Problem Solving Aproaches
Here are some general steps for problem solving:
1. Define the problem: Identify what the problem is, what standard or expectation is being
violated, and what the underlying causes are.
2. Generate alternative solutions: Brainstorm ideas with others, and consider both short-
term and long-term solutions.
3. Evaluate and select a solution: Evaluate all alternatives without bias, and choose the
best one.
4. Implement and follow up: Put the solution into action, and gather feedback from those
affected.
001-Brain Storming
Brainstorming is a group problem-solving technique that involves generating ideas and
solutions through discussion. It can be used to solve a variety of problems, such as
what to have for dinner, where to go on vacation, or how to identify the source of a theft
>Set an objective >Set a time limit:> Encourage participation >Don't criticize:>
Record ideas:> Discuss and narrow down:
002 – Five Why
Car parking example/ late for meeting
a WHY… Because late for office c why I am get up late morning…because
alarm not worked.
b why I am late .. because I got up late
morning
D why alarm not worked because battery E why battery dead because I didn’t checked
may be dead or charged or replaced
003.Fish bone Diagram
A Fishbone Diagram helps us find and understand all the possible reasons why a problem is happening.
Health example khansi bukhar there are bmany reason
004.Three Stages Process
The three components are: Identify the Problem, Generate Solutions,/ Analyze possible
solutions and Implement the Solution.
005. Seven Stages Process
1. Identify the Problem
In this case we have to clearly understand what the problem is.
2. Gather Information
Look for more information by asking questions, looking things up, or discussing with
friends.
3. Generate Ideas
brainstorm some ideas for our project.
Write down all ideas, even the wild ones, without judging.
4. Evaluate the Options
We discuss the pros and cons of each idea. Which one is the most creative but also the
easiest to complete in time?
Help them: Think about the time, materials, and skills needed.
5. Choose the Best Solution
Reminder: Pick the idea that seems the most reasonable and practical.
we can get all the materials easily
6. Implement the Solution
Its time to take an action
We gather our materials, work on the project together, and make the poster.
7. Review and Reflect
Once we finish, we review the project and think about what went well and what we could
do better next time.
006- Steps in Root Cause Analysis
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a way to find out why a problem happened so we can fix it
for good and stop it from happening again.
- Steps in Root Cause Analysis
1. Define the Problem:
o Clearly describe what is going wrong, where, and how often.
2. Collect Data:
Identify when and where the problem occurred and its impact.
3. Identify Possible Causes:
o Brainstorm all potential causes of the issue..
4. Determine the Root Cause:
o Apply techniques like :
5 Whys.
Fishbone Diagram (Ishikawa
5. Develop a Solution:
o Once the root cause is identified, brainstorm possible solutions that address the
core problem.
o Consider the feasibility and potential impact of each solution.
6. Implement the Solution:
o Create an action plan for implementing the chosen solution.
7. Verify the Effectiveness:
o Evaluate the outcome of the solution to ensure the problem is resolved.
Common RCA Techniques
5 Whys Analysis: A simple approach where you keep asking “Why?” until you reach the
fundamental reason.
Fishbone Diagram: Categorizes potential causes and helps in visualizing the problem's
complexity.
007- Mind Mapping
Food restaurant delivery not good for good sales
There are four components when we think about Mind mapping
A . People involved C. material
B . Process D. Machine or equipment
