AFP LEADERSHIP
THE PRESIDENT
As Commander-in-Chief, exercises strategic direction of the AFP through the SND,
likewise, exercises command of the AFP through the Chief of Staff.
SECRETARY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE
The civilian adviser of the President on matters concerning defense and security of
the state. Exercises executive supervision over the AFP.
CHIEF OF STAFF, AFP
As the principal military adviser of the President, he commands the AFP and executes the
President’s command functions in military strategy and tactics.

Civilian authority, is at all times supreme over the military. The AFP is the protector of
the People and the State. It’s goal is to secure the Sovereignty of the state and the Integrity of
the national territory. (Article II, Sec 3).
