An axial valve less engine:

Abstract :-
The project aims to design an axial engine with no
valves. The aim is to reduce the weight of the
engine and also to make it compact. To achieve
this the conventional head component of the
traditional engine basically containing valve set,
springs and cams is eliminated. The axial
configuration is to make the engine design
compact. The engine consists of inlet and exhaust
port as of in rotary engine rather than valves of
traditional engines. This eliminate errors arising
due to improper opening or closing of valve. The
reduced components of the head reduces the
weight of the engine drastically.
- Unlike conventional engines that rely on valves
and a piston-driven reciprocating motion to
control the flow of air and fuel, this axial engine
employs a fundamentally different approach.
Instead of valves, it utilizes a unique axial
configuration of rotating discs and chambers to
achieve the intake, compression, combustion, and
exhaust processes.
- It uses the idea of the rotary engines valve system.
For an example as in wankel engine which uses
ports for intake and exhaust process.
-
- The axial engine with no valves represents a
remarkable advancement in internal combustion
technology, offering the promise of improved
efficiency, reduced maintenance requirements,
and environmentally friendly operation. While still
in the experimental and developmental stages,
this innovative engine design holds the potential
to revolutionize various industries by addressing
many of the limitations associated with traditional
engines
1. Rotating Cylinder:- The central shaft of the engine drives
the rotating cylindrical body, which contains the pistons. As
the cylindrical body rotates, it creates a circular motion for
the pistons within the cylinders.
2. Inlet and Exhaust Ports:- Stationary inlet and exhaust
ports are strategically positioned around the central shaft.
These ports do not move; instead, they are fixed in place.
3. Spark Plug:- Similarly, the spark plug remains stationary
and is located within each cylinder. It ignites the air-fuel
mixture when the piston reaches the top of its stroke.
4. Valve Timing Equivalent:- While there are no traditional
valves, the timing of this engine is controlled by the
alignment of the rotating cylinder with the stationary ports.
For intake, as a cylinder approaches the inlet port, it exposes
the port, allowing air and fuel to flow in. As it continues to
rotate, it covers the inlet port, sealing it. The same principle
applies to the exhaust port, where the cylinder aligns to
expel exhaust gases.
5. Spark Timing:- Timing for ignition is controlled
electronically, ensuring that the spark plug fires at the right
moment in the engine's rotation.
6. Optimization:- Advanced control systems and sensors
monitor various engine parameters like load, RPM, and
temperature. This data is used to dynamically adjust the
timing for optimal efficiency and performance. This design
eliminates the need for traditional valve timing but requires
precise engineering and control systems to ensure proper
alignment and combustion within the cylinders. It's a unique
approach to internal combustion engines that can offer
advantages in terms of efficiency and simplicity.
