INTRODUCTION
I am starting a new business of nursery with the brand name “BLOSSOM HAVEN NURSERY”.
The nursery business involves the production and marketing of various plants including trees,
shrubs, grasses, perennial and annual flowers, and fruit trees. A landscaping service, garden
center, or sod farm may also be associated with a nursery enterprise. A successful nursery
operator must be knowledgeable about all phases of plant production and be willing to work,
long, hard days. This will be a small size business where I have planned to invest nearly 60 lakh.
I have planned to start this new journey in a town where a small land cultivated with various
types and size of plants. Our passion for plant goes beyond business; its’s a commitment to
cultivate spaces that breathe life, joy, and tranquility. Our carefully curated selection of vibrant
flora, expert advice and dedication to eco-friendly practices set us apart from others. To begin
business one must have a clear understanding of what kind of plant species to develop. Nursery
plants can also be collected from the backyard, in open plots, in greenhouses.
                               BUSINESS IDEA
Business idea is based on a product or service that can be utilized for financial gain. Such an idea
serves as the base of the pyramid for the business as a whole. It drives everything about the
company, from what products and services are offered to how these products are marketed. This
idea doesn’t need to be unique, but it must have the potential to capture part of its target market.
Before starting my new business my first step is to identify the market demand for plants and
greenery, after studing the demand I came into conclusion that there are people who want a small
garden in their balcony but of low-cost plants and of low-maintenance keeping in mind the
demand I explore unique offering, such as low-maintenance.
PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF IDEA
Preliminary screening is the initial examination of a development’s potential for impact on the
environment, and the potential for public concern. I evaluated costs associated with acquiring
and maintaining a diverse plant inventory and assessed potential profits by researching market
prices and demand. Then I came to the conclusion that it will be profitable to start a nursery
business in small scale keeping in mind that seasonal plants need to be supplied during Particular
seasons
FEASIBILITY STUDY
A feasibility study is an important first step in starting a new business. It is a detailed
examination of whether or not a proposed business venture is likely to be successful or not.
Before starting a business it is important to identify the potential problems, like seasonal
variations or potential pest issues. Access the costs and benefits associated with alternative such
as different suppliers or eco-friendly practices. We need to understand the market situation such
as ---c competition , price etc. My objective is to---- (a) Maintain an average gross margin at or
above 50%, (b) Generate an average of $1,000 of sales each business day of each month. (c)
Realize an annual growth rate 10% in Year 2.
SELECTION OF APPROPRIATE IDEA
Based on the outcomes of the preliminary screening and feasibility study, the most viable and
innovative ideas are selected. This involves a careful analysis of data gatheres, considering
factors like market tends, potential risks, and the alignment of the concept with consumer
preferences. The chosen idea should not only promise profitability but also resonate with the
target audience.
                              BUSINESS PLAN
A business Plan is a document demonstrating the feasibility of a prospective new business and
providing a roadmap for its first several years of operation. Business Plans are an important part
of creating new businesses, whether as a startup or an offshoot of an existing business.
My Idea about this business is to make it unique. I will emphasize eco-friendly practices such as
using recycled materials for pots and promoting water conservation. My target consumer will be
busy urban dwellers who desire greenery but have limited time for upkeep. To start my business.
HOW TO WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN
(a) Brief Summary- Various Nursery is dedicated to providing a quality choice for people
looking for plant and garden suppliers as well s serving contractors who need a reliable
source of products. The rent of the land is Rs. 5000 per month. We will offer a wide variety
of plants, trees, vegetables plants along with a selection of garden supplies. With a
convenient location nursery plants intends to successfully market to the residential customer
as well as contractors and renters. We would like to see a five to ten percent increase in our
customer base each year. Our marketing strategy includes providing a knowledgable staff,
affordable prices a great location and perfect customer service.
(b) Target Market- My target customers are the landscapers or retail plant sellers who will buy
wholesale from me, home gardeners who refer to do most of the work themselves or
homework who don’t have time but want a well maintained attractive landscape.
(c) Suppliers- To make a nursery business successful we need many kinds of raw material
which are supplied from various sources such as companies like Burpee, Johnny’s Selected
Seeds supply me seeds. Companies like Proven Winners or ULINE supply me pots and
containers. Growers Supply, Rimol Greenhouse Systems, or local manufacturers.
(d) Why Do I Need Staff? – Yes, I do need staffs for my nursery business. I need both workers
as well as professionals for plants as they grow. A plant nursery professional has extensive
knowledge of plants and their needs and helps them flourish so the nursery can sell them.
The professionals should have the horticulture degree in nursery management.
(e) A Brief Marketing Plan- Whether we are starting up with little money to spare or are an
established centre looking to serve more customers, setting a marketing plan is very
important and is actually accessible to all garden centres and nurseries of all scales, Typically
a business will dedicate 6-8 % of their total budget towards marketing and outreach, though
we understand that dedicating this amount of money may not be feasible as for about 5 years
I will gain nearly no return. It is to be noted that larger nurseries will tend to have even
greater spending on marketing , not because they can better affort it, but because they have
seen its impact on growing their business. However for the first year I will be investing only
Rs. 20,000 in for my marketing and had a plan to increase the value of investment each year.
(f) Competitors- Few top competitors of a nursery Business are Ugaoo (Pune) , Seedlings
   India(Delhi) , Trupha (Noida) , Nursery Nisarga (Bhopal) , Greenkin(Mumbai) , Palasa
   (Bengaluru) , Ecofynd (Aligarh) , Plant’4u (Delhi) , Ginkgos (Rewari) , Treekart(Hyderabad)
. All these are leading companies of India and I really want the name of my company within
these list for which I think them as me competitors even though they are not aware about my
   company’s name.
(g) My Business Operation- To start a plant nursery includes the extraction of seeds without
being destroyed from a fully grown fruit for harvesting. Then using those extracted seeds for
plantation and the seeds for plantation and the seeds should then be planted in seed beds or
germination trays for their growth. Then they need to be taken care of by my professionals
given water on time. And when he plants are grown out to salable size it will be sold to
wholesalers, retailers or direct to the consumer for personal use. A proper nursery operation
includes preparation of nursery bed, soil management, planting procedures, control of
seedling density, use of fertilizers, irrigation, and pest control. Sometimes they also may
include root pruning and inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi.
                    IMPLEMENTATION OF IDEA
(a) Product Description- Certainly! One interesting and potentially profitable type of
product for nursery business could be “Sustainable Garden kits”. These kits could
include a curated selection of eco friendly, native plants that promote biodiversity and
   support local ecosystems.
The packaging could incorporate Biodegradable materials, Themed Plant Collections,
Personalized Plant Kits, Biodegradable Pots, Creative Plant Tags with detailed
instructions on sustainable gardening practices and I will use the tagline “GROW
GREEN, LIVE SUSTAINABLE: PLANTING TOMMORROW’S BEAUTY
   TODAY”
