INTRODUCTION

It can be said that in recent years, along with market economic trends,
Vietnam's economy has developed strongly, helping Vietnam's position be
enhanced in the international arena. The tourism industry has become one of the
official service economic sectors that has contributed to the country's economic
growth. In particular, the appearance of many domestic and international travel
companies brings good signs to this young economic industry. In particular, every
year our country attracts millions of international visitors to Vietnam, creating a
huge source of foreign exchange revenue.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the cities that attracts prominent tourists. Not only
economic development, tourism in Ho Chi Minh City is increasingly asserting its
position and attracting a large number of visitors. This region is memorable in the
hearts of all visitors because of the harmony of natural landscape, urban
architecture and many cultural works.
In this report, our team would like to clarify some of the following points of Ho
Chi Minh City: an overview, tourist attractions, tourist attractions,and types of
tourism of this city.
During the time of making the report, due to limited time and experience, the
report still has certain limitations, so I look forward to receiving comments from
the teachers and all of you on my report to be more complete.
PART 1: AN OVERVIEW OF THE TOURISM POTENTIAL OF HO CHI
MINH CITY

1.1. Geographical location and accessibility

- Ho Chi Minh City is in the Southeast region of the country, about 1,730km
by road from Hanoi city center.
- As an economic - cultural - and educational center, Ho Chi Minh City is
constantly developing, making strong breakthroughs and becoming one of
the largest metropolises in the country.
- Administratively, Ho Chi Minh City is divided into 22 districts, including 1
city, 16 districts, and 5 districts: Thu Duc City, District 1, District 3, District
4, District 5, District 6, District 7, District 8, District 10, District 11, District
12, Binh Thanh District, Binh Tan District, Go Vap District, Phu Nhuan
District, Tan Binh District, Tan Phu District, Binh Chanh District, Can Gio
District, Cu Chi District, Hoc Mon District and Nha Be District.
- The north borders Binh Duong Province, the west borders Tay Ninh
Province and Long An Province, the east borders Dong Nai Province and Ba
Ria - Vung Tau, the south borders the East Sea and Tien Giang province.
- This city features an international airport, Tan Son Nhat airport - the largest
international airport in the country.

1.2. Tourism resources of the region

1.2.1. Natural tourism resources


- Ho Chi Minh City has a tropical monsoon and equatorial climate, with a rich
humid subtropical environment, abundant sunshine, and long radiation time.
- There are two main seasons in the region: the rainy season from May to
November and the dry season for the remaining months.
- Located in the area between the Southeast and the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi
Minh City has a low plain terrain with a relatively flat surface and is divided
by a dense network of rivers and canals. The terrain tends to gradually lower
from northwest to southeast, but the slope is small.
- Ho Chi Minh City has a gateway to the sea, the center of Ho Chi Minh City
is located about 50 km from the East Coast as the crow flies.
- The city's vegetation includes three typical forest ecosystems: humid
tropical forests, alum forests and mangrove forests such as Can Gio
mangrove forest.

- Within the region, there are also many famous destinations such as Ben
Thanh Market, Independence Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Vietnam
History Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels, Dam Sen Water Park, Nguyen Hue
Walking Street, etc.

- The climate and terrain conditions of Ho Chi Minh City are completely
suitable for outdoor tourism activities, especially eco-tourism, culinary
tourism, shopping, city sightseeing tourism, and waterway travel.
1.2.2. Cultural tourism resources
While the Kinh ethnicity makes up the majority of Vietnam's population, Ho Chi
Minh City, being a large and cosmopolitan city, has a significant population of
minority ethnicities. The diversity of ethnicity brings diverse cultural and artistic
values, many customs and practices with distinctive characteristics.
=> With the cultural resource characteristics mentioned, specific cultural tourism
resources of the region can be divided into categories such as historical-cultural
relics, typical architectural works, entertainment areas, and festivals.
- Historical and cultural sites
Ho Chi Minh City boasts a fascinating blend of history and culture. Explore the
former residence of the South Vietnamese President at the Reunification Palace, or
delve into the complexities of the Vietnam War at the War Remnants Museum.
Architectural gems like the French-built Notre Dame Cathedral and Central Post
Office stand alongside serene Buddhist pagodas like Giac Lam and the vibrant
Mariamman Hindu Temple. Catch a performance at the opulent Saigon Opera
House or experience a traditional water puppet show at the Golden Dragon
Theater. Don't miss the bustling Ben Thanh Market for a taste of local life and
unique souvenirs. This is just a glimpse into the many historical and cultural
treasures waiting to be discovered in Ho Chi Minh City.

