabrielian Identities, as indicated by the overall weighted averages of
3.79 and 4.02, both categorized as "Moderately Familiar." Students acknowledge that the
Gabrielian Identities positively influence their academic behavior, social interactions, and
attitudes toward school, fostering a sense of inclusivity and ethical conduct.
Although the students recognize the relevance for these values in their everyday experiences,
their ability to fully apply these identities in their academic, social, and professional settings
remains limited.
The results suggested that while students have a solid basic understanding of the Eight
Gabrielian Identities, there is a need for improvements in educational methodologies to make
these values more deeply for their daily lives. This can guide teachers and administrators in
refining their strategies to strengthen the integrations and observance of these identities.
Enhanced the teaching approaches that can better prepare the students not only for academic
success but also for their roles as ethical and accountable students.

Conclusion

Based on this study, it can be inferred that first-year BSBA students in Colegio de San Gabriel
Arcangel (CDSGA) have a moderate understanding and appreciation of the Eight Gabrielian
Identities. All the above-mentioned values which include: Punctual, Industrious, Good character,
Good listener, Grateful/Thankful, Helpful, Honest, and Humble with Integrity do have a positive
impact on the academic pursuits of students as well as their social life and personal development.
Nonetheless, a good number of students understand the importance of these identities, but a good
number of students struggle with embracing these identities and putting them into practice daily.
This points to a gap in educational practices that requires the students to practice and internalize
the stated values in a more effective manner. In this way, students are able to utilize their
leadership skills that are coupled with ethics and excel in scholarship by being busy with practice
related to their academic, social, and career preparation.
Gabrielian Identities are useful to the students of the institution as well as to the institution itself
as they identify the individuals with the institution and create a bond. These values prepare them
and help them become successful in the future as they will be upholding high moral standards

and being responsible anglers in society. But the findings also indicate that there is still a need
for capturing a broader spectrum of students, who will be able to embrace these principles.
In summary, the first-year BSBA students show a moderate understanding of the Eight
Gabrielian Identities, there is a need for increased efforts to improve their familiarity and
practical use. By reinforcing this foundation, we can support the student's personal development
and align with the institution's goal of cultivating ethical and capable leaders.

Recommendations

The following recommendations are proposed based on the conclusions and findings acquired
from the study.
1. For the Students: This study aids the students in further appreciation of the Eight Gabrielian
Identities and their role in the development of moral conduct, aspects of good leadership, and
outstanding academic performance. Students are encouraged to think critically and reflect on
events and situations in their lives and academic work where these core values are called for and
make it a point to practice them. Because the identities are not as well known by all students,
they should make sure to look for other possibilities to enhance their identity development
through school-organized activities or other events aimed at these ideals.
2. For the Teachers: Teachers should be able to create lessons and discussions that include the
Eight Gabrielian Identities. By giving practical and concrete examples of these values, they can
enhance understanding among students on how these values are important in their lives. Some of
these principles can also be offered as Instructions or held in the form of advisory sessions where
teachers mentor the students on how to go about the application of these principles in school and
the rest of their lives.
3. For the School Administration: The school administration could organize programs, for
instance, recognition and awards, aimed at encouraging the students, in their behavior and
interaction, to adopt the Eight Gabrielian Identities. The new students should be given a proper
introduction to these identities to ensure that all students appreciate important aspects of the
school’s culture right from the beginning of their educational period.
4. For Parents: Parents maintain an equally important function in upholding these identities.
There is a need to enhance these parents’ educational campaigns by organizing workshops,
newsletters, or even webinars that introduce these parents to the Eight Gabrielian Identities and
how to assist their children in practicing these identities.
5. For Future Researchers: Future researchers could, for example, broaden the scope of this
present study by more respondents or by embedding contexts that were not attempted in the

application of the Gabrielian Identities. Other research may also seek to assess the extent to
which these values developed during school years influence the student’s academic
achievements, career development, and personal progress at a later stage in life.
