CHAPTER 1
The Problem and its Background

BACKGROUND OF STUDY
Finances are something that everyone dreads and often avoids talking about. Financial

problems can be extremely stressful, yet we never bring them up in conversation. But why? If a

financial problem is crucial to someone’s wellbeing, why is it that we all avoid talking about it? When

we say financial problems, everyone can relate, right? Parents, teenagers, everyone, even the senior

high school students We, the researchers, want to know what the factors are affecting the financial

instability of grade 11 students at Bocboc East National High School.

Globally, being financially stable became a serious matter when it comes to productivity in

Southeast Asian Countries ( Curan, 2014) In daily survival where such circumtances occurs, the

people tend to to stop study and just work for daily living.They don’t matters about degree anymore,

as long as to overcome poverty (Salma 2016). Financial cognitive wellness has recently become a

cultivating issue of interest among researchers.

In the Philippines, a scientific study conducted by Gullas (2014), revealed recent studies

about K-12 program implementation, that considered as hardship in some of the filipinos in terms of

financial concerns as determined as burden for another two more years of compensation.
Financial is a very big problem in our lives, especially when it comes to education.

There’s a lot of money needed. Money is very important because you can buy anything you need if

you have money, like school supplies, payments, and other expenses in school.Even if you are a

scholar, you still need money for some projects and payments. If you don’t have money, you can’t buy

anything. That is the biggest problem in every school.

The researchers conducted this study very applicable for the present situation because we

all know that some students at Bocboc East High School are experiencing poverty. In the absence of

financial support, every student experiences poverty, and they are needed to sacrifice to stop studies,

get a source of income, and work for the family.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study will attempt to determine on what are the factors affecting of financial instability of 11

students in Bocboc East National High School S.Y 2023 – 2024.

This study will bring awareness and lift up the financial intelligence and wise decision making in

managing the student’s finances.


Specifically, this study sought to find answer to the following questions:

1).What are the profile of the repondents in terms of:


A. Age

B. Gender

C. Section

D. Economic Status

2).What are the factors of financial instability?

3).How it does affects on the students?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Respondents: The result of the study may benefit the students enlightening their minds regarding

the factors affecting financial instability.

Parents: The findings of this study may serve as guide that to help them know and be aware to the

factors of financial instability that affects on their children’s.

Teachers: The result of this study may serve as baseline data in discussing topics related to the

present study.

Researchers: This study may useful in gaining more knowledge of the factors of financial instability

that affects on the students.


DEFINITION OF TERMS

Financial Problem – is a situation in which you are not able to meet your bills on time or

afford necessary basic needs.

Instability – Is the quality of not being stable, balanced or predictable.

Expense – The amount of money that is needed to pay for or buy something.

Money – Something ( such as coins or bills ) used as a way to pay for goods and services and to

pay people for work.

Students – One who studies / an attentive and systematic observer / one who attends a school.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

This study limited to finding out the factors affecting the financial instability of grade 11

students. Hence ,it is further limited to the grade 11 students at Bocboc East National High School as

the respondents of study who is particularly related to financial instability.