=> These relics are often visited by tourists when visiting Ho Chi Minh City, and
many iconic architectural works are also must-visit destinations for tourists.
- Iconic Architectural Works
Among the must-visit destinations in Ho Chi Minh City are iconic architectural
works such as Ben Thanh Market, the Post Office Building, City Theater, Bitexco
Tower, Landmark 81 and the Thu Thiem Tunnel.

- Amusement Park
One notable and unique feature of Ho Chi Minh City compared to other cities in
the region is the abundance of entertainment areas such as Dam Sen Cultural Park,
Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Area, Thao Cam Vien Zoo, and Lac Canh Dai Nam
Van Hien tourism area.
=> These entertainment areas offer a variety of activities and attractions that cater
to tourists' interests and are popular among visitors.
- Festivals
The vibrant city of Ho Chi Minh City hosts a variety of festivals throughout the
year, showcasing its rich cultural heritage. The most notable celebration is Tết
Nguyên Đán, the Lunar New Year, featuring week-long festivities such as family
gatherings, flower markets, and lion dances. Additionally, the Mid-Autumn
Festival is celebrated with colorful lanterns and mooncakes. Visitors in September
can enjoy the Southern Fruit Festival, highlighting the region's produce. Various
other celebrations, including the city's liberation anniversary and temple festivals,
cater to its diverse religious communities. Overall, visitors are likely to experience
a festive atmosphere in this dynamic city.

1.3. Tourism infrastructure and facilities

1.3.1. Transportation system


- Ho Chi Minh Cityhas a well-developed transportation network, including
road, railway, waterway, and air transportation.
+ Buses: The public bus system in Ho Chi Minh City is operated by the
Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Authority (HCMCPT). The
network consists of over 100 routes that cover all parts of the city.
Buses are a cheap and convenient way to get around, and fares are
typically only a few thousand dong. Tickets can be purchased from
bus drivers or at bus stops.
+ Taxis: Taxis are another popular mode of transportation in Ho Chi
Minh City. There are many different taxi companies operating in the
city, and fares are typically based on a meter system. It is always a
good idea to agree on a price with the driver before you get in the
taxi.
+ Motorbikes: Motorbikes are the most common mode of transportation
in Ho Chi Minh City. There are millions of motorbikes on the streets,
and they can be a very fast and efficient way to get around. If you are
not comfortable riding a motorbike, you can always hire a motorbike
taxi driver.
+ Airport: Ho Chi Minh City is served by Tan Son Nhat International
Airport (SGN). The airport is located about 7 kilometers from the city
center, and there are a number of ways to get to and from the airport.
Taxis, buses, and motorbike taxis are all readily available.
1.3.2. Technical infrastructure of tourism
The technical infrastructure of tourism in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,
encompasses a variety of components aimed at facilitating the travel experience
for tourists and supporting the tourism industry as a whole:
- Transportation: Ho Chi Minh City has a well-developed transportation
network to cater to the needs of tourists. This includes Tan Son Nhat
International Airport, which is the busiest airport in Vietnam and serves as a
major gateway for international tourists. The city also has a network of
roads, including highways and arterial roads, as well as public transportation
options such as buses, taxis, and ride-sharing services.
- Accommodation: The city offers a wide range of accommodation options to
suit different budgets and preferences, including luxury hotels, boutique
hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. Many of these establishments are equipped
with modern amenities and facilities to ensure a comfortable stay for
tourists.
- Tourist Attractions: Ho Chi Minh City boasts a wealth of tourist attractions,
including historical sites, cultural landmarks, and recreational destinations.
Some of the most popular attractions include the Reunification Palace, Notre
Dame Cathedral, War Remnants Museum, Ben Thanh Market, and Bitexco
Financial Tower.
1.4. Human resources

