OBJECTIVE:
● Study of fluid power and operation of different types of pumps.
●Study of working principle of various components used in hydraulic and pneumatic

● To make the PLC ladder programs based on industrial applications
Unit–I FLUID POWER PRINICIPLES AND HYDRAULIC PUMPS 09
Introduction to Fluid power – Advantages and Applications - Fluid power systems – Types of
fluids and selection, Basics of Hydraulics – Pascal’s Law – Principles of flow - Friction loss
– Work, Power and Torque Problems. Sources of Hydraulic power : Pumping Theory, Pump
Classification. Construction, Working, Design, Advantages, Disadvantages, Performance,
Selection criteria of Linear and Rotary Pumps, Fixed and Variable displacement pumps.
pump related Problems.

Unit–II HYDRAULIC ACTUATORS AND CONTROL COMPONENTS 09

Hydraulic Actuators: Cylinders Types and construction, Application, Hydraulic cushioning –


Hydraulic motors – Control Components: Direction Control, Flow control and pressure
control valves – Types, Construction and Operation – Servo and Proportional valves –
Applications–Accessories: Reservoirs, Pressure Switches–Applications–Fluid Power ANSI

Unit–III HYDRAULIC CIRCUITS AND SYSTEM 09

Accumulators, Intensifiers, Industrial hydraulic circuits – Regenerative, Pump Unloading,


Double- Pump, Pressure Intensifier, Air-overoil, Sequence, Reciprocation, Synchronization,
Fail-Safe, Speed Control, Hydrostatic transmission, Electro hydraulic circuits, Mechanical
hydraulic servo systems.

Unit–IV PNEUMATIC AND ELECTRO PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS 09

Properties of air – Perfect Gas Laws – Compressor –Filters, Regulator, Lubricator, Muffler,
Air control Valves, Quick Exhaust Valves, Pneumatic actuators, Design of Pneumatic
circuit–Cascade method–Electro Pneumatic System–Elements–Ladder diagram–Problems,
Introduction to fluidics and pneumatic logic circuits.

Unit–V PLC LADDER PROGRAMMING 09

1. Actuation of single acting cylinder with on delay timer using plc/actuation of single
acting cylinder with off delay timer using plc/operation of single cycle automation of
multiple cylinders in sequence (a+b+a-b-).
2. Operation of single cycle automation of multiple cylinders in sequence (a+b+b-a-)
/actuation of hydraulic cylinder and to find out pressure vs force/actuation of hydraulic
cylinder and to find out speed vs discharge.
3. Controlling the speed of the cylinder using metering in valve /controlling the speed of
the cylinder using metering out valve /operation of double acting cylinder with and
logic circuit.

COURSE OUTCOMES:
● Understand the Fluid power and operation of different types of pumps.
● Analyse the features and functions of Hydraulic motors, actuators and Flow control
valves
● Analyse the different types of Hydraulic circuits and systems.
● Understand the working of different pneumatic circuits and systems
● Apply the various trouble shooting methods in PLC ladder program and applications
of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
