A. Grade Level The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/ her
Standard understanding of British-American Literature, including Philippine
Literature and other texts types for a deeper appreciation of Philippine
Culture and those of other countries.

Types of Themes
- Friendship (Friendship is based on spontaneous “affection,” a human
feeling of connection that occurs when two appropriately matched
individuals encounter one another) Example: Ronald Weasley, Harry
Potter, and Hermione Granger From the Harry Potter series by J. K.
Rowling
- Love (Love, as one of the most intense of human emotions, also features
as a core theme in not only literature, but also music, film, and theater)
Example: “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen: This classic novel
examines the complexities of love, misunderstandings, and the
consequences of prejudice.
- Courage (Courage is strength in the face of physical pain, hardship or
death) Example: Beowulf commits several acts of incredible bravery
- Coming of age (A coming of age story, also called a Bildungsroman, is
all about the protagonist’s journey from being a child to being an adult.)
Example: To Kill a Mockingbird also can be read as a coming-of-age
story featuring a young girl growing up in the South and experiencing
moral awakenings.
- Girl power (The idea that women and girls should be confident, make
decisions, and achieve things independently of men, or the social and
political movement that is based on this idea.) Example: The Colour
Purple implies that when women are oppressed, other oppressed women
will stand up for them. The novel displays how once fellow women
empower women, they believe they have power themselves.

a comic strip showing their chosen theme.