1.4.1. Strengths
- Growing Workforce: Ho Chi Minh City has a large population. This
translates to a readily available pool of potential tourism workers.
- Training Institutions: Numerous universities and colleges offer tourism and
hospitality management programs, providing a steady stream of graduates
with some level of training.
- Government Initiatives: The Vietnamese government recognizes the
importance of tourism and has implemented policies to encourage HR
development in this sector.
1.4.2. Weaknesses
- Skill Gap: While there are graduates, many lack the specific skills needed
for the tourism industry. Areas like foreign languages, customer service,
digital marketing, and specialized knowledge of local attractions are often
lacking.
- High Turnover: The tourism industry can be demanding, with long hours
and seasonal fluctuations. This can lead to high employee turnover,
impacting service quality and training efforts.
- Wage Disparity: Compensation in tourism can be lower compared to other
sectors, making it difficult to attract and retain qualified personnel,
especially for specialized roles.
PART 2. TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF THE PROVINCE

2.1. Values of tourist attractions

Ho Chi Minh City is a bustling metropolis in southern Vietnam renowned for its
rich history and vibrant culture. At the heart of the city's tourist attractions lies the
Independence Palace, symbolizing the country's struggle for independence and
reunification. Nearby stands the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, a striking
example of French colonial architecture. For nightlife enthusiasts, Bui Vien
Walking Street offers a lively array of bars, restaurants, and shops. Just outside the
city, the Cu Chi Tunnels provide a poignant glimpse into Vietnam's wartime past,
showcasing an intricate network used by Viet Cong soldiers. Lastly, Ben Thanh
Market epitomizes Ho Chi Minh City's bustling energy, where visitors can shop
for local goods in authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Together, these iconic
destinations reflect Ho Chi Minh City's blend of historical significance and modern
allure.

a) Independence Palace

Independence Palace is a historic landmark symbolizing Vietnam's struggle for


independence and reunification.

b) Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon

The Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon is a striking example of French colonial


architecture, known for its red brick facade and twin bell towers.

- Cultural significance: The Notre Dame Cathedral is a captivating blend of
East and West. Its design, merging European Romanesque and Gothic styles
with French bricks and stained glass, reflects Vietnam's cultural exchange
with the West. Furthermore, as a central church, it serves the Christian
community and highlights the significance of faith in Vietnamese culture.

c) Bui Vien Walking Street

Bui Vien Walking Street is a vibrant hub known for its bustling nightlife, lined
with bars, restaurants, and shops catering to both locals and tourists alike.

gather to experience the city's dynamic street life, sample local cuisine, and
immerse themselves in the arts and entertainment scene.

d) Cu Chi Tunnels

The Cu Chi Tunnels are a vast underground network used by Viet Cong troops
during the Vietnam War, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the ingenuity
and resilience of those who lived and fought underground during times of war.

for both tourists and locals alike.

- Cultural significance: Beyond its economic significance, Ben Thanh Market
is deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of Ho Chi Minh City. It serves as a

and community cohesion. The market's architecture, with its distinctive
clock tower and yellow facade, is an iconic landmark that symbolizes the
city's past and present.

2.2. Exploitation of tourist attractions

Exploitation in the context of tourist destinations typically refers to negative


practices such as overcommercialization, overcrowding, environmental
degradation, and cultural insensitivity. Here are some potential exploits or issues
that can affect tourist destinations in Ho Chi Minh City:
- Overcommercialization: Some attractions, like Ben Thanh Market, may face
issues of overcommercialization where the focus shifts from authentic local
experiences to mass-produced souvenirs and goods aimed solely at tourists.
- Crowding: Popular attractions such as the War Remnants Museum and Cu
Chi Tunnels can become overcrowded during peak tourist seasons, leading
to diminished visitor experiences and strain on infrastructure.
- Environmental Impact: Increased tourism can contribute to environmental
degradation, especially in natural areas like the Mekong Delta if not
managed sustainably. Activities like boat tours and waste disposal can
impact local ecosystems.
- Cultural Sensitivity: There may be instances where tourists and tour
operators do not respect local customs, traditions, or sacred sites, leading to

- Flight (1 hour): Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways
- Ferry: While Con Dao island can be reached by air, taking a ferry from Ho
Chi Minh to Con Dao is an exciting and unique way to travel, providing
visitors with a chance to see more of Vietnam's stunning coastline and enjoy
the laid-back vibe before they even arrive.

4.2.1. Destination

- Thich Ca Phat Đai Pagoda: This is a hillside park of monumental Buddhist

- Lighthouse: The 360 degree view of the entire hammer-head-shape


peninsula from the lighthouse is truly spectacular, especially at sunset.

- Giant Jesus: This 32m-high giant Jesus statue was constructed in 1974. The
statue can be reached on foot by a path that heads up the hill to enjoy
gorgeous views of this beautiful beach city.

- White Villa: The Villa Blanche is a former royal residence set on a lushly
forested hillside overlooking the sea. It was built in 1909 as a retreat for
French governor Paul Doumer.

- Enjoy a delicious breakfast of Banh Canh Gio Bien at a local eatery near the

- Take a Xe Om (motorbike taxi) to Vung Tau Front Beach (around 50,000
VND).
- Spend the morning swimming, sunbathing, or relaxing on the beach. You
can also rent a beach chair and umbrella for around 50,000 VND per day.
Lunch (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM):
- Head to Quan Anh Dung, a local eatery close to the beach, for a delicious

- Take a Xe Om to The Vung Tau Lighthouse (around 30,000 VND).

4.3.1. Destination

a) Cu Chi Tunnels

- Cu Chi Tunnel is an underground defense system in Cu Chi district, 70 km
northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. This system was developed by the National Front
for the Liberation of South Vietnam during the Indochina War and Vietnam War.
The tunnel system includes an infirmary, many rooms, a kitchen, a storage room, a
working room, and an underground tunnel system. It is about 200 km long and has
ventilation systems at bush locations. The tunnel was built on land known as "steel
land", located at the end of the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
- During the 1968 Tet Offensive, the National Front for the Liberation of South
Vietnam used this tunnel system to attack Saigon. When visiting the Cu Chi
tunnels, you will learn how ancient Vietnamese guerrillas built, lived and fought in
the tunnels, and will watch valuable documentaries about the war and how the
people and soldiers fought in the tunnels. Vietnam has won with modern and
advanced weapons only with national will.

b) Cao Dai Temple

- Located in Tay Ninh Province, Cao Dai is a unique religion in Southern Vietnam
that takes ideas from Confucianism, Islam, Confucianism, Catholicism and
ancestor worship. The temple is decorated with many colors and many beautiful
statues.
- The temple's exterior features vibrant colors, intricate carvings, and a large eye
motif representing divine presence. Inside, a spacious hall features colorful murals
and statues of various deities, saints, and historical figures.
- The temple is a hub of religious activity, hosting elaborate ceremonies twice
daily.

4.3.2. Tour program

Duration: Full day


Highlights:
- This full-day tour combines a glimpse into Vietnam's wartime past with a
visit to a unique religious site, offering a fascinating exploration of
Vietnamese culture.
- Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn about the Viet Cong's extensive

CONCLUSION

After learning about Ho Chi Minh City, we found that this is a city with great
tourism potential. There needs to be cooperation between the government and local
people to promote tourism in this region to develop more to create a source of
income for the country as well as promote the country's image internationally.
Overall, this report is a synthesis of basic information about Ho Chi Minh City,
tourism potential as well as the group's tourism program in this city. This report
has helped us understand more about tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and helped us
gain more experience in the journey of building tours in this city.
